The concept of a 'surname' is a relatively recent historical development, evolving from a medieval naming practice called a 'byname'. Based on an individual's occupation or area of residence, a byname would be used in situations where more than one person had the same name.

*Like when the food hella good, you say bone apple tea, it's like french or some shit.* A Bone Apple Tea is the mistaken use of a **real, dictionary-defined word or phrase** in place of another **real, dictionary-defined word or phrase** that sounds similar, resulting in a nonsensical, sometimes humorous utterance.

Shelret Doren (The Diamond Trance)

This is the story of Doren Shiniden, who, to any outside observer, died pointlessly in a most glorious fashion.
The life of a Dwarf is not easy, nor is it particularly enjoyable. The alcohol helps a bit, but often you are born, you toil, and you die. most Dwarves can only look forward to a few years of backbreaking labor, a horrible (or embarrassing) Death.
Or both, when you dump *yourself* into the volcano with the trash.
And maybe if you make some noise from the grave, you'll get a plain rock slab with your name on it in some corner of the fort. just so you don't cause problems, not because anyone cares.

But sometimes your death is beautiful.
This is Doren Shiniden. She wandered into the fort on a migrant wave as a peasant and was tossed thoughtlessly into the military, handed a silver hammer and a bismuth bronze shield, clad in so much iron she could barely move, and beaten by her squadmates repeatedly for the bare minimum required to make Recruit.
There was a necromancer's tower a short trip north from Riftgalley named Tomeblue, and the necros were bloody cowards, fleeing the moment they sensed danger, showing up only to animate the garbage bins and send a few more undead into the bladehalls. Doren was up a stepladder picking fruit when the message came: "the Dead walk, Flee while you can!"
2 human Hammermen, a spearman, and a crossbowman, led by a human maceman sallow one we'll call Sauron, for he was as arrogant and powerful as the name implies. The Giant Olm Man Necromancer fled nearly instantly, as Doren was far too close to their arrival point and aggroed immediately, ignoring orders to retreat.

https://preview.redd.it/z2wtnle5edxc1.png?width=648&format=png&auto=webp&s=568bef27c50d8f4dafb65060869158f3c1aa0f90
A curious thing happens to a Dwarf that finds themselves outmatched or outnumbered, they stop caring about the odds, or about their lives. they set their stance and go to work on the problem.
Shelret, they call it. the Martial Trance. Doren experienced it then for the first time.
She was, however, plainly outmatched and her heightened state only allowed her to fight Sauron, who was competent at defense and skilled with a Mace, at a somewhat even footing only briefly. a mere three blows into the initial combat, Sauron crushed her Hammer hand, and she dropped her weapon.
"She is Annoyed after suffering a crippling injury"
without skipping a beat, she drove her shield into his jaw, surprising Sauron with her ferocity and knocking him over. she dodged a crossbow bolt and slammed her shield into his head, bruising the fat. A hammerman corpse came in to support Sauron and swung, only to be parried, and he himself was surprised to be tackled.
For nearly 30 seconds of real time, 22 pages of combat logs, Doren Shiniden dodged every crossbow bolt fired at her, parried or blocked easily every stab of the spearman and swing of both hammermen, and repeatedly knocked each to the floor and viciously beat them with her shield. Sauron had difficuly rejoining the fight, his subordinates crowding him out in an effort to break through the living bulwark that Doren Shiniden had become. she had reached a place of enlightenment, and they could not touch her there.
but a Shield has difficulty doing more than bruising an opponent, and a crushed jaw, two fractured skulls and a punctured lung were the best she could inflict before Sauron found an opening. The Trance cannot last forever, and Dwarves are not Undead, who do not tire. They are mortal.
"Doren Shiniden's Martial Trance has ended!"
"The Human Maceman Sallow One strikes the Recruit in the lower arm with his +Steel Mace+, crushing the bone and tearing the ligaments!"
"Doren Shiniden loses her grip on her -Bismuth Bronze Shield-."
I like to think there was a moment of quiet during the fight, where the only sound was the clang of the shield falling to the ground, and it was just Doren and Sauron, face to face in the forest.
"The Recruit punches the Human Maceman Sallow One in the lower jaw and the injured part is crushed!"
She was vengeful after suffering a crippling injury.
Sauron took his time. He broke her upper arms, shattered her leg, crushed her feet, on and on he swung, her Iron helm and breastplate serving not to protect so much as prolong the suffering Doren endured. she did not ever have a terrified thought. she did not ever give in to the pain. She even dodged another crossbow bolt and tanked the hammermen a bit more.
Doren, whose name means "Diamond", passed out from exhaustion, Unconquered, and Sauron smashed off her head.
This has greater value to me now than any Artifact. The sight of this shield alone puts me in a Fell Mood. None shall ever wield it again, for none could compare to the last wielder.
Doren Saved Nobody. She Protected Nothing. The undead, after brutalizing her corpse, marched blindly into the Green glass sawblade hell I call a trap hallway and none emerged. Her death, to an outside observer, was pointless.

