2024.04.29 10:34 TheBallChinGoblin Skyrim fills me with incredible nostalgia.

Fantasy games have always had a profound effect on me ever since I watched my first Lord of The Rings movie. My parents didn't allow me to watch it until I was 8 years old (2007), and when I finally got the opportunity my life was sold. Every month for 4 years straight I would watch the entire trilogy and I would go outside and play soldier of Osgiliath with my neighbors in the woods next to my house, fighting off hordes of imaginary orcs. I also dabbled in RuneScape at that age and I would massacre goblins in free to play pretending I was in Middle Earth. Even in early Minecraft I would try to rebuild structures from Middle Earth. Safe to say, Peter Jackson's Lord of The Rings had not only claimed my life, but also my soul in every positive way.
And then, 2011, I saw an E3 video of Skyrim. It was my first ever demo video and I had no idea what E3 even was, but looking at dragonborn clad in the classic iron armor walking out in the open had me in awe. The graphics, dated as they might be currently, looked like the greatest I had seen at the time. I was so dumbstruck that I could barely hear Todd's commentary in the background. I remember him looking at the mountains in the distance (Throat of the world I believe), and saying: You can climb every mountain and every peak. Everything you see is reachable. This was the beginning of very, very fond memories.
On my way back from school I went to a toy store en route and picked up a copy. At least, that's what I tried to do, but alas, the clerk asked my age and my 12 year old ass tried lying that I was turning 18 in two months. The clerk immediately saw the lies through my braces and zit ridden face and was forced to decline me, as the game was 18+. At home I called my dad and asked if he could pick up a copy for me, which he gladly did, and when he came home he handed me the vacuum sealed plastic disc case. Unfortunately, my dad at the time was dabbling in the illegal world of "obtaining" movies online and before I could break the seal he said he could try "obtaining" it. He said, if he could download it you get the game for free and I bring it back to the store, if I can't download it you get the game for free. It's a win win. After 4 weeks he threw the towel in the ring as he did not manage to "obtain" the game, which was agonizing as all this time the copy was standing on the living room cupboard. I swear I could hear it talk to me at night; (releaaase meeeee).
Anyway, the moment I booted up the game, my best friend was with me and we played together until the section with the tower and the first dragon. This was the most impactful and most joyful video game experience I have ever had in my life. From that day on until the end of time (2017) I would play Skyrim. Some periods more, some periods less, but similar to my Lord of The Rings addiction I would play Skyrim more consistently than I would any other game. Funnily, in these years I think I only racked up a total of about 300 hours, which isn't that much at all. There was just something about the environment, the ambience, and the art style that has left such an everlasting mark on me. I live relatively north, and back in the early 2010s we would have snow every winter which only fueled my Skyrim fanaticism. Combine this with my house being close to the woods, and a wonderful dog who I could take to walk all the time, it felt like I was seeing Skyrim everywhere. It also helped greatly that al my high school friends played the game, so we talked about it every day. Learning secret quests or cave entrances from each other. Someone told me it's a good idea to go into a crypt west of solitude on my Level 9 with dwarven armor, only for me to be beaten to a pulp by a dragon priest in there.
Later on, I would listen to Skyrim ambience when trying to sleep as it made me feel so calm. Hell, I'm listening to Skyrim Night ambience as I'm writing this right now. Tracks like: Solitude, Kyne's Peace, Tundra, and of course Far Horizons, all made me feel incredible. I later found out that Jeremy Soule also wrote the OST for the Harry Potter 3 video game, which is also a childhood favorite. Skyrim music is just so good.
Nowadays, however, I don't feel the same bliss anymore. Whenever I listen to these tracks I feel melancholic more than anything else. When visiting the woods close to my childhood home (currently no longer mine, we moved out years ago), I feel somber. My dog has long since passed and I cannot take him to the woods anymore either. The Skyrim nostalgia that used to make me feel good and positive has made a 180 and instead now makes me feel gloomy, mournful, and incredibly melancholic. The sight of snow still cheers me up and brings me back happy memories from this time, but there has been so little snow here in the past few years that it's not reliable anymore. One of the few things that effectively represses my nostalgia is visiting my childhood forest with my friend (the same friend who I first played Skyrim with), but as repression comes and goes, it doesn't last very long. I can't believe it's already been 12 years since release, and every year feels like it's passing by faster.
While currently my formerly fond memories have become somber, and nostalgia is often guiding my life, no other game has had such a profound impact on me, be it positive or negative. I am now at an age where I'm trying to slowly phase all video games out of my life as to pursue more useful hobbies for my career, yet I am and forever will be grateful for the time I had with them. Most of all, Skyrim.

2024.04.29 10:28 djminger007 CKB: A new chapter in the programmability of bitcoin

This is a really good read I've picked up from Neon in Nervos Nation TG from a Chinese website and the browser has translated it, seems like a good translation from Brave!!! Please be aware there are a few images that cannot be transferred form this article, but if you're not caring about lines of code or any of the schematics, you can give this a good read regardless.

Bullish; Heres the link for those that might want to cross reference

Foreword

In the fourth round of bitcoin halving cycle, the outbreak of the Ordinals agreement and similar agreements was adopted to make the encryption industry aware of the positive externality of the security and ecological development of the bitcoin master network based on the Bitcoin L1 layer of issued assets and transaction assets. Value is the “Uniswap moment” of Bitcoin ecology.
The programmable evolution and iteration of Bitcoin is the result of market governance in the Bitcoin community, not driven by the theory of Holder of BTC, Builder of block space, etc.
At present, by enhancing the programmability of Bitcoin and increasing the utilization rate of the block space of the main network of Bitcoin, it has become a new design space for the consensus of the Bitcoin community.
Unlike Etai and other high-performance public chains, in order to ensure the simplicity and light quantification of UTXO episodes, the design space for the programmability of bitcoins is highly restricted, and the basic constraints are how to use scripts and OP Code to operate UTXO.
The classic Bitcoin programmable program has a state channel ( Lightning Network ), customer end verification (RGB), side chain (Liquid Network, Stacks, RootSock, etc. ), CounterParty, Omni Layer Asser, TaproC, etc. Emerging bitcoin programmability programs since 2023 include Ordinals, BRC20, Runes, Atomicals, Stamps, etc.
After the end of the second wave of inscriptions, a new generation of bitcoin programmability programs and so on emerged, such as CKB's UTXO co-construct binding program, EVM compatible bitcoin L2 program, DriveChain program, etc.
Compared with the EVM compatible bitcoin L2 scheme, CKB(Common Knowledge Base) The Bitcoin Programmability Program is a native, safe, and non-introducing social trust hypothesis solution in the Bitcoin Programmability Modern Design Space. Compared with the DriveChain plan, it does not require any change in the level of the Bitcoin agreement.
In the foreseeable future, the programmable growth curve of Bitcoin will go through an accelerated growth stage, and the assets, users, and applications of Bitcoin ecology will usher in a massive outbreak of martial arts,The UTXO Stack of the CKB ecology will provide new Bitcoin developers with the ability to build protocols using modular stacks. In addition, CKB is exploring the integration of the lightning network with UTXO Stack, using the original programmability of Bitcoin to achieve interoperability between the new agreements.

Programmable naming space for bitcoin

The block chain is a machine for creating trust, and the main Bitcoin network is the No. 0 machine. Like all philosophy in the West is a footnote to Plato, everything in the encrypted world ( assets, narratives, block chain networks, protocols, DAO, etc. ) are derivatives and derivatives of bitcoin.
In the process of coordinated evolution of Bitcoin Maxi and expansionists, from whether the Bitcoin main network supports Turing’s complete struggle to the dispute between the isolation witness program and the large block expansion plan, Bitcoin is constantly split. This is not only creating new encryption projects and encryption community consensus, but also strengthening and consolidating Bitcoin's own community consensus, which is a process of completing self-identification while others are institutionalized.
Due to the mysterious disappearance of Satoshi Zhong, Bitcoin community governance does not exist in the governance structure of the “ enlightened monarchy ” like Taifang, but is a balanced governance model in open games by miners, developers, communities and markets. This gives Bitcoin a community consensus that once formed and is extremely stable.
The characteristics of the current Bitcoin community consensus are: consensus is not command and control, trust minimization, decentralization, anti-censorship, anonymity, open source, open collaboration, licensing exemption, legal neutrality, homogenization, forward compatibility, resources Use minimization, verification > calculation, convergence, transaction volatility、Resist DoS attacks, avoid scramble entry, robustness, consistent incentives, curing, consensus that should not be tampered with, conflicting principles, collaborative advancement, etc. [1]
The current form of the Bitcoin main network can be regarded as an example of the consensus characteristics of the above Bitcoin community. The programmable design space of Bitcoin is also defined by the consensus characteristics of the Bitcoin community.

