2024.04.29 08:09 Throwaway_Account493 Seeking: Czech (Native, Czech Republic) Offering: English (Native, Western U.S.)

Dobrý den! I am a 16 (M) looking to learn Czech. I am able to offer American (West Coast) English as a Native speaker. I am also able to provide Spanish, though it is only 2 years worth of it, so it is pretty limited.
I am wanting to learn Czech for travel purposes, not immediate, however it is a country I am wanting to visit (plus I like learning languages.) I know a bit of Czech, but for all intents and purposes I only know rudimentary greetings, descriptive words, and simple phrases.
I am able to help with speaking, writing, reading, etc. for helping with learning English. I would prefer to use discord. If you are interested please say so in the replies!

2024.04.29 07:10 CrimsonDani1 About the location and zip code

Well, I need a little help and guidance on everything that's going on with the game and the accounts. I have been playing FFXIV on Playstation 4/5 for some time now on an American account on Playstation and MogStation (I am from Latin America). I have always used the Game Time Cards (60 days) that I buy in a virtual store that belongs to me country. With that alone I pay my sub, I use my VISA to make minor purchases in the FFXIV store. When I tried to renew and upgrade a digital collector's edition, it asked me to add the address and number where I am "supposedly" living. I tried to make the purchase ignoring all that but I couldn't. So I entered a random address and so I could access the purchasing options. Until now I have not made any purchases since I am a little scared, I don't know if this will cause me to lose my account, since unfortunately Square Enix as a company is very limited with the rest of the countries, especially when it comes to Final Fantasy XIV. First, verify that my ID and password are correct, saving them on my PC and cell phone to avoid having to contact SE in case I forget my account. Currently I can access the FF14 and MogStation Online Store with my account without any problem but as I said I have not made any type of purchase since first I would like to know how serious this issue is. What should I do? If I want to make a purchase in the ff store, is it highly likely that I will be banned? Will I no longer be able to use the Game Time Cards to continue playing? I hope you can guide me a little.
Greetings and a strong hug

Imperial German maps of the Hollow Earth
Maps for the passage of the depths of the seas.
A Russian journalist inspects these maps and had it confirmed by an oceanologist that all the data on these maps are real. These maps were given out by the Russian Secret Service. These maps were actually found by the end of the war in 1945!

This map shows us the main continent of this hemisphere named Asgard. On the continent Asgard a city is depicted: the city of the Asen. We can see the colony of New Swabia (Neu Schwabenland) with its capital city of New Berlin. The small swastikas depicts a submarine base of the Imperial German Navy. The main ocean in this hemisphere is named the Valkarian Ocean. (Source: Hollow Earth Blog)

This map shows us the main continent of this hemisphere named Liberia. The main ocean here again is also the Valkarian Ocean. On the lower part of the map the city of Shambala is depicted. The Tibetan Monks believe that the City of Shambala is not on our surface but on the inside of the Earth. This map of the Inner Earth shows us the actual position of Shambala confirming the actual existence of this mythical place. (Source: Hollow Earth Blog)

After returning from the assigment hand in at the secret department! IN CASE OF DANGER DESTROY FIRST!
Next to the Imperial German Eagle it says in German:

Confirmed by the command of the U-Boat Fleet of the Imperial Navy of the German Reich .

This means that the Imperial German Navy already had bases in the Inner Earth in January of 1944! New Berlin was already founded by that time. Nevertheless in another part of the document it is stated that they will need new men and women to settle in the Inner Earth to expand into these new

This part of the Imperial German Map of the Hollow Earth gives a ten step guide in how to reach the Inner World of Agartha with a submarine. The German U Boots of the Type XI to XIII where very advanced for those days. The Imperial Germans of the Third Reich were free in their minds and spirits. They were not mental slaves like the billions of people who live on this planet today. When the minds are free creative work becomes the norm. That is why the Free German Citizens of the Third Reich created and engineered these incredible crafts like the Haunebu I, II, III, Vril I, 2, and Andromeda Devices. Nevertheless this part of the document gives us real coordinates on the World and the exact place where to dive to find this corridor to the Inner Earth of Agartha. It is also stated in the document that package nr. 3 should first be opened when arriving in Agartha.