We know better. her death was Beautiful. In her death, she claimed true, real Glory.
Doren Shiniden is why I play this game.

On the very square She fell, Doren's shield stands eternal.
Don't mind the bloodstains or the bones. It's been a busy few weeks setting up this Tomb. I felt it was important. I set my Master glassmaker on a custom project. I told him to just get to work and ignore the screams.
- Glorious pose, to finish the description.
we had a liiiitle bit of a hiccup during the constructon process....

Some might say a pretty sizeable hiccup...

2024.04.29 10:15 A1199000 I am an internationally certified referee for full-contact medieval tournaments. AMA!

I have been in Buhurt (the international name of our sport) for almost a decade now. I am originally from the US, but moved to Europe in 2022 to be closer to the “heart” of the sport (and have less distance between tournaments 😅)
Buhurt is a full-contact sport where participants wear medieval armour and compete using steel weapons. We have multiple categories ranging from duels (1v1 point based fights) to melee (5v5 to 30v30 mass battles where you have to get your opponents to the ground to win.)
Our 2024 season is about to start and I’m still excited, even after a decade, that I get to travel the world to do this wild niche sport.

2024.04.29 08:47 JobFew1598 Animes like Solo leveling.

There isnt an anime like solo leveling where there is no ecchi, the MC is leveling up step by step and achieving more power with an unique power... this is why solo leveling is that good. im also reading threads on reddit but a single comments gives a good anime that is matchable with solo leveling. ill give you some animes and ill split them apart according to if you want to watch an anime that requires leveling up / the MC is OP and they get teleported to an another world where they fight uncommon creatures / something in between.
Leveling up animes :
-Danmachi or ' english title ' > Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? : The MC lives in a world where there are dungeons and they require a god or a goddess to turn their experience in battle into more power, to level up they need to fight a boss that is stronger than them to get promoted so you can already assume that there are not many levels / ranks.
-Sword Art online : i dont think i need to explain much here but the system requires you to level up in a virtual world where players found themselves stuck with no log out button, people who die in the game also die in real life so its pretty dark.
-Accel world: i dont remember really much the plot of the story but i know it is a bout an anime where only few people got the possibility to fight in a semi-virtual world with other players and every single player gets a character that is similar to their personality and morals.
- Chain Chronicle: The story revolves around a book called “Chain Chronicle” that describes everything happening in the world. People living on the continent of Yggd believe there’s nothing beyond their borders and are in a state of despair. However, their continent is divided into many regions by its own King. A lord chosen by the King works tirelessly to maintain peace. The anime shares a concept of “hope and despair,” making it similar to Solo Leveling11.
-So I’m A Spider, So What?: This anime follows a girl who is reincarnated as a spider in another world. Surprisingly, she becomes the weakest spider of all time! Despite her weakness, she doesn’t give up. She trains hard, levels up, and faces powerful creatures. The RPG concept and the MC’s determination to climb to the top resonate with Solo Leveling
-Log Horizon: In this anime, players find themselves trapped in a game world similar to an MMORPG. The protagonist, Shiroe, focuses on strategy, teamwork, and leveling up to survive and thrive in this new reality.
Anime where the MC is already OP and they get teleported to an another world :
-Drifters : During the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, Shimazu Toyohisa manages to mortally wound Ii Naomasa but is critically injured in the process. As he walks wounded and bleeding from the battlefield, Toyohisa finds himself transported to a corridor of doors. There, he encounters a bespectacled man named Murasaki, who sends him through one of the doors into another world.
In this new world, Toyohisa meets other great warriors like him who have also been transported. They form a group known as the “Drifters.” The world they find themselves in contains both native humans and fantastical races like elves, dwarves, and hobbits. However, the world is at war, with humans losing to another group of powerful warriors called the “Ends.” The Ends aim to take over the world and kill all of the Drifters.
Under the Ends’ command are terrifying creatures, including giants and dragons, which they use to destroy everything in their path. At the start of the series, the Ends’ army controls the northern part of the continent and seeks to invade the south through a pivotal fortress. Meanwhile, the “Octobrist Organization,” a group of native human magicians, tries to bring together the Drifters to save their world from the brutal Ends
-Gate : In modern-day Ginza, Tokyo, a portal from another world suddenly appears, unleashing monsters, medieval knights, and other fantasy beings. They attack the city in an event known as the Ginza Incident. The Japan Self-Defense Forces repel the enemy using modern weaponry and tactics. They pass through the Gate to establish a forward operating base and initiate peace negotiations with the Empire of the other world
-Overlord > everyone knows this anime there is no need for plot info but in summary the best player of a game one day finds himself inside of the game playing with his character, as time goes he finds himself losing human feelings as his character is not human and starts to conquer the new world. it is not dark it is more ecchi funny kind of stuff but honestly it is as good as bad news goes.
now something in between :
Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World follows Subaru Natsuki, a hikikomori who suddenly finds himself transported to another world on his way home from the convenience store. There, he meets a girl, but they are brutally murdered. However, Subaru awakens to a familiar scene, and the day begins to mysteriously repeat itself.
Tower Of God: Explore
Tower of God centers around a boy named Twenty-Fifth Bam. He has spent most of his life trapped beneath a vast and mysterious Tower, with only his close friend, Rachel, to keep him company. When Rachel enters the Tower, Bam is devastated. Somehow, Bam manages to open the door to the Tower. Now, he will go any distance to see Rachel again, even if it means dying. As he enters the Tower, he meets allies who will help him climb its floors. The Tower is permeated by an element called Shinsu, and ascension from one floor to the next requires passing increasingly difficult tests of strength, dexterity, and wit11. 🌟🗡️
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar: Transported into an RPG-like world, a group of young people wakes up with no memory of their past lives. They must survive in a mysterious fantasy realm. Grimgar offers a realistic take on living in a fantasy world
No Game No Life: Siblings Sora and Shiro are transported to a world where everything is decided through games. Their goal: to challenge and defeat other races in epic gaming battles. The blend of fantasy and gaming elements is captivating.
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (KonoSuba): Reborn after dying in an RPG-style world of fantasy, Kazuma Satou faces a choice: go to heaven or start anew in a dream world. He chooses the latter and pairs up with the quirky goddess, Aqua. With humor, fantasy, and RPG elements, KonoSuba is reminiscent of Danmachi
I hope this guide finds you well good luck and enjoy watching !

