Nyc cars under2000

TL;DR: 39-year-old woman with epilepsy, struggling with medications that don't work and their side effects. Cannabis use has drastically reduced my seizures, but legal issues and family conflicts complicate things (mother is anti-cannabis). After a recent seizure my license is suspended, and I'm risking my job and home. I'm desperate for solutions but feel trapped by my condition and circumstances.
I'm looking for some input/support from others who have epilepsy if possible, because I honest to god don't know what to do here.
I am 39f and was first diagnosed with epilepsy at 14. We don't know what causes or triggers my seizures, I just randomly seem to have them. For the majority of the last 25 years, I've been on a number of different drugs- Gabapentin, Lomotrigine, Keppra, Lorazapam and Topomax (I was on this the longest; I started taking it in the early 2000s as teen and was part of the original clinical studies of it when it was first released)- but they never stopped or controlled my seizures. I would continue to regularly have 1 seizure every 3 to 4 months, even when taking my medications exactly as prescribed.
As I got older and moved out on my own, I stopped taking my medications as prescribed because not only were they not working and I was still having break-through seizures, I was experiencing a host of negative side effects, the worst of which was when my speech was being affected. This was on Topomax, which I had already been on for many years (well over a decade at that point), but my mind would just completely blank out and I wouldn't know how to speak, I'd lose words and forget entire ideas and concepts. And that became a real issue, especially since I am a cook and need to be able to communicate "on the fly". And if suddenly I lose the ability to communicate, then I can't do my job.
So I stopped taking prescription pills and, having heard great things about cannabis/CBD over the years, I started experimenting with that. I don't have an exact regimine down, but I've noticed that while I consume marijuana, I have fewer seizures. Instead of 3-4 a year, I have one seizure every 2 years. The longest I went without one was 2.5 years, and that was using strictly cannabis- just smoking it regularly when I get home from work/before bed, on days off, etc. Unfortunately, this has caused a lot of problems with my mother and I, as she's your typical anti-marijuana boomer... pot's a gateway drug and only leads to harder drugs like fentanyl and cocaine, she doesn't believe it has any medical benefits, thinks it's more addictive than alcohol, etc. Name your trope and she believes it. She doesn't trust me that I am doing what is best for me because her own biases get in the way. And it also doesn't help we live in a state where it's still illegal.
Anyhow, I had been doing well and was almost at another 2 year seizure-free anniversary (June would mark 2 years), when I had a seizure last Tuesday at my therapy appointment. They called 911 and I was transported to the ER, where I remained under watch for a few hours. I was released mid-afternoon, and when my brother and his wife picked me up, I had another seizure in their car, and I was brought right back to the ER, where I stayed a few more hours. I was finally released Tuesday night and all has been well since.
Here's my struggles and this is what I have the hardest time with:
My license has been suspended. I continue to drive anyway, which I know is stupid and risky, but where I live, I have no choice. It's insanely rural and we have zero public transportation in the small town where I live. No buses, subways, taxis, not even Uber or Lyft or anything of the sort. So in order for me to have a job, I need a car. I also need one just to be able to run basic errands like going grocery shopping. It's not like I live in the middle of NYC with shops an boutiques every 5 feet.
Last year I started working a really good job for a great employer, I finally make ok money... when the hours are available (which they are not right now). And that job is now on the line because my license is currently suspended, pending an appointment with and clearence through my neurologist. In order to get my license reinstated, they're going to want me to go back on prescription medication. They currently have me back on Keppra, but when I tried explaining to the ER that pills don't work and I experince nasty side effects, they started arguing with me. I get that I'm not a trained medical professional, but I know my body, and I know what works and doesn't work for me. I don't care what drugs they are paid to push. All I care about is what actually works for me.
So I'm in a position where if I want my license reinstated, I am forced to go back on prescriptions that don't work. I've been back on Keppra now for less than 24 hours and already I noticed a marked difference in my attitude/behavior. I'm incredibly angry, moody and severely depressed- not unusual for me, but since starting therapy a couple months ago, I'd been noticing a real improvment the last 2-3 weeks, I was less depressed, moody, anxious, etc.
For the time being, despite having a suspended license, I am still traveling to/from work. I know I shouldn't be driving, but I don't know what to do. I literally cannot afford to lose this job, and I have nowhere to turn for help. There's no community resources available (I already tried looking into that last year when I was jobless), and my job doesn't offer any kind of help with things like relocation costs or anything like that. Not to mention apartments in our area are almost impossible to come by these days, another reason I can't afford to be homeless- I'd literally have nowhere to go, I'd be living in my car.
I'm stuck in my life and I don't know what to do. I'm a prisoner to my own disorder and I have no idea what to do. I'm forced to take medications that don't work and that fuck with my head/mood/emotions, etc. Doctors don't listen to me when I tell them what does work. I'm on the verge of losing my job, and ultimately my home if I don't conform to what the doctors want, because to get my license reinstated, my neurologist has to give the 'ok' to the DMV. And while yes I am driving anyway so it might seem that I don't care, but I do. I know I'm in the wrong, I know I am breaking the law. But I have to work. I have no choice. And I know people will come at me and say I'm being stupid and irresponsible and you'd ben right. You'd be 1000% correct, but again, I have no choice. I have no other job propsects. No money. No savings. Nowhere to turn to for help. Nowhere to live if I get evicted.
I don't know what to do.