Letter from Karl Unger, crewmember of U Boat U-209

This is a letter from a German U Boat crewman of U-209. He says in the letter that U-209 commanded by Heinrich Brodda made it to the Inner Earth of Agharta and that they wouldn't be coming back. (Source: U-209 Hollow Earth Blog)

20 of April 1947
Dear old comrade,
This message will be a surprise to you. The U Boat 209 has made it, the Earth is HOLLOW! Dr. Haushofer and Hess were right. The whole crew is doing well, but they cannot come back. We are no prisoners. I am certain, that this message will reach you, it is the last contact with the U 209. We will meet again comrade. I am worried about the people that have to live on the surface, since the Fuehrer is gone. God bless our Germany always.
With hearty greetings,
Karl Unger

Bemerkung (Remark): The SS E IV regards construction plans on Haunebu II to make more sense than to work on both types at the same time. The “Haunebu II” promises decisive improvements in nearly all points. Higher production costs seem justified – especially regarding the Führer special order. Flight gyro concerning.

Bullshit Jobs: A Theory (2018) by David Graeber — An online philosophy group discussion on Thursday May 2
From bestselling writer David Graeber, a powerful argument against the rise of meaningless, unfulfilling jobs, and their consequences.
Does your job make a meaningful contribution to the world? In the spring of 2013, David Graeber asked this question in a playful, provocative essay titled “On the Phenomenon of Bullshit Jobs.” It went viral. After a million online views in seventeen different languages, people all over the world are still debating the answer.
There are millions of people—HR consultants, communication coordinators, telemarketing researchers, corporate lawyers—whose jobs are useless, and, tragically, they know it. These people are caught in bullshit jobs.
Graeber explores one of society’s most vexing and deeply felt concerns, indicting among other villains a particular strain of finance capitalism that betrays ideals shared by thinkers ranging from Keynes to Lincoln. Bullshit Jobs gives individuals, corporations, and societies permission to undergo a shift in values, placing creative and caring work at the center of our culture. This book is for everyone who wants to turn their vocation back into an avocation.

2024.04.29 05:02 HannahLu666 Downton Abbey: Lady Levinson - Clarity in the Human World

Cora's mother, anticipated eagerly before her arrival, was the topic of conversation when Robert remarked, "Thank goodness your mother isn't here, otherwise she'd have quite the spectacle to witness." Cora chuckled and replied, " Don't worry about my mother, she has enough drama on her own. "
Grandmama Levinson, who dazzled the entire room upon her entrance, exchanged words with those she wished to engage with while completely ignoring others. She spoke without allowing anyone else a chance to interject, treating responses as interruptions as she swiftly transitioned to the next topic.
Her every word was piercingly accurate, hitting the nail on the head each time, much to the chagrin of those around her.
With the confidence of an American and the wisdom of someone who has seen it all, Grandmama Levinson's insight was evident in her maid, who observed everything downstairs with keen interest and greeted her beloved with enthusiasm.
When Aflred asked, "Aren't you meant to be gathering information for Mrs. Levinson?" She replied dismissively, "She is well aware of your intentions, why would she need me to gather information?"
Each member of the team bore the unmistakable mark of their leader, and Mrs. Levinson was no exception, exuding confidence and shrewdness inside and out.
During Downton's crisis, both Mary and her grandmother hoped to elicit Mrs. Levinson's sense of responsibility to aid the estate financially. However, she calmly responded, "I can do that. I'll host all of you in America, including covering Cora's wardrobe. As for the rest, I'm afraid I can't help."
I must say, I admire the way conflicts are handled in Downton, especially Mrs. Levinson's equanimity. Her composure was evident even when she declined a suitor's pursuit for wealth; she declined directly without disdain or indignation. It's proof that two people with differences need not become enemies.
As she shared whiskey with Robert, Mrs. Levinson remarked, "People must adapt to the world, adapt to nature. I hope you find the strength to survive amidst this process."
In that moment, I felt Mrs. Levinson's gaze transcended time, seeing into the future.
Her most radiant moment was when, faced with Mary and her grandmother's attempt to impress her with a traditional English dinner, the stove broke down right before the crucial dinner, leaving them with nothing to serve! Mrs. Levinson immediately organized Carson and the others to prepare a buffet, turning the tables in an instant and making that evening at Downton truly memorable. The way she held Dowager Countess ' hand and sang with heartfelt affection is a memory I cherish.
Mrs. Levinson, the masterstroke indeed!