2024.04.29 08:44 unraveki Cant remember this old anime

So I remember an anime from what feels like maybe the 2000s, the video quality i remember being from that era.
It starts off with this teen, blonde I think, going to this religious school, feels medieval england ish, and he walks around for most the first day, and it seems alot of people know him but he doesnt remember them. near the end of the episode while he's by this statue of a godess(?) at the end of a hallway, another teen boy accidentally says his full name//nickname which he'd not given out, and then a few others have a go at him for slipping up, and end up telling the protag that he'd been this place before as a child, and was taken there by his father (who i think was well loved, possibly missing).
Might not be accurate as I just remembered this recently and it feels atleast 10 years old. would appreciate if someone remembers it lol.

2024.04.29 07:25 blistboy Wicked is a ONLY a prequel to the 1939 film (**not Baum's book**)

*Note: I am not a copyright lawyer, I'm not any kind of lawyer, nor am I making an accusation that anyone or any entity is infringing on the copyright or trademark of any other entities. That being said…
I have a theory that Wicked -- both Maguire's novel (Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, 1995) and more so the musical (Wicked, 2003 Universal Stage Productions) -- solely functions as a prequel to the 1939 MGM film the Wizard of Oz (now owned by WB), and not that film's public domain source novel the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Let me explain...
Maguire wrote Wicked in 1994 in response to the Gulf War. His clever use of Oz characters passed scrutiny during publication in 1995 under parody and fair use laws, and because the Baum novel had long been in the public domain… as well as Ted Turner arranging to sell the MGM catalog to WB, circa 1997, making the timing ideal for Maguire's novel to skirt any copyright/trademark scrutiny for using elements from the non-public domain film.
We know what happened next, the book was a raging success and soon it was popular enough to be optioned by Universal and turned into a stage musical produced (after film & TV productions with Demi Moore and Salma Hayek separately attached failed to materialize). The musical opened first in San Francisco for try-outs and then Broadway in 2003. And writers Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman liberally peppered even more direct homages and winks to the 1939 film into leitmotifs and other elements of the book, score, and staging.
But, Wicked has TOO many elements from the 1939 film, and NOT ENOUGH from Baum's original book, to merit it being called a prequel to the book (this is also true of Disney’s 2013 admitted attempt to cash-in on Wicked’s success, Oz: the Great and Powerful – which is even more egregious than Wicked, and ironic, as its own title is directly lifted from the 1939 film misquote of the book’s moniker of “Oz the Great and Terrible”).
---
So now, let's look at some of key differences between the book the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (WWoOZ) and its film adaption from 1939, and how Wicked (and that Disney rip-off - though I don’t want to have to keep mentioning that movie so just assume most of what I say applies there too) reinterprets these events and characters:
- In the book WWoOz it is established that there are four cardinal witches in the land of Oz. Dorothy vanquishes two unrelated Wicked Witches in the East (WWotE) and West (WWotW) as well as encountering the benevolent unnamed good witch of the North at the start of her adventure and a separate good witch, Glinda of the South, who helps her home in the end. MGM condensed the good witches into one character “Glinda the Good Witch of the North” as well as adding a subplot turning the Wicked Witches into sisters (providing Margaret Hamilton’s Witch more direct motivation to pursue Judy Garland’s Dorothy via the Witch’s presumed right to collateral inheritance of her sister’s shoes). Both Maguire and Disney follow the 1939 film’s continuity regarding these relationships making the wicked witches siblings, and Glinda the sole “good witch” in opposition to them.
-WWotW as depicted in Baum’s novel bears little to no resemblance to the green-skinned Margaret Hamilton in the 1939 film, and subsequently Maguire’s Elphaba. Oz illustrator W. W. Denslow, whom Baum worked closely with when designing the characters, depicts the witch as a hunched old hag with three pigtails and an eyepatch, tall brimmed hat, ruffed collar, coat and skirt. While MGM’s design team, led by legendary costumer Adrian, initially tested several looks for WWotW (including a glamorous sequined look inspired by Disney’s Evil Queen in Snow White). MGM screenwriter, Herman Mankiewicz (who expanded the role of the wicked witch from book to screenplay, and wrote several key lines for her including, “I’ll get you my pretty!”) insisted "witches should be ugly!" And Margaret Hamilton’s Witch was given green skin to broadcast her “wickedness” as well as make her face and hands stand-out against her black medieval gown, cloak and sharp brimmed hat. Needless to say this film only element of green-skin becomes a major plot point of Wicked. And Susan Hilferty’s stage designs for Elphaba retain the 1939 film’s silhouette and dark color palette.