I have a NYC License but my car is registered in Virginia, will my NYC license be affected by this ??

My scooter(s) were my primary transportation as I have severe arthritis and they get me around almost everywhere I go. Now I'm without. Thanks!

Hello all.
I could really use some advice on what to do with my sister. She is 26 and was working at a top bank in NYC as a fund manager.
A failed promotion, insane stress, and crazy internal corporate drama later, she comes home with an episode of psychosis. She was very very down, cries a lot etc. Therapist was considering bipolar but it was too soon to say since she was still exhibiting psychosis symptoms.
Fast forward to two-three weeks ago. She has taken my parents off to have any knowledge or input on her treatment. She is canceling her therapy appointments. She is spiraling and is showing pretty much every major mania symptom. She is living at home but the current situation is untenable as she is hyper sexual and aggressive towards us..
She has no car, no phone, and no friends.. she has burned all those bridges..
We are at an extreme loss of what to do. Can someone please advise on next steps we can do to help her?

Hey everyone, will be visiting Utah, specifically the scenic destinations. It will be for 5 days between 5/25 and 5/29. Flying in to SLC on 5/25 and renting a car straight from the airport. First destination will be the Bonneville Salt Flats and then from then on, planning to drive about 4-5 hours straight to Goblin Valley State Park. The first two days would be spent in the Hanksville area. Was looking at hotel/motel/airbnb's and they were somewhere in the $250/night range or were too far. My first question is:

1. Are there any places where it is okay to sleep in the rental car around the area?
2. How long would you recommend I spend in the destinations? Do you recommend that I remove some destinations? Here is the list I have at the moment:

• Goblin Valley State Park
• The Mars Research Station
• Factory Butte
• Moon Overlook Rd
• Bentonite Hills
• Gooseneck Overlook
• Zion National Park

For days 3-4, I plan to spend in Zion National Park area/vicinity. For the last day, drive the rest of the way to Las Vegas, Nevada airport for my flight back to NYC.

27M with a 6 month old son.
I have a bachelors in psychology and a masters in Human Computer Interaction and have no work experience.
Job market seems to just be dead. My rent is $1500 a month, car insurance $313, electric like $100, WiFi $50, and food + baby stuff probably another $500-$600.
I know just to pay my bills I need to make 50k bare minimum (which sucks because I would literally be living paycheck to paycheck with this salary.
As of right now, I stay home with my son mom-thurs and then I do grubhub/uber like 16 hours a day from 10am-2am Fri-Sunday.
Doing this, I’m usually able to make like $1000 a week but obviously it’s a lot of work for those 3 days. My wife hates it because she says I spend no time with her and that I need to get a real job.
I have been trying to get a job for months but I send out a couple thousand interviews and get no phone calls or interviews. When I’m home with my son, some days I’ll literally apply for jobs from 8am-4pm nonstop the entire time and nothing. I think I’ve probably applied to every single job in NYC, NJ, PA, and Connecticut within 100 miles and nothing.
Any advice? How can I get a job that makes at least like 70-80k so I can no longer struggle? I want to be able to spend time with my family without having to work 50 hours over the weekend. My wife is seriously getting pissed with me “never being home”
She assumed that I would waltz into a 6 figure job once I got an advanced degree but that’s not the case.