2024.04.29 04:42 CascalaVasca Does knowing German help heavily with Turkish pronounciation?

Having bought the Instant Immersion software series of learning languages own Turkish release, as expected so far Turkish from the few lessons I took definitely is worthy of its classicfication in the American FSI's language difficulty rankings of Category 3, the second hardest level of difficulty in their criteria and requiring over 1100 hours of study to be proficiency. It pretty much feels like the same hardness of level of difficulty I had when I learned Russian and with Vietnamese and Thai which I'm also learning right now simultaneously......
Oh before I go on, here's an article explaining how the FSI rankings work so you can get context........ I'd recommend to read it since I'll reference the FSI's system across this post.
https://blog.rosettastone.com/the-complete-list-of-language-difficulty-rankings/
With that said...... I was so surprised that the pronunciation is pretty easy so far, I feel like its at the border between a Category 1 and 2.
Some background on me. English is my primary and first language though as you can guess from my first paargraph I learned the barebones of other languages. Beyond the mentioned Russian, Thai, and Vietnamese, I learned a lot of Italian, French, Tagalog (to the point I can literally understand this language as good as a native speaker, sometimes even faster than my brain registering English), and bits of Polish and dabbling in Mandarin years ago. So far German is the prime language I been investing in its whole (with me using Tagalog far longer and understanding that more at least in understanding it spoken and speaking basic conversation). More hours spent everyday in German than any other language. And this tidbit with German is very important with my question because.......
At first I had difficulty with Turkish pronunciation in the Instant Immersion's software. Took me three days to get past the first three vocal tests. How I finally was able to get past 3 and move smoothly so far enough to finish Disc 1 by this weekend? Well I began to notice as I continued taking the first 3 lessons similar sounds to German. Well basically I remembered German pronunciation especially the R and other guttural speech and.... Well from there on after passing lesson 3 its been a relative breeze so far compared to how hard the language is in every other element. Definitely easier than the Russian software I took and a complete cakewalk compared to Thai, Vietnamese, and other tonal languages. Basically on the first disc I think of German phonology and modify it to the specific sounds of Turkish and its general pronunciation.
But as I said I only finished Disc 1 today and the Turkish course package has 3 discs total. So I haven't gone to advanced stuff yet since disc 1 was about learning basic greetings, colors, and other stuff most specifically useful for tourists and from my past experience with Instant Immersion the later discs gets harder into stuff meant for people staying in the country where the language is spoken for a while and in turn are far more difficult. So I'm still not yet exposed to the Turkish language as a whole.
That said is my assumption based on the Level 1 CD of German helping with Turkish a lot in pronunciation correct? Or does it heave far away as you learn Turkish more and more? Turkish people who also know German here what do you say on this? In particular I ask for the input of you folks who lived in Germany at a time in your lives, particularly those of you who were born there and learned German as the primary, if not the first language and only learned Turkish to a useful degree later in life. Did knowing German as children of immigrants as the main tongue in your lives even at home if not even the only language you knew in your childhood and college years help smoothen out learning Turkish later on at least as far as learning pronounciation goes?

Wonderfalls (2004)
Only 4 out of the 13 episodes aired. And two of them were aired out of order. I absolutely loved Wonderfalls. It’s from the same creator that gave us Pushing Daisies, Hannibal, Dead Like Me and Star Trek Discovery. I was devastated when the show was cancelled. Thankfully they did release the complete series on dvd and the season finale served as a satisfying series finale. As much as I wish we had more of this show I definitely don’t see how many seasons they would’ve gotten out of the concept. So at the end I’m happy to have the 13 wonderful episodes of this show.