-Another difference in Baum’s WWotW is that she only had one eye, but that it "was as powerful as a telescope", and this is how she spies on her enemies. MGM was again inspired by Snow White's Queen, and popular imagery of fortune tellers, giving Hamilton’s Witch the ability to scry in a large crystal ball, which made for some of the most memorable visuals of the film, of her looming eerily over the heroes. Unlike Baum’s WWotW, Maguire’s Elphaba retains vision in both eyes, and inherits her film counterpart's scrying abilities (primarily using a blown-glass orb).
-Baum’s WWotW importantly carries an umbrella, not a broomstick, as a source of protection for her aquaphobia. She has no need for transportation, her location is limited to her castle in the West of Oz. MGM’s script, howvever, gave Hamilton’s Witch a means of transportation that had long been popular in witch mythology, a broomstick, involving her more directly in the narrative (as well as giving the Wizard a macguffin to send Dorothy after). Maguire also chose to make a broomstick a means of travel for Elphaba, and Stephen Schwartz's “Defying Gravity”, the centerpiece of the musical, which sees a scene not included in the novel, where Elphaba defiantly flies over the Emerald City in protest of the Wizard, cemented the broom’s icon status within the framework of the Wicked franchise.
-The Flying Monkeys in Baum’s novel have a rich backstory involving their enslavement at the hands of a sorceress named Gaylette. The monkeys’ terms of imprisonment require they obey three commands given by whomever possess a Golden Cap, which the WWotW owns and uses to capture Dorothy and her friends. Dorothy comes into possession of the Golden Cap after WWotW’s demise (similar to her inheriting the slippers) and is able to command the monkeys to her own benefit later in the book. The Golden Cap subplot was scrapped from the MGM film in favor of giving the witch a more ambiguous command over her uniformed simian air force (though it still appears in the final cut as a prop tossed by Hamilton's Witch to Nikko, the flying monkey). Maguire’s Wicked makes no mention of Baum’s golden cap, giving Elphaba a monkey factotum, similar to MGM’s Nikko, now called Chistrey. The monkeys are given a vivisection backstory in Maguire's novel and are a result of the Grimmerie’s levitation spell in the musical, but Elphaba’s willful command of the their legions, without the limitations of the Golden Cap, is much more reminiscent of MGM’s Witch than Baum’s.
-Famously the slippers Dorothy inherits from the WWotE in Baum’s novel are made of silver metal (sterling silver shoes were popular as decorations and sugar bowls in Baum's day). The Slippers in the 1939 film were famously changed to ruby, so as to be more eye-catching against the technicolor yellow road. After some initial designs, MGM designer Adrian landed on the iconic red sequined pump seen in the film. Maguire’s novel, utilizing the film’s sibling backstory to motivate Elphaba, makes the famous pair of slippers into a sentimental pair of shoes adorned with beaded glass, in the musical referred to as "jeweled", which refract multiple colors, notably ruby red. Susan Hilferty’s choice of silver sequined pumps for the musical, given a red special lighting cue at a crucial moment, distinctly resemble Adrian’s 1939 design.
-Dorothy is a young child of roughly seven or eight years old in Baum’s novel and its illustrations. In Maguire’s take on the character she is depicted as a husky teenager prone to cloying musical outbursts. Teenage Judy Garland was famously derided at MGM for her weight, especially filming Oz, with Louis Mayor allegedly calling her his “little hunchback”.
-The Wizard appears as multiple facades in Baum’s novel; a giant head, ball of fire, glamorous woman, and monstrous beast. In the 1939 film the extent of his deception is the use of a giant head, similarly he only appears as a looming head in Wicked.
-But what I find most telling is that none of the witches in Baum’s novel directly interact with one another (later novels in the Oz series withstanding). The famous confrontation between the two witches in Munchkinland was entirely a fabrication of the 1939 film’s screenwriters. The musical’s entire premise, and a large portion of the novel’s, relies on the idea that these two opposing witches shared some past which informs their conflict in that scene, but that moment is solely a product of the 1939 film.
---
I think the way Maguire skirted copyright is incredibly clever and certainly well within fair-use (and probably long past any statute-of-limitations for any kind of damages sought by WB), but I find it wild that such a popular franchise as Wicked has basically used legal gray areas to bring a rainbow of color to Oz, all while claiming use of public domain versions of characters, and clearly mining the trademarked versions of those characters for most of their inspiration.