Programmable classic design space for bitcoin

When other public chains try to be modular, parallel, etc. to explore the design space where the block chain cannot be a triangular solution, the design space of the bitcoin protocol has always focused on scripts, OP Code, and UTXO.
Two typical examples are the two major upgrades to the Bitcoin main network since 2017, Segwit hard fork and Taproot soft fork.
In August 2017, Segwit bifurcated hard, adding 3M blocks outside the main block of 1M to save the signature ( Witness), and setting the weight of the signature data as the main block when calculating the miner’s fee 1/4 to maintain consistency in the cost of spending a UTXO output and creating a UTXO output,Prevent the abuse of UTXO to zero to increase the expansion rate of UTXO sets.
In November 2021, Taproot's soft fork was introduced by introducing Schnorr's multiple signature program to save UTXO's verification time and block space occupied by multiple signatures.
UTXO( The unspent transaction output ) is the basic data structure of the Bitcoin main network, which has atomic, non-homogeneous, and chain-coupled characteristics. Every transaction on the main net of Bitcoin consumes 1 UTXO as input, and creates an integer n new UTXO output. It is generally understood that UTXO can be regarded as a dollar, euro and other banknotes running on the chain. It can cost, change, split, combine, etc., but its minimum atomic unit is Satoshi(sats). 1 UTXO represents the latest state at a particular time. UTXO episode, which represents the latest state of the Bitcoin main network at a certain time.
By maintaining the simplicity, light quantification, and easy verification of the Bitcoin UTXO episode, the state expansion rate of the Bitcoin main network has successfully stabilized at a level compatible with the hardware Moore law, thereby ensuring the participation of the entire Bitcoin network nodes And the robustness of transaction verification.
Correspondingly, the programmable design space of Bitcoin is also constrained by the consensus characteristics of the Bitcoin community. For example, in order to prevent potential security risks, Satoshi Nakamoto decided to remove the OP-CAT operation code in August 2010, which is the key logic for achieving programmability at the complete level of Bitcoin Turing.
Bitcoin's programmable realization path does not use the virtual machine (VM) scheme in the chain like Taifang and Solana, but chooses to use the script and operation code (OP Code) for UXTO, transaction Input field, output field and witness data (Witness).
The main toolboxes for programmability of bitcoin are: multiple signatures, time locks, Hash locks, process control (OP_IF, OP_ELIF). [2]
Under the classic design space, the programmability of bitcoin is very limited. It only supports a few verification procedures, but does not support chain storage and chain calculations, and chain storage and chain calculations are precisely to achieve Turing's complete level programmability. Core functional components.

Programmable Renaissance of Bitcoin

But Bitcoin's programmable design space is not a fixed state. Instead, it is closer to a dynamic spectrum that changes over time.
Unlike the outside world's stereotype that the development of the Bitcoin main network is at a standstill, in the case of various consensus vectors limiting the design space, the development, deployment, adoption, and promotion of the new script and new operation code of the Bitcoin main network are always in progress Times,And at some point even triggered a fork war in the encrypted community ( such as Segwit hard fork ).
Taking the Bitcoin main net script type with degree change as an example, we can clearly perceive the changes. We can divide the scripts used by the Bitcoin main network output type into three categories: original script pubkey, pubkeyhash, enhanced script multisig, scripthash, witness script witness_v0_keyhash, witness_v0_scripthash, witness_v1_taproot.
From the change trend chart of the entire historical output type of the Bitcoin main network, we observe a basic fact: the programmability enhancement of the Bitcoin main network is a long-term historical trend, enhancing the share of scripts in the original script, and witnessing the script being swallowed The share of the enhanced script. The Ordinals agreement based on Segweit's enhanced script and Taproot's witness script opened a wave of Bitcoin L1 asset issuance, which is both a continuation of the programmable historical trend of the Bitcoin main network and a new stage of programmability of the Bitcoin main network.
The Bitcoin main network operation code also has an evolutionary process similar to the Bitcoin main net script.
For example, the Ordinals agreement is to achieve its functional design by combining the Bitcoin main net script taproot script-path spend and operation code (OP_FALSE, OP_IF, OP_PUSH, OP_ENDIF).
Before the official birth of the Ordinals agreement, the programmable classic plan of bitcoin mainly has the state channel ( Lightning Network ), customer verification (RGB), side chain (Liquid Network, Stacks, RootSock, etc.), CounterParty, etc.
The Ordinals agreement sequences the smallest atomized unit of UXTO (Satoshi), and then inserts the data content in the Witness field of UTXO, and is associated with a specific deafness after sequencing, and then the chain indexer is responsible for indexing and Perform programmable operations of these data states. This new bitcoin programmability paradigm is vividly likened to “ Golden Eagle ”.
The new paradigm of the Ordinals agreement has inspired a wider range of encrypted communities to use the Bitcoin main network block space to distribute, cast and trade NFT collections and MeMe-type Token(, which can be collectively referred to as the inscription ). For the first time in life, you have your own Bitcoin address.
However, the programmability of the Ordinals agreement inherits the limited programmability of Bitcoin and only supports the three functional methods of Deploy, Mint and Transfer. This allows the Ordinals agreement and its followers BRC20, Runes, Atomicals, Stamps, etc. to apply only to the application scenes where assets are issued. Support for DeFi application scenes such as transactions and loans that require state calculation and state storage is relatively weak.
Liquidity is the source of vitality for assets. Due to the natural characteristics of the programmability agreement of the Ordinals type bitcoin, the reissue of the inscription assets and the provision of light liquidity affect the value of the entire life cycle of the inscription assets.
Moreover, the Ordinals and BRC20 agreements are also suspected of misusing the witness data space and objectively causing the explosion of the main network of Bitcoin.
As a reference system, the main sources of the Pacific Master Network Gas fee are DEX transaction Gas fee, L2 data availability fee, and stable currency transfer Gas fee. Compared with the Taifang main network, the income type of the Bitcoin main network is single, cyclical, and the volatility rate is large.
The programmability of the Bitcoin main network cannot yet meet the demand for the space supply side of the Bitcoin main network block. To achieve a stable and sustainable block space income state with the Pacific Master Network, the original DEX, stable currency and L2 of the Bitcoin ecology are required. The prerequisite for the realization of these agreements and applications is that Bitcoin programmable agreements need to provide Turing's complete programming capabilities.
Therefore, how to achieve the complete programmability of Bitcoin Turing in its original place, while constraining the negative impact on the size of the Bitcoin main network, has become a current manifestation of Bitcoin ecology.

Bitcoin programmable CKB scheme

At present, the complete programmable programs for the original Turing of Bitcoin are: BitVM, RGB, CKB, EVM compatible with Rollup L2, DriveChain, etc.
BitVM uses a group of OP Code in Bitcoin to build and non-logical doors, and then builds other basic logical doors with non-logical doors. Eventually, these basic logical gate circuits construct a VM native to Bitcoin. This principle is somewhat similar to the array of the Qin king of the famous science fiction novel 《 Tripartite 》. There are specific scenes in the TV series of the same name adapted by Netflix. The paper of the BitVM program has been completely open source, and is highly expected by the encrypted community. However, its engineering implementation is very difficult. It is difficult to land in the short term when it encounters problems such as data management costs under the chain, the number of participants, challenges-response interactions, and the complexity of the Hash function.
The RGB protocol uses customer end verification and one-time sealing technology to achieve the complete programmability of Turing. The core design idea is to store the status and logic of the smart contract in the output of the bitcoin transaction (Transaction)On the implementation of the maintenance and data storage of the smart contract code under the chain,The main network of bitcoins serves as the commitment layer of the final state.
EVM compatible with Rollup L2 is a quick plan to rebuild Bitcoin L2 with a mature Rollup L2 stack. However, given that the Bitcoin main network is currently unable to support fraud certification/validity certification, Rollup L2 needs to introduce the social trust assumption ( over-sign ).
DriveChain is a side chain expansion plan. The basic design idea is to use Bitcoin as the bottom layer of the block chain, and to create side chains by locking Bitcoin to achieve two-way interoperability between Bitcoin and side chains. The realization of the DriveChain project requires agreement-level changes to Bitcoin, which will deploy the BIP300 and BIP301 proposed by the development team to the main network.
The above Bitcoin programmability plan is either extremely difficult to land in the short term, or introduces too many social trust assumptions, or requires agreement-level changes to Bitcoin.