hi!! so i kinda have 48 hours to decide which one i want to go to next year and i am SO STUCK i keep going back and forth. i am a business major but im hoping to double major in data science on top of that. at south carolina id do international business, finance, and data science (if possible) and at pitt id do finance and data science and maybe business analytics. here’s my pros and cons list that show my preferences:
PITT: pros:
-amazing city, favorite location and there’s so much to do for fun besides parties and drinking
-people/student environment seem really nice and chill and also hardworking
-smaller business school so easier to stand out
-honors program
-the city has benefits of good networking and is super connected to other major cities northeast cities like nyc & boston (where i hope to work)
-easy to get access to their sports games
-easier to get leadership positions in business organizations because again it’s a small business school
-very chill greek life
-good diversity (i’m half asian btw)
cons:
-business program wasn’t as well ranked, #110 ranked business (niche) and #46 for accounting and finance (niche)
-competing with cmu students
-smaller business school, not my fav socially
-ugly old business college, was not a fan of its look

• a lot of cold and rain weather, seasonal depression lowk

-IB credits suck there, could go in with max 4 credits and just for math
USC: pros:
-such nice warm weather for majority of the time that id be there
-pretty campus, mix of college town and small city
-great international business program, #1 international business (U.S. world news)
-honors college is really good and comes with a lot of beneficial perks
-pretty good business program ranking, #46 business (niche and #38 accounting/finance (niche)
-all the housing options look really nice
-good class size (mix of big and small)
-pretty business school/classrooms
-best opportunities for my IB credits
-lake/nice river right near campus
-socially it seems really fun and very college movie like
Cons:
-Far out of state, hard travel, would get homesick and i can only get home by a plane trip or really long car ride
-Harder to break into the networks and connections in northeast cities due to location down south
-Super hot in the fall
-Hardcore greek life, i think id def have to do it because i get fomo😞
-Not as well recognized
-bad overall ranking, like #124 on us news reports for overall universities
-Scary southern people lowk
-low diversity, only 4% asian population

Hello everyone I am a taxi driver in NYC. I got into an accident three years ago where I was at a crosswalk trying to merge into traffic. I looked repeatedly in both directions before inching up until I was in the crosswalk so I could look for oncoming cars. I did have a stop sign.
One of those times I was inching up, a cyclist came through the crosswalk, opposite the flow of traffic and the cyclists pedal got stuck in my grill and launched him about 1-2 feet in the direction he was headed.
I got out to check how he was doing, an ambulance was called and my insurance was collected by a police officer for the report but nowhere was I asked what happened, although on the police report it said that I admitted fault in the accident, which I did not.
The cyclist was taken in an ambulance and I heard nothing until I got served the papers last year.
He is asking for a large amount and I want to know how liable I am to pay it? I do have insurance and they are representing me, but should I have my own lawyer as well.
We are in the discovery phase and I am going to talk to the lawyer this week ahead of the deposition, but I’m nervous. I have been driving for 30 years and I’ve been a taxi driver for almost 10 and I’ve never faced something like this.
Any advice feedback you can provide, I would appreciate.

Purchased used Lincoln Navigator from a doge jeep ram dealership end of January 2024 in NJ. Took car home to SC. Was told they couldn’t get it registered out of state. Took it to the DMV in SC. They say they can’t register it as it is listed as stolen in NYC. This was not and still is not on the carfax. Dealership said they are working on it. It is almost May. Is there like a time period for me to file a complaint or lawsuit. Dealership said oh someone must have leased it returned the lease late and it got registered as stolen in NYC. Any advice would help thanks.

Does anyone know of an upcoming demolition derby event within a 1-2 hour drive of NYC? I have a car and am willing to travel but the closest ones I've found have been up near Buffalo which doesn't seem very feasible as a day trip.

I know this is third world country in many regards, but with so many laws and regulations targeting citizens instead of corporations and institutions, you'd think that like any civilized country I've travelled to there's a limit to the car sound that can be blasted in front of residence, tired people working during the week, babies, people with sensitive hearing or cognition.
And especially since, once again, there's no regulation when it comes to corporation or developers building shit houses, the fact that some of some cars blasting music make alarms go off and the wall vibrates, that would be illegal like anywhere else. So how TF come that this is not illegal in NYC?