TL;DR Wicked does not function as a prequel to the book by L. Frank Baum, but only serves as a prequel to the 1939 film, starring Judy Garland. This is evident because the Witch in Baum's book isn't green, doesn't ride a broom, only has one eye, no sister, and never interacts with Glinda (who is an amalgamation of two separate characters).

2024.04.29 06:37 LevelPerspective2 Wishlist

I know everyone is anticipating the next dlc when the game is updated next but even more than that I’m hoping they introduce a couple quality of life changes namely :
-the option to make impositions on faction composition(especially with all the additional factions,I’d like to be able to have a playthrough without mechs or just pirates for example)
-tech level for opposing factions : being able to limit all parties to a certain tech level to facilitate something like a medieval playthrough or make it so truly advanced groups can spawn with things like cataphract armor and monoswords with a higher degree of regularity would be great.
-lastly an option to to increase or limit raid points: being able to balance performance and challenge to your liking, maybe even on a per faction basis would be incredible
I know some or all of these are unlikely to be added nor are they realistic to expect but they would be a massive boon to the enjoyment of the game for me personally

2024.04.29 05:33 jknight7741 Looking for an old game

This might be odd but i am looking for a game i used to play a long time ago (probably 10 years ago?) It was a TD similar to Age Of War, where you had a base and the other side was where the enemies were coming from The style was cartoonish, and you used these animals dressed in medieval armocostumes for your troops I cannot remember for the life of me what the name is, and its been so long its starting to sound like it never existed and i made it up But if someone knows what im talking about, please let me know! Ty!

2024.04.29 05:14 dontlookatmeplez Looking for a modlist recommendation

Hey! I tried a bunch of modlists a year or two ago, so my current knowledge about them are pretty outdated. Until now I played mostly a modlist which name starts with N, but I want to move on and find something newer and still updated. My requirements?
Is there you guys can recommend for me? I tried Licentia, but I’m not so sure about it. Also sneaking and running animations are just.. yeah. Right now I’m testing TPF Zediious but I have to look at modlist a bit more and play around. If there’s nothing that comes close to my needs I will just modify an existing list. I will play using a RTX4070Ti, 32GB of RAM and R7 5800x3D on 3440x1440. Thank you for help!