Bitcoin L1 Asset Agreement: RGB++

In response to the shortcomings and problems of the programmability agreement in Bitcoin above, the CKB team gave a relatively balanced solution. The solution consists of Bitcoin L1 asset agreement RGB++, Bitcoin L2 Raas service provider UTXO Stack and interoperability agreement integrated with the lightning network.
Original language of UXTO: tied to the same organization
RGB++ is a bitcoin L1 asset issuance agreement based on RGB design ideas. The project of RGB++ was realized, while inheriting the technical original words of CKB and RBG. It uses RGB's “ one-time seal ” and customer end verification technology, and at the same time tied up the UTXO( expanded version of Cell) that maps Bitcoin UTXO to the CKB main network, and uses CKB and Bitcoin chains Script constraints to verify the accuracy of status calculations and the validity of ownership changes.
In other words, RGB++ uses Cell on the CKB chain to express the ownership relationship of RGB assets. It moves the asset data originally stored at the end of the RGB customer to the CKB chain and expresses it in the form of Cell. It establishes a mapping relationship with Bitcoin UTXO, allowing CKB to act as an open database and chain of RGB assets. Settlement layer, replacing RGB client,Achieve more reliable data hosting and RGB contract interaction.
Cell is the basic data storage unit of CKB and can contain various data types, such as CKBytes, tokens, TypeScript codes or sequencing data ( such as the JSON string ). Each Cell contains a small program called Lock Script, which defines the owner of Cell. Lock Script not only supports the scripts of the Bitcoin main network, such as multiple signatures, Hash locks, time locks, etc., but also allows a Type Script to enforce specific rules to control its use. This allows developers to customize smart contracts according to different usages, such as issuing NFT, airdropping tokens, AMM Swap, etc.
The RGB protocol adds the root of the transaction under the chain to a UTXO'output by using the OP RETURN operating code, and uses UTXO as a container of status information. Then, RGB++ map this state information container constructed by RGB to Cell in CKB, keep the state information in Cell's type and data, and use this container UTXO as the Cell state owner.
As shown in the figure above, a complete RGB++ transaction life cycle is as follows:
  1. Calculation under the chain. When initiating a Tx bound by the same configuration, first choose a new UTXO btc_utxo#2 of the Bitcoin main network as a one-time sealed container, and then bind the UTXO btc_utxo#1 of the original Cell co-construct under the chain Btc_utxo#2、Using the original Cell as a CKB TX to enter the new Cel as an output to perform Hashi calculations to generate a commitment.
  2. Submit Bitcoin transactions. RGB++ initiated a Tx of the main bitcoin network, which will use btc_utxo#1 bound to the original Cell co-organizer as an input, and use OP RETURN to use the promise generated in the previous step as an output.
  3. Submit CKB transactions. CKB Tx calculated and generated under the chain before the execution of the CKB main network.
  4. Verify on the chain. The CKB main network runs a Bitcoin main network light client to verify the state change of the entire system. This is very different from RGB. The P2P mechanism used in the verification of RGB's status change requires that the initiator of Tx and the receiver be online at the same time and only interactively verify the relevant TX spectrum.
Based on the above-mentioned tied logic to achieve RGB++, compared with the RGB agreement, while allowing part of the privacy, some new features were obtained: enhanced customer end verification of block chains, transaction folding, no ownership contract Shared status and non-interactive transfer.
In addition, RGB++ also inherited the state space privatization characteristics of CKB main network Cell. In addition to paying the miner's fees for using Bitcoin main network block space, each TX also needs to pay for leasing Cell status space. The cost + this part of the cost returns to + after Cell consumption. Cell's state space privatization is a defense mechanism invented by CKB to deal with the explosion of the block chain main network. The leasers of Cell state space need to pay continuously during their use ( in the form of CKB circulation tokens inflation Value ). This makes the RGB++ agreement a responsible programmable expansion agreement for the main network of Bitcoin, which can limit the abuse of the block space of the main network of Bitcoin to a certain extent.
To trust L1<>L2 interoperability: Leap
The tied tie of the same structure of RGB++ is a common logic for the realization of a common atom, which either occurs at the same time or flips at the same time without intermediate states. All RGB++ transactions will appear simultaneously on the BTC and CKB chains. The former is compatible with the transactions of the RGB agreement, while the latter replaces the process of customer end verification. The user only needs to check the relevant transactions on the CKB to verify whether the calculation of the status of the RGB++ transaction is correct. However, users may also use the transaction on the CKB chain as the verification basis, and use the local Tx map of UTXO to independently verify the RGB++ transaction. (Part of the functions such as transaction folding still need to rely on CKB block Hashi for anti-double flower verification )
Therefore, the asset cross-chain between RGB++ and the CKB main network does not rely on the introduction of additional social trust assumptions, such as the relay layer of the cross-chain bridge, the centralized multi-sign vault of EVM compatible Rollup, etc. RGB++ Assets can be transferred from the Bitcoin main network to the CKB main network, or from the CKB main network to the Bitcoin main network. CKB calls this cross-chain workflow Leap.
RGB++ and CKB are loosely coupled. In addition to the assets supporting the Bitcoin L 1st floor ( are not limited to the original assets of the RGB++ agreement, including assets issued by Runes, Atomicals, Taproot Asset and other agreements )Leap to CKB, RGB++The other support Leap to Cardan. At the same time, RGB++ also supports Bitcoin L2 assets Leap to Bitcoin main network.
Examples of extended functions and applications of RGB++
The RGB++ agreement originally supported the issuance of homogenized tokens and NFT.
The homogenized token standard of RGB++ is xUDT, and the NFT standard is Spore.
The xUDT standard supports a variety of homogenized tokens issuance methods, including but not limited to centralized distribution, airdrops, subscriptions, etc. The total amount of tokens can also be selected between the upper limit and the upper limit. For the tokens with a preset upper limit, a status sharing scheme can be used to verify whether the total number of each issuance is less than or equal to the preset upper limit.
Spore in the NFT standard will store all metadata on the chain, achieving 100% data availability security. Assets issued by the Spore Agreement DOB(Digital Object, digital object), similar to Ordinals NFT, but with richer characteristics and play methods.
As a customer verification agreement, the RGB protocol naturally supports state channels and lightning networks, but is limited by the ability to calculate the script of Bitcoin, it is very difficult to bring assets other than BTC into the lightning network. However, the RGB++ protocol can use CKB's Turing Complete Script System to realize the status channel and lightning network of CKB-based RGB++ assets.
With the above standards and functions, the RGB++ agreement is not limited to simple asset issuance scenarios like other Bitcoin host network programmable agreements, but supports complex applications such as asset transactions, asset lending, and CDP stabilizer coins. For example, RGB++ combined with the tied logic of the Bitcoin main network, the PSBT script can realize a DEX form of order book grid.

Bitcoin L2 RaaS service provider: UTXO Stack

UTXO is the same as Bitcoin L2 Vs EVM compatible Bitcoin Rollup L2
In the market competition for the programmatic realization of Bitcoin in Turing, DriveChain and the restoration of OPCAT operating codes and other programs require very large uncertainties and unpredictability due to changes in the Bitcoin agreement layer, UTXO compatible with Bitcoin L2 and EVM in the realist route is more recognized by developers and capital. UTXO is also composed of Bitcoin L2, represented by CKB. EVM is compatible with Bitcoin Rollup L2, represented by Merlin Chain and BOB.
To be practical, the Bitcoin L1 asset issuance agreement has just begun to form a local consensus in the Bitcoin community, and the community consensus of Bitcoin L2 is at an earlier stage. But in this frontier area, 《 Bitcoin magazine 》 and Pantera have tried to set the definition range for Bitcoin L2 by drawing on the conceptual structure of Taifang L2.
In their eyes, Bitcoin L2 should have the following three characteristics:
In other words, they believe that Bitcoin L2 should have data availability verification based on the Bitcoin main network, escape cabin mechanism, BTC as Bitcoin L2 Gas tokens, etc. In this way, in their subconscious mind, the EVM compatible L2 paradigm was used as the standard template for Bitcoin L2.
However, the weak state calculation and verification capabilities of the Bitcoin main network cannot achieve Feature 1 and Feature 2 in the short term. In this case, EVM compatible L2 is a chain expansion plan that is completely dependent on social trust assumptions,Although they are writing in white papers that future integration of BitVM for data availability verification and joint mining with the Bitcoin main network enhances safety.
Of course, this does not mean that these EVM compatibility Rollup L2 is fake Bitcoin L2, but that they do not strike a good balance between security, distrust and scalability. Moreover, the Bitcoin ecology introduces a complete solution with the Turing of Taifang, which is easily regarded by Bitcoin Maxi as appeasement for the expansionist route.
Therefore, UTXO and Bitcoin L2 are naturally superior to EVM compatible Rollup L2 in terms of orthodox and Bitcoin community consensus.
Characteristics of UTXO Stack: Fractal Bitcoin Main Network
If the Episcopal L2 is based on the fractal of the Taifang, then the Bitcoin L2 should be the fractal of Bitcoin.
The UTXO Stack of the CKB ecology activates UTXO bitcoin L2 for the developer's key and originally integrates the RGB++ protocol capability. This allows seamless interoperability between the Bitcoin main network and UTXO developed using UTXO Stack and Bitcoin L2. UTXO Stack supports the pledge of BTC, CKB and BTC L1 assets to ensure the safety of UTXO co-constructor Bitcoin L2.
UTXO Stack currently supports the free flow and interoperability of RGB++ assets between the Bitcoin Lightning Network-CKB Lightning Network-UTXO Stack parallel L2s. In addition, UTXO Stack also supports Runes, Atomicals, Taproot Asset, Stamps and other UTXO-based Bitcoin L1 programmability protocol assets to flow freely and interoperate between UTXO Stack parallel L2s-CKB Lightning Network-Bitcoin Lightning Network.
UTXO Stack introduced the modular paradigm into the construction field of Bitcoin L2, and cleverly bypassed the calculation of the Bitcoin main network status and the verification of data availability with the tie of the same structure. In this modular stack, the role of Bitcoin is the consensus layer and the settlement layer. The role of CKB is the data availability layer, while the roles of UTXO Stack parallel L2 are the execution layer.