CHAPTER 7 – SHAKEDOWN
DATE: DECEMBER 29th, 6 A.U. (AFTER UNIFICATION) LOCATION: SOL SYSTEM, ABOARD UTRN INDOMITABLE WILL, BLACK SITE S33
CAPTAIN HENRY O’TOOLE
A bead of sweat rolled down Henry’s brow while he watched Paul on the monitor. So far, the ship had performed every test admirably and each section chief had signed off that their systems were ready for service.
We're as ready to launch as we're ever going to be... Henry took a deep breath as the dry dock doors finally finished their painfully slow opening process.
"Alright, Paul, it's time." Henry spoke from his captain's chair on the systems map platform overlooking the rest of the CIC.
Off to his right, a screen displayed a small group wearing space suits on the primary observation platform over the hull of the Indomitable Will. Paul stepped forward, one magnetized step at a time, as he examined a champagne bottle in his suited hands. He looked back at the rest of the station leadership behind him before he turned back to the ship to speak.
"This project has been the subject of my every waking hour for nearly two years now, but for the men behind me it is the culmination of a lifetime of knowledge and five years of very hard, very fast-paced work. You have clearly, with plenty of help, out-done yourselves. I know there is normally much more fanfare around a ship launch but we've all decided against that, considering the circumstances. I still want to show our esteem for the hard work of each and every one of you who helped make this possible with at least a few words before we break this bottle over the hull. In another set of circumstances this would be a mission for the history books, with the eyes of a hopeful world upon us as we embarked on a mission of peace and exploration. Our enemy has robbed this possibility from us, replacing it with a desperate gamble for our very survival, should the worst come to pass. We all know the stakes both of success and failure, and I trust that we will embark upon this journey with the appropriate understanding of just how critical our own roles will be in the coming months and years. We have picked out the best crew we could find, and you have all proven yourselves ready for the responsibility that we are about to shoulder together. Our ship was named the Indomitable Will, as nothing less will be acceptable in the months ahead if we hope to succeed against the impossible odds we face. In the name of the North American Union and the United Terran Republic, I christen thee the UTRN Indomitable Will, SVM-001!"
Paul then threw the bottle toward the ship. A gasp emerged from below as the bottle bounced off the bow, rather than breaking upon it. Henry's stomach instantly tied itself in knots, and the mood in the CIC plummeted as the camera showed the unbroken bottle sailing off screen.
It's just a superstition, everyone, we'll be fine.... Henry pulled himself together as he saw Paul board the ship and seal the airlock behind him. Looking around the room at the scared looks and tense whispers, Henry decided that he needed to just proceed as if things were normal.
“Helm, activate Telekinetic drive generators and set them to hover. Disengage the docking clamps! Has STC forwarded us the asteroid drift charts for navigation yet?” Henry said with all the confidence he could muster.
Aye Captain!” their helmsman said.
“Asteroid drift charts are updated, awaiting orders, sir.” Navigation reported in.
"The lieutenant is on board, sir!" His officer of the watch stated.
"Excellent, let's get under way then." Henry said.
Henry coolly readjusted his balance as the ship began accelerating slowly out of its berth and into the blackness of space. Small glints were visible off the otherwise pitch black hulls of the eight frigates that waited a few hundred kilometers ahead. One by one, in a preordained order, each frigate fell in alongside their new mothership and docked themselves into their assigned saddle. There each ship would stay, ready to launch from embedded electromagnetic rails at a moment’s notice should the need arise.
As the last frigate settled into place, Henry steeled himself to give the next order. As much as he trusted his genius of a girlfriend and the massive amount of testing they had done, even she admitted that the first test fire of each individual system would be a risky endeavor.
Get it together, Henry, that bottle is just an old superstition. Henry shook his nervousness off and called Chantal’s station in between both of the C.L.A.P.P.E.R reactors.
Her smiling face greeted him. “Hiiii Henry! We are all warmed up and ready down here. Just give the word my captain, and we can fire at will.”
“Well then, no sense in beating around the bush, let's begin our space trials then. Looks like our capacitors are about full, so prepare to warm up the port side C.L.A.P.P.E.R reactor. Fire control, prepare a firing solution for the target I have marked on the system map.”
Well, here’s to not blowing us all up moments after launch….
Henry watched as the last few percentage points filled on their capacitor charge before he yelled out “Fire!” The lights dimmed as all available power was routed along with a full capacitor charge into the port compression fusion reactor. The infinite repulsive effect of the null matter fed into the system to squeeze the Deuterium charge together. The null matter forced mass particle collisions and raised the contained pressure and heat exponentially until it sparked a runaway fusion reaction. The lights returned to full brightness in the CIC as the negative mass field-collapsed. Powerful electromagnetic containment fields forced the fresh plasma from the reactor and then down the barrel in a tightly contained packet.