We mostly know the deal when we buy a MINI but I have to say it out loud, ouch, this car hurts so good!

Hello everyone, I’ve been out of the hot toys game for a while and looking to shift a few of my figures. I can’t really find a guide on price for one so I thought I would ask here
It’s the VGM18 Arkham City Batman, displayed in museum pose, no damages or tears to the suit and has been in a cabinet out of the sun for the entirety of its life. Figure is mint, complete with all accessories and box is also mint (no damage or tears). I purchased the figure in NYC years back from midtown comics and it’s been a British resident ever since haha. Model cars have taken over, and room is running out, I don’t appreciate the figure much and I’d rather it go to a home that does. I love my DX11 and DX12 but the Arkham doesn’t fit anymore. Once I have an idea on price I’ll be posting it up on the BST alongside one or two more. Appreciate any help!

I'm well aware of the proximity to NYC, Philly, and the coast, but I'd love to hear about specific areas to visit and hidden gems from around the state.
For context, I'll be alone for the most part, I'll have a car, and I'll have a traditional two-day weekend (Sat/Sun). I enjoy sports, hiking, and the outdoors in general. As a Midwest guy, I'm hoping to experience the best of what NJ and this side of the country has to offer.

My father’s side is originally from Detroit, but they relocated to ColumbiaMD as the city started crumbling in the 60s. Seeing the city come back from the brink gives me immense optimism that Baltimore can absolutely do the same. The city always struck me as having so much untapped potential. Baltimore’s urban layout is predominantly pre-war and has the skeleton to leverage industrial on-shoring as a result of deglobalization. So, if done right, the city could be a model of urban renewal and create a European-like environment centered around walking and public transit.
Here are a few proposals:

1. Redevelopment of blighted areas: While this is already occurring in some places, it could be accelerated by eliminating legal hurdles and offering tax incentives to private developers. The city could also use eminent domain to seize lots, demolish them, and either sell or develop themselves using social and public housing models from cities like Vienna or NYCs Mitchell Lama Coop program. This would reduce disadvantaged community displacement and negative gentrification.
2. Rezoning: Lessen zoning restrictions to allow varied forms of housing. High and mid-rise apartments, condos, board housing, duplexes, row homes, tiny homes, even close-proximity single-family homes, all planned around walkability, public transit, and mixed-use areas, as was the case in pre-WWII cities.
3. Cut off subsidies to the suburbs: The modern development model essentially subsides sprawl by subsidizing suburbs via funding infrastructure like roads and sewers. This is financially, socially, and environmentally unsustainable. If people want to live in their suburbs, that’s fine. They should pay the true cost of maintaining them. Of course, this would likely require state law to change.
4. Relocate county businesses: Dramatically increasing tax incentives for businesses from neighboring counties to relocate to Baltimore would diversify the city's economic landscape and increase tax revenue for schools and services. Also require owners and workers to live in city limits as a requirement.
5. Industrial on-shoring: With the era of globalization potentially drawing to a close and global instability rising, incentivizing industrial/manufacturing on-shoring to the city would provide a new engine for blue-collar and low-skilled workers.
6. Restoring the streetcar system: Baltimore's historic streetcar network, designed before WWII, remains a poignant reminder that our car-centric planning isn’t permanent. If paired with rail networks to the suburbs, this would be the best way to disincentivize car ownership and promote walkability.
7. Personal modes of transport: Most cities around the world use scooters and e-bikes as alternatives to cars. Dirt bike subculture could actually provide a foundation for more sustainable transportation.
8. Promote family and social cohesion: This one will likely be controversial here, but Baltimore is a prime example of how excessive socially liberal and individualistic ideas of family and community have been an absolute disaster for minority/disadvantaged communities. The social consequences of Baltimore’s 70% out-of-wedlock birth rate and 65% of children living in single-parent households significantly exacerbate poverty, crime, and reliance on government support. The city should provide funding and land for non-profit community and religious organizations that develop social and familial cohesion. More non profit organizations, more mutual aid groups, more communitarianism, more community development and cohesion.

The crime, decay, and corruption is the result of the socioeconomic discriminatory/racist practices and past suburbanization policies. Change requires political will. But the housing crisis will only get worse, and if any of us want to afford to live near our families and this great state, we need to be ambitious. What are your thoughts?