Bitcoin's programmable growth curve and CKB's future

Bitcoin's programmable growth curve and CKB's future

In fact, there is an inherent tension between Bitcoin’s digital gold narrative and Bitcoin’s programmable narrative. Some OGs in the Bitcoin community regard the Bitcoin L1 programmable agreement that has emerged since 23 years as a new round of Bitcoin main network. Dust attack boom. To some extent, the saliva war between the core developer of Bitcoin, Luke, and the fans of BRC20, is the third world war between Bitcoin maxi and the expanders following the battle for the completeness of Turing and the block.
But there is actually another perspective that regards bitcoin as APP Chain for digital gold. From this perspective, it is the positioning of the bottom layer of digital gold to centralize the ledger, which shapes the shape of the current Bitcoin main network UTXO set and the characteristics of programmable protocols. But if I remember correctly, Satoshi Nakamoto's vision is to make Bitcoin a P2P electronic currency. The demand for programmability in digital gold is safes and vaults, and the demand for programmability in currency is the central bank-commercial bank circulation network. Therefore, the programmability enhancement agreement of Bitcoin is not an outrageous behavior, but a return to the vision of Satoshi Nakamoto.
Drawing on Gartner Hype Cycle's research method, we can divide the Bitcoin programmability programs into 5 stages

The future of CKB: OP Stack+Eigenlayer

Whether it is EVM compatible with Bitcoin Rollup L2, UTXO co-constructor Bitcoin L2, or Drive Chain and other new paradigms, Turing’s complete programmable implementation of various programs ultimately points to the Bitcoin main network as a consensus and settlement layer.
Just as the evolution of convergence has occurred repeatedly in nature, it can be expected that the trend of the complete and programmable development of the Bitcoin eco-turing will show a certain degree of consistency with the Episcopal ecology in some respects. But this consistency will not simply be based on Taifang's technology stack to Bitcoin ecology, but on the use of Bitcoin's original technology stack ( programmability based on UTXO ) to achieve a similar ecological structure.
CKB's UTXO Stack is very similar to Optimism's OP Stack positioning. OP Stack maintains strong equivalence and consistency with the Israel-Pacific main network at the executive level, and UTXO Stack maintains strong equivalence with the Bitcoin main network at the executive level. And consistency. At the same time, UTXO Stack, like the OP Stack structure, is a parallel structure.
In the future, UTXO Stack will introduce RaaS services such as shared servers, shared security, shared liquidity, and shared verification sets to further reduce the cost and difficulty of developers to start UTXO co-constructor Bitcoin L2. At present, there are a large number of projects such as the Decentralized Stabilization Coin Agreement, AMM DEX, Borrowing Agreement, and Autonomous World. It is planned to use UTXO Stack to build UTXO co-constructor Bitcoin L2 as its bottom consensus infrastructure.
Unlike other Bitcoin security abstract agreements, the CKB's consensus mechanism is a PoW consensus mechanism consistent with the Bitcoin main network, and the machine algorithm maintains the consistency of the consensus ledger. But there is some difference between CKB's tokens economics and Bitcoin. In order to maintain the consistency of block space production and consumption behavior incentives, Bitcoin chose to introduce weights and vByte mechanism to calculate state space usage fees, and CKB chose to privatize state space.
CKB's tokens economics consists of two parts: basic distribution and secondary distribution. All CKBs issued on a basic basis are fully rewarded to miners. The purpose of CKB issued in the second level is to collect state rent. The specific distribution ratio of the issued in the second level depends on the current way in which CKBs are used in the network.
For example, suppose that 50% of all circulating CKBs are used for storage, 30% are locked in NervosDAO, and 20% are fully mobile. Then, 50% of ( issued in the second level, that is, the rent of the storage state ), will be allocated to miners, 30% will be allocated to NervosDAO depositors, and the remaining 20% will be allocated to the Treasury Fund.
This tokens economic model can constrain overall growth, coordinate the interests of different network participants ( including users, miners, developers, and tokens holders ), and create an incentive structure that is beneficial to everyone. This is different from other L1 situations in the market.
In addition, CKB allows a single Cell to occupy a maximum state space of 1,000 bytes, which gives the NFT assets on the CKB some other block chain similar assets that do not have strange characteristics, such as the original portability of Gas fees, the programmability of state space, etc. These bizarre characteristics make UTXO Stack very suitable for building digital physical reality for the infrastructure of autonomous world projects.
UTXO Stack allows Bitcoin L2 developers to use BTC, CKB, and other Bitcoin L1 asset pledges to participate in their network consensus.
Summary
It is inevitable that Bitcoin will develop to the stage of Turing's complete programmable program. But Turing’s complete programmability will not happen to the Bitcoin main network, but under the chain (RGB, BitVM) or Bitcoin L2 (CKB, EVM Rollup, DriveChain).
According to historical experience, one of these agreements will eventually develop into a monopolistic standard agreement.
There are two key factors that determine the competitiveness of Bitcoin programmable agreements: 1. Realization of BTC's free flow between L1<>L2 without relying on additional social trust assumptions; 2. Attract developers, funds and users of sufficient scale into their L2 ecology.
As a programmable solution for bitcoin, CKB has used the co-constructed binding +CKB network to replace the customer verification solution to achieve the free flow of Bitcoin L1 assets between L1<>L2, and Does not rely on additional social trust assumptions. Moreover, the benefit is in the spatial privatization characteristics of CKB Cell, and RBG++ does not bring pressure to the Bitcoin main network to explode like other Bitcoin programmability agreements.
Recently, through RGB++~ the first batch of asset releases, the ecological thermal start was initially completed, and the new users and a group of new developers were 150,000 new users for the CKB ecological success OnB. For example, OpenStamp, a one-stop solution for Stamps ecology in Bitcoin L1, has chosen to use UTXO Stack to construct UTXOs serving Stamps ecology and Bitcoin L2.
In the next stage, CKB will focus on ecological application construction, realizing BTC's free flow between L1<>L2, and integrating lightning networks, and strive to become a programmable layer of future bitcoins.

2024.04.29 10:27 Woodlarkers Will o' the Wisp Sighting (Southern UK)