The moment the blazing plasma escaped the muzzle, it was captured within a new null barrier generated by a drone that launched alongside it. Together, they accelerated straight towards the asteroid Henry had designated for testing. At the last second, the drone cut the barrier and swerved to the side to return to the Indomitable Will, ready to fly again. The asteroid was atomized on impact as the plasma ball expanded into a bright cloud of charged particles. A cheer emerged from the CIC as the main screens replayed the scene from multiple angles. Henry looked over to see an ecstatic Chantal on screen.
“THAT ASTEROID JUST GOT CLAPPED!” She shouted.
She shrugged at Henry while she mouthed the words 'I had to say it' with a shameless wink. Henry just laughed, being well-used to her humor and antics by this stage.
“Charge capacitors to full and prepare the starboard C.L.A.P.P.E.R to fire!” Henry shouted, as he assigned their next target, a double-thickness section of alien hull plate which had been stealthily cut from the underwater portion of the downed craft in the heart of the Manhattan Crater Bay. He watched the display as the ship’s four LFTR cores worked at full capacity to fill the dedicated stacked and twisted graphene super-capacitors for the starboard C.L.A.P.P.E.R. The moment they read full, Henry yelled. “FIRE!”
Again, the lights dimmed as the starboard C.L.A.P.P.E.R released it’s contained plasma packet into the void which was captured by a fresh drone. Alien hull plate was notoriously difficult to pierce with most conventional weaponry, which was why the idea of working fusion plasma weaponry had been so attractive. The running joke was that Naval R&D was constantly five to ten years out from working plasma weaponry and always would be, as most of the technologies involved were the very same ones that were necessary for fusion power generation.
Once the C.L.A.P.P.E.R system could be proven to be viable, stable, safe, and effective without major maintenance headaches, it would forever change the balance of power in the favor of humanity. The prototype had already seen extensive testing and improvements, Henry hoped he would be able to come to rely upon the working models in his ship when it counted most. At least if they were to become a ticking time bomb, they could be rapidly ejected far, far away in a real emergency.
Just like before, the drone dropped the barrier at the critical moment to deliver its payload and returned to the ship. No matter how effective the exotic alloy blend, or how well the outer ceramic layers dissipated heat, there was a point at which physics would not be denied. Henry smiled as the super-heated plasma boiled its way straight through the double-thick hull plate piece. The insane difficulty of smuggling away a hull plate section for this test meant it could only be performed once, but the results were undeniable as the damage inflicted was utter and complete. The still-hot plasma dissipated in a cone shape into the void far beyond the initial impact point, implying that the damage to unlucky ship’s interior after a direct hit would be every bit as catastrophic.
“Dr. Washington, this weapon system might just change everything for us.” Henry said, beaming with pride.
“Thank you, my captain. I will work my tail off to keep my babies working as promised.” Chantal smiled without reservation. Henry was happy to let her bask in the feeling; she had more than earned it.
“Temperatures that high and pressures that extreme take a toll, we ought to save this thing for a really dire situation, to reduce wear and tear, if nothing else.” Paul said, spoiling the mood as he entered the CIC.
Henry stared daggers at the man. In spite of that, Paul remained stubbornly unperturbed with his trademark cocky smile plastered on his face.
“Yes, Paul, that has long been considered in the materials science, such concerns informed our alloy choices and helped us design the maintenance cycle. Obviously, all systems have a defined lifespan that reduces with use before we must to take them offline for preventative maintenance and parts replacement. It helps that we have plenty of other offensive options at our disposal that we could use first.” Chantal shrugged, shedding the negativity like water off a duck’s back.
That was one thing that Henry was truly beginning to appreciate about her above all else; she had a relentless positive mental attitude ingrained within her. This time, Henry smirked at Paul.
"Alright, enough, let's get back to the task at hand." Henry said in order to cut Paul off from a snark filled reply.
“I am satisfied with these tests here to say that the system is working as intended. Does my captain agree to certify the C.L.A.P.P.E.R system as ready for duty?” Chantal asked.
“I will agree to certify the C.L.A.P.P.E.R as ready for duty, pending a full inspection and report to be delivered in my quarters at the start of C shift.” Henry replied with a smile.
“Awesome! I had better get down there and inspect things while they are hot.” She said, “I can’t wait to give you the full and exhaustive report on the matter in your quarters later, Captain. I'm sure you'll find my report to be... most stimulating.” She then cut the feed with a smile that made Henry stiffen in anticipation.
With monumental effort, he snapped himself out of it and fired up the ship-wide intercom.