Berserk World Map
https://preview.redd.it/we2gju863cxc1.png?width=1530&format=png&auto=webp&s=d21d474ce9da04cb3470443d42df9d023b1bd91e
I've seen a few fan-made ones out there and really liked some of the concepts. Since there's no official map though, I thought I'd share my general idea of it. It's mainly based off the late-medieval/early-modern era, with the main nations refered to in the manga being reflected by what some may consider their 'closest' historical counterparts for the period. Feel free to add any suggestions, as none of this is set in stone.
There's a legend at the bottom-left corner of the picture, but the basic idea is that these fictional nations would represent some of the major European powers at the time (after the '100 Years War' but before the 'Age of Discovery'). Thus having Midland (Germanic HRE), TudoChuder (France), Iith/Ys (England), Paneria Alliance (Italian cities/states), the Holy See (Papal States), Balden and Randel (Castille and Aragon). Then, further east would be Morgar and Wallatoria (Hungary and Poland-Lithuania), which are described as Eastern kingdoms. And lastly the Kushan Empire, representing an amalgamation of cultures such as the Moors and Ottomans (with its capital resembling Istanbul, at least from what little could be seen so far), with very clear Persian and Hindi influences.
A few key differences can be easily spotted in this model, such as the '100 Years War' being fought between a fictional France and a united HRE (instead of England and France, as it was historicaly), but with Iith/Ys being described as a naval and trader nation, I would think they are best represented by England in this period, leaving the other two large continental powers to be the main players in the fictional conflict. Also, in 'Golden Age' Tudor are often shown as being able to field significant amounts of heavy cavalry, while having many named Knightly Orders in their ranks, perhaps more closely resembling the French chivalric culture of the time. Meanwhile, Midland (whose name clearly refers to being, itself, at the centre of the continent) seems to rely much more on mercenaries -such as the 'Band of the Hawk'- than their opponents in the 100 YW, which was usually the norm for the various princes and lords of the HRE. Lastly, I chose to place Doldrey somewhere in the Flanders region -as a clear buffer zone between the two powers, thus becoming an important strategic point-, then I saw fit to locate the Midland capital of Windham/Falconia over in Vienna, which would be the Imperial seat of the Habsburgs -and Griffith's, in our story- onto the modern era.
Paneria and the Holy See seem to be the easiest to draw historical paralels with, the former encompasing a collection of Italian cities/states -such as Venice (which more closely resembles Vritannis by being a huge port city, despite the fictional one lacking cannals and such), Milan, Florence, Genoa, Verona, Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, etc.-, and the later seemingly representing a fictional Rome, along with the Vatican and its Papal States.
As for Balden and Randel, since not much is said about them in the manga, apart from one braking apart from the other -which at least hints at a close proximity and/or shared culture- I chose to put them inside the Iberian peninsula as the former kingdoms of Castile and Aragon, even if a case could be made for them resembling Spain and Portugal intead, which I'd also be comfortable with.
Since the whole extent of the Kushan Empire is not officialy known, perhaps the most accurate image one could make of it would be (from a Western-european perspective) of a nation born in the Far-east -somewhere between India and/or Persia- that later took on a large scale Imperialist expansion, brought forth by Ganishka's ambition, being able to reach as far the Middle-east, North-africa and perhaps even achieving a foothold in some parts of Europe, not unlike what Islamic powers such as the Moors and Ottomans managed to do historically. With this image in mind, one can make sense of the events portrayed in the manga -such as the Kushan invasion of Midland and occupation of its capital, followed by the Naval assault on Vritannis-, find a basis for its immense naval capabilities (controling most of the Mediterranean shoreline), and explain the simultaneous conflicts with Morgar and Wallatoria, which are also mentioned in the story.
Finally, when it comes to those points of interest relevant to the story at large, I'm guessing one could place Godo's cabin somewhere up in the Alps, St. Albion somewhere in the Papal States, such as the Romagna, the 'Sea-God' island in th Baleares -off the eastern coast of Spain-, and Grant -where Grunbeld comes from and is described as a volcanic island- in Iceland. Skellig and Elfhelm are a different story, however, since the island is said to be somewhere along the Western Sea there would seem to be quite a few options, such as the smaller islands surrounding Scotland and Ireland, or even the archipelagoes -such as the Canaries or Azores- located over the Atlantic. In any case I'd say I'm fine with either case, even if most of the mythical creatures found on the island do tend to more closely resemble those of Celtic and Norse mythology.
PS: The base map was taken from the M2TW SSHIP mod's database. I simply made a few changes and painted over it, in order to 'conceptually' match the fictional world of Berserk.

Alberram's plugins aren't heavy enough to impact performance significantly. If they are, we allow players to use performance enhancing mods as long as they run them by the staff team first.

In modern day, in an attempt to gain more land, ignorant that there was none to spare, each region prepared to wage war against one another. However, lately a rumor has spread throughout each region of a newly discovered continent east of their own, having earned the name "Alberram". Will you be a soldier that flees to avoid certain death? Will you be a wanderer wishing to start anew? Or will you be a kindly commoner; fleeing in an attempt to live a peaceful life without the horrors of war? The fate of the world is in your hands.

2024.04.28 23:08 MedicinalPsycho a story idea thats been bouncing around my mind.