Full details at A Sighting of Will O' the Wisp (woodlarking.co.uk)
You know you hear those tales about staying out of the woods at night? What follows is a true story which happened in southern UK. It’s a bit of a read but I think you'll be glad you did when you get to the end. Sometimes, experiences can only be described as falling outside the realms of normality and it’s like you’re being given a glimpse into another world.
We had some time to kill between running errands one evening, so headed up to a high-spot overlooking the forest while we waited. It was a couple of hours after sunset and we hoped to see some wildlife that would normally get scared off during daylight.
There were road blocks on some of the lanes because of tree felling so, apart from us, the carpark was completely deserted and this viewpoint was just ours for tonight. It’s next to an old holloway, a prehistoric trackway, and the area is littered with ancient burial mounds and the remains of occupation from the Iron Age, Roman and Saxon times. This place is old.
We stopped the van and stepped out, taking in the view ahead of us. Grassy downland sloped gently towards the forest’s edge at the bottom of the hill where weak moonlight bounced off a layer of low-lying mist. Ahead, the whole woods was laid out for us to see - a large expanse of dark forest with jagged treetops visible against the slightly lighter skyline.
My husband, A, had brought a high powered torch to shine into the edges of the woods to see if any eyes lit up from the wildlife. It’s always amazing to shine a light into darkness and see the eyes of rabbits, deer, or hares shining back at you. Tonight though, there was nothing which is incredibly unusual. We could only hear distant tawny owls calling every now and again, and see the occasional silent, dark shape glide in front of us. The place felt a little uneasy, watchful.
Nearby on my left, there was an occasional creak of something rubbing, like a hanging sign being swayed by the wind. We know that patch inside out and there’s nothing there to make that noise. Besides, there wasn’t even a breeze. A half joked about it being a ghostly gibbet, and actually, that's exactly what it did sound like. There are often strange things at the woods. You sort of learn not to question it too much, and just accept things for what they are. I didn't really feel spooked, just a bit aware of it – particularly as the sound was centred at an ancient crossroads.
Sitting in the van, we listened for sounds of wildlife. Even the owls had quietened and everything became still. We sat in the silence until, suddenly, a wind whipped up from behind us from out of nowhere through the trees. As soon as it had started, it was gone. It felt odd, like something passing through. Then, back to quiet.
With our eyes tuned into the dark we sat looking over the woodland. There was a strange noise to the right, like an animal calling, but nothing recognisable. The sound was followed by snapping branches. We know most woodland animal calls but have no idea what this was. So, we just kept cool about that too. Yes, we said … probably just some kind of owl ...
A shone his torch in the direction of the sounds, only for it to go dead straight away. It had had brand new batteries that evening, and had been working perfectly when we first arrived. It’s never failed before (or since for that matter). So, the odd feeling stayed.
There were a couple of dim lights on the horizon in the distance and over to the right was a tiny section of far away road with occasional glimpses of tiny headlights or the red of tail lights briefly showing. The main view ahead was literally just darkness.
As we stared into the blackness a small light came into view near the treetops. It looked reminiscent of a glow worm, or an ember from a fire that persists into the night sky, only brighter. It moved in one direction, kind of higgledy-piggledy, and made its way slowly but with purpose.
It started from nowhere in the woods, just appeared on the left within our field of view and slowly moved to the right. Strangely, it appeared to be broadly following the route of an old trackway which only exists today in disjointed fragments of paths, and tell-tale lines of trees marching through modern day fields. The light followed the route smoothly for a while, and then stopped. When it stopped, it seemed to glow brighter.
It was unusual because it was constant and unobscured, not broken like it would be if it was carried by a walker, but high up like it was floating just above the treetops. The way it stayed constant made it seem certain it was a lot higher than the paths in the woods or it would have been obscured by the trees. This was bright, and close. It was within the area of the woodland, but not on the ground …
It was staying in one spot now. As I stared at it, I began to realise that it looked as if it was moving in a different way, swaying. I doubted myself at first because there were so few points of reference against the blank black darkness of the trees. Were my eyes playing tricks? I looked at it a little closer. Minutes passed. No doubt about it, it was swaying. I saw A reach for his glasses, and knew he was watching it too. We looked at each other. “That’s a bit weird …”
The movements looked strange, and I began to wonder more about the source of it, running through possibilities in my mind. I dismissed it being attached to a building and besides, in that direction there are only farms much further away, and on much lower ground. This was high, pretty much at the same level as us, parked up on the hill. Could it be a person carrying a torch? No. It simply wasn't moving in the right way, and besides, it was unwaveringly pointing towards us. It didn’t change angle, or dim. It just didn't fit.
We both agreed it was swaying. A big slow sway, in a large arc of several metres at least. As we stared at it, it continued swaying from left to right, right to left, left to right, like a pendulum. Rhythmic. It made no sense. Although the light looked very powerful, it wasn't illuminating anything at all. It itself was highly visible and impossible to miss, but it wasn’t illuminating any branches surrounding it, a trunk below it, or any other trees around it. There was nothing showing but the light itself.
It was a light that drew you in because it couldn't be explained away. Mesmerising. We both know these woods really well, at all times of the day and night, on the paths and further off-track. We know the terrain and the tall trees - Douglas firs, scots pine, beech and oaks. Even during the winter the path can't be seen from where we were, but the tree tops can. This light was definitely at tree canopy height, yet not suspended from the trees.
As time went on, nothing changed. We watched it for nearly half an hour. The light just continued to sway and shine unabated until, eventually, time dictated that we needed to get back on our way. A switched on the engine and the headlights ready to move and, almost instantly, the light was extinguished. There was no dimming, no hesitation - it was simply on, and then it was off. Bizarre. It was as if the connection had been severed and the moment was over.
We drove down the lane to the far end, following the edge of the woodland for nearly a mile, then turned round and drove back past where we’d been parked, and on towards our destination. As we passed the trees, especially at the area of the carpark, we looked for the light but there was simply nothing at all.
It’s taken a couple of months to process and make sense of it, but the only explanation we can come to is that the light over the woods really was a will o’ the wisp.

~ General Recommendations (All Consoles) For Anyone Who Can't Decide ~

First off, I won't recommend big or famous games like Final Fantasy or Persona, this is more for lesser know, hidden gems, or just games where it's hard to find someone talking about them.

[Valkyria Chronicles]

[Valkyria Chronicles 4]

This one is really hard to explain through words alone, but just in case, the VC series is a World War 2 military setting story, where you act as the lead of a squad and take mission to drive back the enemy. The story is drama heavy and the gameplay is tactical turn-based, but it's mixed with real-time third person shooter.
You can also make your own army by recruiting different types of solders, training them and upgrading their gear. From rifles to tanks, this is a game you have to experience to understand.

[Atelier Ryza]

A great and fun series that really can't be summed up in a short description. So to give a more detailed explanation and to save on save; if you're interested in this series, then check this "Where to start" thread about the series:
(Link to "Where do I start with the Atelier series")

[WitchSpring R]

If you're a fan of the Atelier series, or just want to play a really well made and wholesome turn-based JRPG, then this is an easy choice. A great game with many optional bosses, dungeons to explore, and pets to collect and even use as mounts. The story is very well paced and always keep the story moving forward that it won't take you 20 to 27 hours to finish, or a bit longer depending how much of side content you'll go for. But above all, the main character is loveable and so are the supporting case.
The story isn't deep or complex, but also it's not as chill or relaxing as an Atelier series. There are stakes and there are a lot of plot twists, but it is all well done for an indie developer.

[SD GUNDAM G Generation Cross Rays]

You want a Tactical Mecha game focused on the Gundam universe, but mainly the AU era, with great graphics/animation, crazy amount of customization and days worth of playtime ? That's a very specific request, but here you go.
Cross Rays brings you amazing Metal on Metal smack down! with a huge (and I mean huge) list of Mechs to develop, evolve, capture, fuse, exchange, and unlock throughout a long and satisfying story campaign, and a customization system deep and varied enough to lose days of your life on. You can even customize your original characters, and even choose the OST for each individual attack for each mech.
With multiple difficulties from the get go, and more unlocked once you finish the game, a full playthrough (not 100%) just through the story missions, is easily 100+ hours, but since the game is built on a missions based system, where you can choose to play any story at any time and switch from series to another at your will, you can at your own pace, and there is no need to finish everything since because you can simply stop when you have had enough.
If you're looking for a deep tactical combat, this isn't it, but if you're looking for a trip through some of the best stories in the Gundam universe, and one of the best Gundam/Mecha games with fantastic animations and deep and expansive customization, this is it. And now, it's Dirt Cheap for the amount of content it has ($9.99)

[LIVE A LIVE]

The original SNES game is already a classic game in the genre, and this remake elevated it even higher. Great animation, fun combat system, add great voice acting, 8 main characters to choose from, each in their own time period, from the stone age, to futuristic space age. A true gem of the past that has been polished and is now shining than ever before.
Finally, the music. The reason I left this to the last is because if you are someone who loves JRPG soundtracks, this game is a MUST play, forget the graphics, forget the story, forget the gameplay. The music in this is AMAZING! It alone is worth the full price of the game let alone the now that it's on sale.

[Legend of Mana Remaster]

A Fantastic game in everything except it's combat, which is average. Though with this remaster, you can even turn off combat any time you want. The remaster in itself is great, polishing up the visuals and adding a ENTIRE orchestral version for each track in the game, and this is a game with an amazing soundtrack by Yoko Shimomura. So now you can switch between the original OST and the new orchestral one at any time.
The game follows an open-world concept with lots of freedom and giving you the choice on where to place each city/kingdom/dungeon on the map, and depending on how you do it, you'll unlock better weapons, items, quests, and so on.
It's a great game that you need to experience to know how good it is.

[Ys series]

This is a case of a whole series is filled with great games, it's really hard to go wrong here.
But if you're going to choose one, then this one is an easy pick. Fantastic soundtrack ? check! Great Smooth Action gameplay ? check! Dogi the wall breaker ? check! Base building and crafting ? check! and check! So if you're looking amazing music while you hack and slash your way through monsters and bosses, then Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is easily your go to game.

As always, please do add your own recommendations, and let me know if there is mistake or if something was missing, and have a nice day.