“All right, Helm, I am charting a course for you to guide us through, Should be around a three hour flight at one gee. Fire control, I want a full systems test of every laser battery on this ship in the meantime. Once we clear this cluster of asteroids and we have some room to maneuver we will test the drone launch and recovery systems as well as test our pilot’s response readiness times. Magazine control, I want you to test the feeding systems for our tactical missile inventory. We will test every major combat system on this ship by the end of today. If I haven’t mentioned your section yet, you can expect a visit from me soon, so be ready.”
Henry looked over his extensive list of tasks and systems he had to personally sign off on and resigned himself to a long couple of days. He then picked up his tablet and walked out of the CIC with the intent to waste no more time. He reached the quick lift and rode it down one level into deck one and then made his way over to engineering. He received salutes as he passed and exchanged words where needed to check systems until he reached the door that allowed maintenance access to their FTL system. He stopped dead in his tracks as he got a crawling, horrible sense of trepidation while staring at the door. Suddenly the lights flickered and died out; the room looked very different bathed in amber emergency lights. The effect lasted only a second before the regular lights came back and the feeling of fear dissipated.
What... in the fuck...? Henry shook it off, continued his checklist, and made a note to look into the lights. This whole deck is on the essential systems power bus...
Idly, he wondered how many other little technical gremlins existed in the ship's other systems. He shuddered at the thought, though was thankful that most technologies used in his ship were already battle proven in the rest of the fleet. There were some novel systems, though, and the launch of a new class of ship always required addressing unforeseen technical challenges. Those were the ones that worried him most.
He looked at the checklist again, a bit more thankful for the thoroughness of it and got back to work. Each of his frigates had been checked and had been flying drills and running supplies around S33 for some time. They were all relatively proven, simple designs and could be relied upon when the moment came. His own ship, was a different matter, and he was determined to catch every little issue he could before they left their home port and the possibility of easy repair behind.
It was going to be an intense few weeks, but Henry found himself to feel more excited by the prospect more than he felt overwhelmed by it. He took that as a good sign, and thus encouraged, got back to work. Next stop was electrical, which seemed destined be a source of trouble for him already. While it was true they had very little time to work out any issues before their official launch, Henry was grateful to have some say in pushing that back if need be.
Fighting back a headache, Henry opened his neural implant interface and messaged the electrician's mate to meet him immediately.
MEANWHILE…
DATE: DECEMBER 29th, 6 A.U. (AFTER UNIFICATION) LOCATION: SOL SYSTEM, S33
FIREMAN APPRENTICE ANDREW REESE
“The captain wants to meet with me any minute, and not a single one of you worthless lot have anything for me to report to him?”
Andrew felt the tension in the air as the question lingered. Never had he felt so at the bottom of the power dynamic before, and it infuriated him. The Chief had rank on him, and he had to continue to play the role of loyal crewmate if he wanted to remain above suspicion.
“What about you, NUB? We pulled you from the line at Liberty Station, or how about one of you two? You three are supposed to have college backgrounds. Anything?”
Reese felt very little tension himself, even as the chief briefly locked eyes with him. Beside him, the others seemed ready to crack under the pressure.
I'll have to be careful when I test that one.
Andrew then realized that he had been forgetting to blend into the background emotions of the moment; he had allowed himself to be seen as an anomaly.
Sloppy, time to turn this around.
“We've been at this for hours it feels like, I don’t know about an answer, but we can stall for time by blaming it on the mass power draw for the C.L.A.P.P.E.R being fired back to back. That should mollify the captain and buy us some time here to find the real answer.” Andrew said, hoping he had struck a perfect balance. The chief simply laughed for a moment before collecting himself.
“All right, I like it, simple, plausible, and nebulous enough that it should work as a delaying action. Now split up and look to your training partner for assignment. We will comb through every system and sort this issue out, or command will have our heads! Dismissed.”
Excellent, he just had to make himself just the right amount of indispensable without directly kissing ass while he continued to subtly probe the loyalties of those around him.
Unfortunately, his mission had borne little fruit thus far, as his opportunities to recruit had been rather scarce. He had met quite a few people who were clearly excited about the idea of being explorers and cared little about the obvious risks. Once the ship was underway, it would hopefully get easier. He simply needed more opportunities to flash his charm and to build enough trust to slowly sap some of these fools naive confidence to replace it with hard realism.
Andrew knew that he had to play the long game with each and every one of these people. The price of failure in any way meant death for them all, and Andrew planned on surviving this mission, whatever it took.