this is mainly to see if my idea has any merit, ive been sitting infront of white pages too long and dont know if its worth realy getting into writing these are my most finished parts because my ADHD has bounced back on them the most if you want more i can see about dropping what bits and pieces i have in the discussion
chapter 1: As Elise and Atlas navigated the dense forest, a sudden tearing noise sliced through the air, chilling them to the bone. Startled, Atlas grasped Elise's shoulder, his expression filled with curiosity. he suggested investigating the source of the disturbance. Pushing through the underbrush, they stumbled upon a peculiar tear in the fabric of space, revealing a group of otherworldly creatures.
One of the creatures emerged fully, its gaze fixating on the two children. With dread sinking in, Atlas acted swiftly, shoving Elise out of harm's way as the creature lunged towards them. The impact sent Atlas reeling, and he found himself being dragged towards the tear. Frozen in fear, Elise watched helplessly until a surge of determination coursed through her.
Ignoring her trembling hands, she seized her basket of berries, smashing it over the creature's back. In response, the creature turned its attention to her, striking her with a forceful blow. As Atlas regained his footing, he armed himself with a sickle, positioning himself defensively between Elise and the creature.
Their desperate struggle continued, with Atlas narrowly avoiding the creature's attacks. However, a moment of distraction proved costly as the creature struck Atlas, sending him crashing into a tree. Elise's cries pierced the chaos as she witnessed her brother's fall, her heart pounding with terror.
The creature, undeterred, focused its aggression on Elise, inflicting a devastating blow that fractured her leg. With a firm grip on her, it began dragging her towards the rift, leaving Atlas helpless to intervene. In his final moments of consciousness, Atlas glimpsed a glimmer of hope as an arrow pierced the creature's neck, and darkness descended upon him.
Saved by the hunters from their village, Elise and Atlas survived the harrowing encounter, the echoes of the tearing sound fading into the night, leaving behind a haunting reminder of the dangers lurking in the shadows.
chapter ?: As the fight against the mages raged on, Atlas could feel his body weakening. He had already taken down three of the giant ogre-like mages, but he could feel his magical reserves dwindling. Meanwhile, Elise was holding her own against her three opponents, but the mages were proving to be formidable adversaries.
Suddenly, one of the mages broke away from the fight and flew towards the party members, preparing a powerful magic artifact. Atlas knew that he had to act quickly, but he was blocked by the second mage, who used wind magic to throw him back towards Elise. But Elise was quick on her feet and used her own wind magic to redirect Atlas into the blind spot of the third mage.
Atlas took advantage of the situation and decapitated the third mage with his sword. But before he could make his way to the mage with the artifact, it had already activated. Atlas knew that he couldn't stop the attack, so he threw himself between the artifact and his party members.
As the attack hit, Atlas felt his body disintegrating. But he could hear a voice in the back of his head, urging him to get out of there. It was the voice of his sister, who had always been protective of him. But Atlas ignored her plea and instead imagined all of his strength flowing into her.
As he closed his eyes, he saw a dim golden aura surrounding him. The aura mixed with the red and black light from the attack, and Atlas's spirit absorbed the massive spell. He defied the laws of the universe and directed all of the power into one thought: "Elise better make it out of this alive."
In that moment, Atlas sacrificed himself for the sake of his party members and the world. But his spirit lived on, infused with all the love and compassion he had for his sister.
chapter ?: Elise walked slowly towards the pile of dust where her brother once stood. She kneeled down and reached out, picking up a small metal plate with an inscription from Atlas. "I saw death yesterday on my watch, I know I won't make it out of this fight," Elise read out loud, her voice breaking slightly. "I know you will hurt for a long time, but I don't want you to get lost. Become the pillar for the future, find a husband, and please carry on. I love you - Atlas."
Elise closed her eyes and held the metal plate close to her chest. Tears didn't come, but her heart felt shattered. She stood up in a daze and began walking with a blank expression, passing through the many battlefields that had taken the lives of her party members.
As she walked, a small gremlin monster suddenly jumped out and stabbed her in the shoulder, the point of the dagger poking out the Front, its tip glistening red. Elise turned slashed the creature's throat, still with the dagger lodged in her shoulder.
For three days and nights, Elise walked without stopping until she finally arrived at the capital, dagger still in her shoulder. The guards at the gate tried to stop her, but they froze up when they met her eyes and let her pass. Elise then made her way to the palace where the royal guards tried to stop her but also let her pass when they realized who she was.
Elise finally stood before the king and explained what had happened in the fight and how the others had fought honorably. Only after her audience with the king and when she returned to her and Atlas's room did she finally let her emotions out, falling to her knees and crying uncontrollably.
Days passed, and Elise didn't leave her room. She remained isolated, feeling the pain of losing her brother and the others. However, one day, she decided to leave the room and go for a walk around the city. As she walked, she heard someone calling her name.
its still a work in progress, my ADHD mind jumps from scene to scene without properly finishing any. the story focuses of Elise and Atlas as there world changes, the "main" world is like our medieval age knights kings and farmers and another world with the slight change that it has magic, and the creatures from that world studied magic instead of science and are now having issues with resources and land, instead of looking up to the stars and going to other planets they use magic to find another earth and are trying to invade it
all thats gets explained in 3 or so half finished chapters, but the main story is gona be Elise and Atlas learning to make use of the limited magic that seeps into their world when the rifts open and trying to stop the creatures from destroying their world, creating adventurer guilds and teaching magic/ how to fight these creatures, in a fight to defend the capital Atlas intercepts a massive spell, and through a way i have yet to properly explain grants his sister immortality,