[Dragon's Dogma 2] platinum # 122 The controversial sequel to the cult classic has all the charm and problems of the original.
Game Rating - 7.5/10: All the controversy aside (which is justified) the game is still as fun as the first. Unique gameplay being the highlight just as before keeps things from getting too stale. Had this game come out 2-6 years after the original it would have been an amazing follow up. Unfortunately it took over a decade. The game has the same problems as the first, such as a lack of enemy variety, confusing quest lines, repetitive environments, and bland storyline and characters. Dragon's Dogma 2, much like the first, feels like it has the potential to be an all time great rpg with a few tweaks in a sequel. However this was the sequel and not sure there will be a 3rd. Ultimately I say it's a fun game like the first, but if you were not a fan of the original cult classic you can wait until this game is cheap or even skip it.
Platinum Fun Rating - 6.5/10: lots of missable trophies. Convoluted and tedious solutions are required for far too many trophies. Would be near impossible to get without a guide. Surprised it has as high a completion rate as it does on psnprofiles. Luckily it doesn't require you to truly 100% the game and being required to do some of the post end game stuff opens up the more interesting parts of the game you might have missed otherwise, like the unmoored world.

Demystifying Scams: Understanding What They Are and Why Dexaran is Not One
https://preview.redd.it/tftnnb7vldxc1.png?width=2048&format=png&auto=webp&s=e904551418c0f882ab66f81a11e1cc0d844f2cfe
In the cryptocurrency world, scams are like chameleons, constantly changing their colors and shapes to deceive unsuspecting investors. They promise the moon and the stars, but all too often, they deliver nothing but disappointment and loss.
But what exactly is a scam? A scam is a deceptive scheme designed to cheat people out of their hard-earned money or assets. They come in many forms, from the classic Ponzi scheme to the more sophisticated phishing attacks targeting your digital wallet.
In the midst of this murky landscape, there are shining beacons of light like Dexaran. A revered figure in the Ethereum Classic (ETC) community, Dexaran is a developer extraordinaire known for his groundbreaking contributions to the ERC-223 token standard and the Callisto Network. Despite his stellar reputation, Dexaran has faced baseless accusations of being a scammer.
So, why is Dexaran not a scammer? Unlike scams, which thrive on deception and false promises, Dexaran's work is transparent and rooted in a genuine desire to innovate and improve the blockchain ecosystem. His contributions have pushed the boundaries of what’s possible and inspired trust and confidence in the community.
In the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrency, it's essential to separate scams from legitimate projects. Look for transparency, a solid team, and a clear value proposition. And remember, not everything that glitters is gold. With a discerning eye and a bit of research, you can navigate the crypto landscape with confidence and avoid the pitfalls of scams.
Scams prey on the unsuspecting and the uninformed, promising quick riches and easy money. They often use fear and greed to manipulate their victims, playing on their emotions to extract money or personal information.
One common type of scam is the Ponzi scheme, in which early investors are paid returns with money from new investors rather than from the scheme’s profits. These schemes eventually collapse when there are not enough new investors to pay the returns owed to existing investors.
Another type of scam is the fake ICO, where scammers create a fake cryptocurrency and sell it to investors, promising high returns. Once they have collected enough money, they disappear with the funds, leaving investors with worthless tokens.
Phishing attacks are also common in the cryptocurrency world. Scammers use fake websites or emails to trick people into revealing their private keys or other sensitive information. Once they have this information, they can steal the victim's cryptocurrency.
In the face of these threats, it is important to stay vigilant and protect yourself against scams. Always research before investing; never invest more than you can afford to lose. Use secure wallets and exchanges, and be wary of unsolicited messages or emails asking for your personal information.
Dexaran is a shining example of a developer who has contributed positively to the cryptocurrency community. His work has helped to improve the security and functionality of the Ethereum Classic blockchain, and he continues to be a respected figure in the community.
In conclusion, scams are a real threat in the cryptocurrency world, but with knowledge and caution, they can be avoided. By understanding scams and how they operate, you can protect yourself and your investments against fraud and deception. And remember, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Stay safe, stay informed, and happy investing!

Quantum software solutions represent a paradigm shift in how we approach computation and problem-solving. Unlike classical computing, which operates on binary bits, quantum computing leverages the principles of quantum mechanics to process data using quantum bits, or qubits. These qubits exhibit properties such as superposition and entanglement, enabling quantum computers to explore multiple possibilities simultaneously and perform computations at a scale and speed that is beyond the reach of classical computers.

One of the most promising applications of quantum software solutions lies in optimization problems. Traditional optimization algorithms struggle to find optimal solutions in complex, high-dimensional spaces, such as those encountered in logistics, finance, and supply chain management. Quantum algorithms, such as the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) and the Quantum Annealing Optimization Algorithm, excel at navigating these intricate landscapes, offering significant speedups and efficiencies over classical methods.
In the realm of cryptography and cybersecurity, quantum software solutions present both challenges and opportunities. On one hand, quantum computers have the potential to break traditional encryption schemes, posing a threat to data security and privacy. On the other hand, quantum cryptography offers unbreakable encryption methods based on the principles of quantum mechanics, ensuring secure communication channels resistant to eavesdropping and tampering.
Machine learning and artificial intelligence are also poised to benefit from quantum software solutions. Quantum algorithms, such as the Quantum Support Vector Machine (QSVM) and the Quantum Neural Network (QNN), offer the potential to accelerate training processes, improve model performance, and tackle complex pattern recognition tasks. By leveraging the inherent parallelism and probabilistic nature of quantum computing, these algorithms pave the way for new advancements in AI-driven applications.
Moreover, quantum software solutions have the potential to revolutionize scientific research and discovery. Quantum simulators enable scientists to model and simulate complex quantum systems with unprecedented accuracy, offering insights into phenomena that are difficult or impossible to study using classical methods. From quantum chemistry and materials science to fundamental physics and cosmology, quantum computing opens new frontiers for exploration and understanding.
Despite the immense promise of quantum software solutions, significant challenges remain on the path to widespread adoption. Building and maintaining stable qubits, mitigating errors, and scaling quantum systems are among the key technical hurdles that must be overcome. Moreover, the shortage of skilled quantum software engineers and the need for quantum-safe programming languages and development tools pose additional barriers to entry.
Nevertheless, the rapid pace of research and development in the field of quantum computing bodes well for the future of quantum software solutions. As quantum hardware continues to evolve and quantum algorithms mature, the potential for transformative impact across industries grows exponentially. In this era of quantum revolution, the journey towards harnessing the full power of quantum software solutions has only just begun, promising to reshape the way we compute, communicate, and innovate in the years to come.

2024.04.29 09:33 weadoe My review of Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers

I'm sorry this is long, please indulge me, and of course, these are my opinions and I know it's quite negative, but I need to get my thoughts out for it, since I'm very passionate about this one.
Here goes.
Whoever made this game feels extrememly out of touch with the reality of kart racers, and having played it for the whole weekend now, I have a lot to say about it.
Let's start at the tutorial: too long, doesn't even teach you properly regardless. The rubberbanding tether is glossed over, only 1 of the multiple high concept items is explained (and poorly at that) and the way to bypass this whole thing is convoluted (password) or just mean (beat high level cpu with a kart you didn't choose). Everyone knows this one and the drop off must be steep because of it, cause no one talks about the OTHER issues.
Unlocks: Nevermind why Time Trials, Online and Addons (which there wasn't even any available at release anyway), why is there a single cup available to begin with? Probably because the later tracks are the ones loaded with the overzealous new mechanics.
Then after that, there are hundreds of obscure unlock restrictions everywhere. Including one where you need to crash the game? Why? Extravagant things like little buddies and colors? Sure why not. Characters that could match some people's playstyles more and promote some player expression? No. Do you know why when there's character unlocks these days it's either easy or simple? Because it's fun to unlock things, but I sure as hell would like to get my favorite to actually play with AT SOME POINT.
Controls: People keep saying to stop comparing it to SRB2K, but tough luck, it's the follow up, it makes sense to compare them. The overall feel is absolutely worse, and it mostly lies with the new mechanics, drifting and the camera.
Mechanics I'll go over later, but drifting's problem is simple: it's sluggish. You considerably slow down while drifting and the angles on it are awkward, compounded by the inclines everwhere and underwater drifting.
The camera, in a bid to make all the bullshit of the tracks easier to see, is pulled back quite a bit, with cuts down on speed a lot and generally makes it feel slower than its predecessor.
The mechanics: Some are pretty good, most are too much. Let's start with the Rings, that are the main hook AND poorly explained. They are essentially a boost gauge + general collecting trinkets = more speed. In a vacuum, they're fine. Hell, it might still be okay combined with the items, but with everything else, it's stifling. So Rings are a boost gauge, and if you have none and get even bumped by another racers, you tumble off as if you were hit by a missile. Okay. So either you grab some more or defend yourself with the "Instawhip" move. An incredibly short-range attack that you can use against items or enemies if you are able to charge it up (charging it prevents you from grabbing items and rings) and your timing is incredible. You never want to not have rings, btw. That move is not worth it at all in these frantic courses you have to race.
Inclines: In a bid to make the game more like a Sonic platformer(?), the devs have made inclines lower your speed and, if steep enough, make you slide down them. First off, let's forget these karts SUPPOSEDLY run at 100 km/h as if it were true, only the steepest incline would stop their torque from carrying small mammals uphill. We need to talk about how these inclines violently affect your controls to make you use your rings for the simple reason they always want you to think about rings. Okay. But now let's combine these inclines with things like not having any rings and how hard you bounce off walls and it can become a real problem in races like Darkvile Castle and Amber Lake where you get stuck slowly bouncing along a wall at the bottom of an incline or chucking you off track, putting you at a massive disadvantage. Oh! And weight makes a difference in these inclines as well.
Inclines are annoying and should be heavily nerfed to make the game simply more fun.
Underwater Driving: Low opportunities to get a feel for it, drops speed considerably, makes several tracks strange to navigate by making some water traversable and others not at all. Make it clear where the track begins and ends. People can get used to underwater eventually.
Spring Colors: A great mechanic to make these things clear, oddly well explained for SOME reason.
Trick Springs/Bumpers: Absolutely horrendous. Hard to see/detect, incredibly punishing, and UI is hard to read for ABSOLUTELY no reason. It's used so little for the first quarter of the cups that I never see them coming and fling myself off the side trying to readjust myself or prepare to land into a drift.
Item Boxes: The 2 types of boxes work pretty well in multiplayer, but the game bends you over with it in PvE. Due to the cheating AI always having boost, going a little bit faster with rings is ineffective, and so this heavily cripples you when you are at the back of the race. Unless you're far enough for the normal item boxes to respawn, in which case you might as well restart the race.
Items: Heavily nerfed from SRB2K in some ways, incredibly buffed in other ways. Items have ruinous effects when they land. WHEN they land. I often find myself targeted by something(?) And the target eventually fades. SPBs are impossibly rare and the Mini Beams are almost guaranteed to spawn multiple times every race. I suppose it's just as well with the hitstun mechanic.
Hitstun/Tumble: One that's been added to add more crunch to attacks, it simply makes it rougher on the receiving end without making it particularly interesting on the attacker's side. Ultimately, combined with the force of the attack making the hitstun longer and what happens when you get hit with no rings... this is just a way to punish players already struggling more. And entirely benefits the cheating AI with infinite rings/boost.
This is one of the most objectively bad design choices and should probably removed, but will likely not.
Hard Drop: Often feels unresponsive, probably because it will not activate if you hold the button before a drop. In addition, the bounce it produces is simply annoying.
Let players hold the button in advance to drop off steep cliffs on the race track and remove the annoying bounce (aside from the one given by the Bubble Shield).
Spin Dash: Stationary move with long charge time? Barely usable outside of POSITION. The 3-count on it further emphasises its intendedly limited use.
Could be better if the charge was shortened.
POSITION: Why? This reeks of someone wanting to be different just for the sake of it. It's not really "more fair", but it does promote some griefing if players are feeling rowdy, and if everyone is orderly and just wait in their lanes, you might as well just line up the kart in a single line at the start instead. It's another step that is just obfuscating the start of a race. Great! Now I have to wait 2 countdowns before the race! Best case scenario, there's something neat at the beginning like in Withering Castle with the large jump, but mostly it's a wait and Spin Dash affair.
Additionally, winning POSITION often gives PvE players an incredibly lead which might give a seemingly bullshit comeback for CPUs if people do not play near perfectly.
TetheRubberbanding: So poorly explained I barely understand it. A Knuckles Chaotix magic link will sometimes form between you and another racer ahead/behind and will literally rubberband you together, pulling harder results in a stronger slingshot for the player in the back without affecting the one in front.
I have no idea why this is not simply a slipstream mechanic. The Tether can be quite overtuned and punishes good players by launching worse ones ahead.
As for traditional rubberbanding, you do know that it should also work for the player in slowing down the CPUs far ahead, right?
AI Racers and Rivals: It's plain to see AI are cheating bastards with advantages on top. It reeks of a team testing a game so long they have little patience for new/casual players.
To begin with, the AI will purposefully attack the player whenever there is a chance. Spawning orbinauts up close, waiting for you to pass to launch projectiles (even with others ahead), running you over with the several contact items flawlessly and even bumping you normally if you're in ring deficit.
Their defensive capabilities are also remarkable, often blocking from up front with their kart, dodging static items on the road, even jumping using the environment perfectly to dodge ghosts or mines.
Their movement is incredible, rarely missing a beat in inclines, seesaws and weird curves, and I have yet to see them get stuck in a bounce from a Hard Drop.
The designated Rival is even worse, possessing incredibly good item chance, ludicrous speed, nearly infinite (if not infinite) boost, artificially augmented(?) weight for lightweight Tails to easily bump heavyweight Eggman around with no problem. And they will not ever slow down at all if they pass you.
This does not help with the obscure unlock criterias that read like "hit Flicky with a backwards Pig Bomb while looking backwards with Wave The Swallow". C'mon now. You just want people to use their chao keys, admit it.
Apparently they've been nerfed in 2.1? No clue how. Easy and Normal aren't much different in reality. Actual difficulty adjustments can be seen in match races with (much more than 2!) CPU levels there. What's stopping them from using those settings? I have no idea.
Wanting challenging CPUs is a poor excuse when you go out of your way to make so many CPU skill levels and Cup races difficulty. There is a somewhat objective version of "Easy" and this is not even close to it.
THE GOOD: Despite all these problems, the game still has a lot of strong points. Despite the poor changes to camera and drifting, the controls still feel pretty solid, short of SRB2K, less satisfying, but solid.
The Artstyle, minus the constant shaking/vibrating effect on your character (which you should be able to turn off), is strong. There are some exceptions, which unfortunately include the tutorial level that is full of unnecessary details. The sprites are pleasant, the environment variety is great, the look of tracks based on stages/games is nearly perfect.
The track design is mostly good, even if their difficulty is all over the place, I can't complain much aside from the ones that are made to be more vertical, that are made tedious by the Hard Drop/Incline mechanics. And the amount is absolutely impressive.
Unlockables are a plus for me, I like filling checklists, but at the same time it's ridculous, so...
The high variance in character stats is a good idea and the quantity is amazing. Just wish I didn't need to play 80hrs to unlock favorites.
All in all, it's an often frustrating, but fun game that I will keep playing because I do like kart games and tough challenges and I'm a sucker for the look, but goddamn some things are just bad and feel bad. I personally probably won't go back to SRB2K either unless someone makes QoL changes to it, and include even more better tracks to it.
Instead I just wish the Ring Racers devs would be open to get some more customization in for things like hitstun (to remove it), drift speed (to increase it), instawhip (remove it), inclines (nerf their effect), as well as tweaking (please ffs) the AI difficulty to actually match what is written in game and make them cheat less to be a challenge. And those are just some of it.
I don't think I'm asking for the world here, and there is a better game here, and I wish they could include options if they want the base game to stay basically the same. But first, please remove that jittering/shaking on my character's sprite, it's just annoying and looks bad.
Anyway, all the best, hope you guys have fun with the game, thanks for reading.

2024.04.29 08:56 Gnashes 33 [M4F] Texas / Online - Looking for my other half!

My name is Chance! My career is in public accounting where I'm currently a senior manager. Sadly as a result, my usual workday is all boring and spreadsheets and making sure people did their stuffs right (companies, not people). Nothing to do with taxes, all just normal boring accounting for every day business stuffs. I'm decent enough at the job and it pays well enough that I don't really see myself changing careers unless something external pops up and causes me to give it a second thought.
Physically - I'm white, 5'8", blue eyed, salt and pepper hair (been getting more gray since high school!), bearded currently, and have a bit of a belly that I'm working on losing. I'm a stockier built guy so I don't look as big as my weight makes me sound, but I could definitely use losing some weight!
Politically - I lean left. People are people regardless of their beliefs, what gender they were both with and/or identify with. People deserve for their government to have their backs if they're in need, society would be better if everyone were a tiny bit more kind. There's more to be said, but you get my general idea there. I am conservative in some ways, just usually more fiscal rather than social ones.

Hobbies:
- I'm an absolutely *avid* gamer and enjoyer of great stories. With regards to gaming, I usually hyper-focus on 1-2 games and then have a smattering of all different kinds of stuff in alongside whatever that main game might be. At the moment that means loads of GTA RP and a little bit of a whole lot else.
- With my partner - I love watching movies, playing random spooky games with scared people watching, dragging friends into spooky games, and just chatting and kind of existing in a call while we do our own things. If we game together then awesome, but just kind of *being together* while not actually being together is nice too.
- Genres for entertainment? Action, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Family, Adventure, Drama, Horror, more!- I honestly love all kinds of music (Metal, classical, orchestral, K-stuff, J-stuff, you name it). That said, I'm not a big rap/hiphop fan
- I'm a general animal lover. Dogs, cats, all things cute and furry. Cats are def something I've never had and always wanted though!
- Reading! You'll almost always find me with a book or three in progress. Currently reading Supreme Magus by Legion alongside some various other things.- I'm a fan of all things humor, be it dark, raunchy, normal, etc.
Relationship stuffs:
- I'm a big texter and love calls. I love being in contact with my s/o little bits throughout the day, sharing memes, laughing at jokes, checking in from time to time. I'll usually be the first to send a good morning and the one to say good night.
- In-person, I'm a physical touch and cuddles kind of guy. I love showing affection through touching, cuddling, holding hands, snuggling up on the couch for a movie, etc. Just being able to show affection this way is one of my favorite things.
- I'm a very loyal and empathetic person. Once I decide that I like someone, I'm solid in my commitment to them and to making sure that I can do everything in my power to make them feel the same way that they make me feel. I'm not one to wander, think of others, or focus on the things about my person that aren't perfect. I take the good and enjoy it as best I can.
- I absolutely value communication. I'm open with what I think and feel, and hope that my partner is the same way. I don't like to hide things from them, and typically expect the same in return. It may end up being a lot from me if things make me feel passionately about them, but I'd rather you know than wonder.