2024.04.28 21:55 VarusToVictory A Fond Farewell and Post Campaign Blues

Today I've said goodbye to what's probably my most beloved character. Although I started playing him as a 1st level character in the september of 2022, his concept - a gentle, yet mature sun elven paladin of devotion - was something I've been thinking of for a long time now. He was a real journey to play. He was a troubadour, you see and I can't perform poetry to save my life. So when he got into a flirty encounter with a lady in Elturel - a Lady who would then shape his future quite heavily and in time become his wife - I not only had to fight for my life trying to perform it in front of the table, but since I'm also a sucker for keeping it immersive, I've read and rewrote a few dozens of actual medieval poems so that they match the setting. It was a lot of work, which I found myself loving.
The ending was happy. Our decisions left our collective consciences clean. Our stand against our enemy, the Demogorgon was heroic, while we managed to levy our allies to unite and fight his lieutenant, the powerful lord of Balors. And not going to lie, I smiled a bit at my character standing toe to toe with the demon prince and weathering his attacks while he prepped to strike at the demon via his capstone and channel divinity. - I know, not the most optimal way of doing things, but hell, it was the final battle. I'm going in with my aura radiating light like I'm the sun. - The dice were even nice to me thereafter. giving me a crit straight off the bat. Where I made use of a leftover 4th level slot to bring the pain.
And after all of this, I feel pretty happy-sad. Just as I dreaded and maybe hoped? I'm happy that all of us got a happy ending. A deserved one, at that. Yet I can't help but feeling just a bit sad that I'm never reading a poem as bad as I did while my Paladin is serenading a brass dragon lady of all people. I'm going to miss the banter between this party. I'm going to miss the ranger always trying to climb the largest and most dangerous freaking enemy to hack at it, which we have since named a maneuver of as his namesake. I'm going to miss all the wonderful NPCs our DM brought to life and all the bonds our characters created with them. I'm going to miss my showoff steed. I'm going to miss everything about this character and yet, while I know he's not real, I feel happy that we left him off in a happy place he challenged fate itself to reach.
I'm guessing a lot of you felt like once in a while. When a campaign went really, unrealistically well. I don't know whether there's an actual point to this post beyond me getting this off my chest. Hope you people have good times adventuring.

2024.04.28 21:52 SiameseBeauty "The Grand Duke of vampires."

"The Grand Duke of vampires." ••• The Duke, a wise, terrifying giant man with vampirism is highly respected, rightful, fair ruler to his people. However, he's a very stern man and rules with iron fist - his enticing appearance can become a harbinger of ruthless wrath on matter of seconds. He tests men's morality at any chance given and punishments are incredibly cruel - from torture chambers to becoming a inexplicable monster yourself to roam the dungeons of his castle. ••• He loves his wife dearly and ensures her comfort and satisfaction by any means. Even the gardens, dedicated just for her, should not have a single rose plucked out. His immortality is far beyond just avoiding death from age and sickness - Sun does not pierce through his skin as effectively and bullets are mere means to end. Due to these unique traits he is not only considered the strongest vampire to be written about, but as well as given the nickname "The Deathless". ••• No research specified his similarities to vampires such as Upyr - thus, given the name of "Ancient vampire" for the breed type is a guess that vampires of his features were like this before all seperated to their own land. Or that he could be a mixed breed of some sort. ••• Natural born vampires stops aging up physically and can no longer change physical appearence from certain age, just like every other vampire who gets turned from human. There is no other difference - just a different method ( as their body chooses the grown up/developed age when the whole progress stops ) with identical consequenses in the end. The only bonus is that natural born vampires do control their thirst better, eyeballs are black and has no bite marking. ••• There's no undead or bloodsucker who wouldn't be excited for his hosted feasts and festivals. Mead or blood, tons of food, drink well and celebrate! ☆ To raise affection, give him a pryanik, he has a sweet tooth for those!

☆ His only weakness is his heart. Strike it and you'll get him...but for this exact reason he has it ripped out of his chest and hidden somewhere else away. Legends say his heart is twice the size of normal man's, and it spills in gold...those who tried to raise a blade against it, went insane.

All of my characters are set in medieval ages period He originates from Kievan rus, 9th - 10th century His physical age is 45 He's a very tall man - Reaching 9'0 feet tall ( 2 m 74 cm ). Muscular and with some thickness to him. He has quiete pronounced curves Wears heels! Proud papa of MANY hellhounds. And they only obey him and him alone. Even the servants fear those hellish dogs.

2024.04.28 21:19 nirvana-on-top What’s the actual reason we can’t change our island name?

With no inspiration, I named it “TropicTown”. Now, I’m making it a medieval gothic kingdom. Very large discrepancy there, but I don’t want to reset to fix such a small detail. But why?? It’s very infuriating.