General Bits:
I've been in... not very many relationships, and never in a "normal" relationship. I was in a 4.5 year long Long-Distance relationship as a late teen early 20's that ended with her cheating on me and getting knocked up, and a 7-month long relationship with a friend with whom things didn’t work out. Otherwise? I'm just a generally friendly and laughing kinda guy. I try not to take myself too seriously and try to keep things fairly simple and straightforward to the best of my ability. I'm a smartass, I joke, I pick, I try to make everyone feel as welcome as I can without breaking myself in the process. I'm opinionated but more than happy to hear opposing views.
Anyway, if you're still here, I'd love for you to reach out with some of your own interests, hobbies, and more! Maybe we'll be friends, maybe we'll be more? Only time will tell! :)

2024.04.29 08:46 SupportingHero [PC] [1990-2000s] [Arkanoid] help me find the Arkanoid from my childhood [Sci-fi, Space]

Hello friends! please use my description of what I remember about the game
Platform(s): PC
Genre: Arkanoid
Estimated year of release: before 2002
Graphics/art style: 3D low poly, and sprites based on 3D low poly.
Notable gameplay mechanics: The main feature of this arkanoid was that between levels you could buy weapons and upgrades for the platform in the next level in the store. currency in the store for blue crystals that fell out of blocks and had to be caught. It is noteworthy that each weapon had cartridges, they also had to be purchased and they ran out in battle. the blocks were mostly destroyed by weapons purchased before the level, the ball also took part in the game, it had to be hit, and classic upgrades for the ball fell out of the blocks. Another feature was the end of the level, when all the blocks are destroyed: the platform controlled by the player transforms into a spaceship. he starts flying forward like in Tyrian and you need to dodge asteroids. during a collision, the asteroids knocked crystals out of the ship, thereby losing currency for the store. asteroids could be shot with weapons.
Other details: Space theme of the game design, dynamic effects, explosions, high-quality animation. I remember that there were many different weapons. rocket launchers, miniguns, lasers (you could put several on the platform, it looked cool how shell casings fell when firing from machine guns). in the store the products were in the form of 3D models and when hovered they rotated around an axis

2024.04.29 08:45 khar_muur Auto sync or other means to bulk apply metadata on CC?

Hi, is there a way to apply metadata to multiple photos on Lightroom CC?
I’ve been googling high and low with no luck. All I’ve found is enabling auto sync, but I can’t find a setting for auto sync anywhere on the CC, only on Classic.
Thanks!
Edit: I’m running v 7.2

2024.04.29 08:40 Furlan_ITA Sony XM5's 6-months long review

I've used the XM5's for the past 6 months using them for 500h+ (iOS & Windows) sometimes used them under light rain (do not advice that) without facing any problem after.
Regarding the Sony's app:
Speak-to-chat (this will activate Ambient [transparency in Apple Air Pods Max] mode and drastically lower the volume): choice left at the user's discretion based on their preferences; note that i have never used this option and find it quite annoying.
Equalizer: I highly recommend exploring and spending quite some times playing around with the values to match your preferences according to the music you listen to. *

PROS:

CONS

Sony XM5's vs Apple AirPods Max

Model Sony XM5's Apple AirPods Max
Weight 250g (f* imperial sistem). The weight on these is phenomenal (read above) 285g. I find these too heavy to keep for long period of time; also note that by donning the head too hard (e.g. gym) these could come off your head
Ambient/Transparency Mode With Ambient Mode active on these you are able to listen to other people but you'll have to lower the volume by a lot Since the pavillon here is ligher, the Transparency is better. Seems like you do not have them on (ignoring the weight)
Active Noise Cancelling The ANC here is slightly better while both headphones cannot quite perfectly suppress voices For the same cause as the cell above, the ANC is worse than the one on Sony's
Side note: Here on reddit i saw in the past months A LOT of posts of concerned people pointing out the fragility of the hinge. DO NOT be frightened by these post since the probability of people doing great review here on reddit is much much lower than the one of people doing bad review (see above).
* I personally use them while going on train/bus
** This is the EQ I personally use, note that this could not fit your preferences; keep in mind i listen to various genres including: us rap, classical, dance/pop thus i tried to regulate the EQ according to the sounds included in these genres. https://imgur.com/a/LtIzFtu
I hope this was helpful, feel free to ask questions in the comments!

2024.04.29 08:33 kilos_of_doubt Dead Owl

I saw a dead owl today and it very much caught me off guard. Looks like it fell to the ground from high on a tree. I cant tell if it fell because it died or if it died because it fell.
There were many more owls flying around with one seemingly tailing me as I went on my walk. Ya'll feel any way about this?
I felt sad for the owl but overall felt a sense of mystery and uncertainty after dealing with an emotional situation of my own.

2024.04.29 08:25 neverbeenstardust MCCKO Sandkeeper Predictions/Hopes/Maybe Hot Takes

I don't know how hot the takes will be I title the post before I start writing it. Before anyone asks, I have watched a normal amount of Sands vod reviews and dedicated a reasonable amount of brainspace to storing trivia about it.
Red Rabbits: Ollie. Ollie and Kara are both among the upper echelon of sandkeeper, but Kara has been wanting to get more into running and has mentioned that she mostly sandkeeps because she doesn't usually trust her teammates to do a decent job at it. Ollie is someone she can trust to do a decent job at it. Fein is probably gonna want to run and Chilled does not seem to be enough of an MCC nerd to be trusted with it.
Orange Ocelots: DarkEyebrows. For my own sanity, please Michaela. Shadoune and Owen are gonna want to run and Jimmy has sandkept before but I watched him do it and he did not even one single time fill the timer all the way up. He would be making calls like "90 seconds on the clock, 11 sand in hand". Sir, that is deranged behavior.
Yellow Yaks: Gumi. This is such a classic Sands team. Three people who really prefer running and one person who really prefers sandkeeping. Gumi is great at it too. No notes. Let her cook.
Lime Llamas: Dubfan135. Quite possibly the only player I rate equally highly as both a runner and a sandkeeper. H and CPK both profoundly do not fall into that particular category, bless their hearts. Iskall is also the Vault Hunter himself and is definitely gonna want to Hunt some Vaults and already has a lot of the necessary skills like [checks notes] absurd amounts of greeding.
Green Geckos: Scar. I believe in Sand Daddy Scar. Also despite his reputation for being incredibly scatterbrained, Scar is capable of locking in when the situation calls for it. It's entirely possible that Xisuma might also be capable of locking in, but I don't know that I've ever seen it before.
Cyan Coyotes: Elaina. Two reasons. First, she's a good, experienced sandkeeper. Second, "Ant, how much sand do you have? Not you, Ant. What were you saying Ant? Ant you need to come back. Not you Ant, you keep going. Where are you, Ant?"
Aqua Axolotls: fWhip. Listen. He hasn't played in a while, sure, but he's one of the guys who invented sandkeeping. It's your rightful place, dude.
Blue Bats: Michael McChill. Okay, here's an interesting one. Ollie and Kara was easy because they're both sandkeepers first but Kara wants to run. Eret and Michael are both sandkeepers first and prefer to stay that way. They're also both generally gracious and accommodating and the type to get each other stuck in an "oh, whatever you prefer" loop. On balance, I think Michael is just a slightly better sandkeeper. Not that Eret is bad at it or anything, I just slightly prefer Michael's style.
Purple Pandas: Guqqie. Scott is also an OG sandkeeper but he's been shifting over more to running and I haven't watched enough of Guqqie to know their specific strengths and weaknesses, but they have the opportunity to be trained by Aimsey, who is one of the best sandkeepers out there.
Pink Parrots: Impulse. He's the only one with experience sandkeeping and he's gonna wanna maximize the time his buddies can spend playing the video game. I think Skizz has the potential to be a phenomenal sandkeeper if he decides to learn though and I wouldn't mind him stepping up here if he wants to, but Impulse is the safer bet.