2024.04.29 01:51 stelliferous7 I want your guys' thoughts re: Why or why I might not have autism

First off I want to say I'm not asking for a diagnosis. This is more of a brain dump where I want feedback from y'all before I take a neuropsychological test.
I feel more confident in thinking I may have ADHD or NVLD but here we go. (I have other conditions that may mimic autism too so that may be a point against it.)
Why I am thinking I may:
-Sometimes I can't tell when people are joking or not. I mean usually this is in regards to strangers like customers at work. Then they have the audacity to laugh when I am confused. If my response involves (to said joke) saying "No we don't have _____ or "No, sorry," they laugh. Sometimes I don't even get why they are laughing. Like what?!
-I interrupt and have a hard time trying to give my two cents especially if it is 2+ people. This may be ADHD thought because my thoughts are not linear. I usually know that if I say something I will have to explain how I have arrived to that thought in the first place.
-Does tenacity tend to be common with autism? If so I have been called that multiple times by my parents.
-Black and white thinking.
-My sense of humor is odd and unconventional.
-I would cry so much especially as a child in regards to loud noises. I am still pretty sensitive emotionally too.
-I hate eye contact. Hate it!!! I feel like I "look through" people's faces and not at them too. I'm not even shy, and my therapist assumed it was because I am shy, but I'm not. Even when I had bad social anxiety it wasn't because of that. I could tell.
-I have mild prosopagnosia (face blindness).
-I have poor executive functioning symptoms.
-I definitely stim.
-I listen to music on repeat as a stim too.
-I hate it when instructions or rules are not specific and literal. Unless they are clear that they're just guidelines, don't call them rules. Tht makes absolutely NO sense to me and I get annoyed when I get in trouble for not following the rules right when they aren't clear. Sometimes it's not even instructions that I take literally.
-I get upset when there are small changes in my environment or when there is a sudden change of plans. I take the same route to specific places every time I can.
-Strong empathy and my morals are ridged.
-I feel very analytical when it comes to reading body language sometimes. For example yesterday, I saw a coworker who either seemed focused, distressed, or confused. I looked at her eyebrows to decide, and my inner monolouge came to a conclusion. And sometimes I feel analytical when it comes to displaying my own body language. Definitely not always though.
-I feel like a lot for me it is all for nothing, even when it comes to being hypo or hyper sensitive. I have a high pain tolerance speaking of which.
-When I was younger, I was odd. Not just quirky. I had to shut that part of myself down when people told me.
-There was a few times I can remember a group I played with at recess would just...leave me alone and I don't remember why?
-I'm a woman and so I found it interesting that girls with autism had a "mother hen" as a common experience. This was mostly my teachers. Currently even younger coworkers of mine kind of infantalize me and "mother hen" me.
-I am quite trusting (a nicer way of saying gullible lol).
-I would get mad at my brothers for light teasing, not realizing it was the friendly type of teasing. When they got annoyed I was sensitive to it I learned to laugh along.
-I have vivid memories of mentally beating myself up for my odd behavior as a child that sometimes caused bullying and became shy and what may have been learning how to mask.
-I underestimate how many times people lie
-I cared more about changing my doll's clothes than acting out stuff with her. I had two American Girl dolls and when my friend played with me we would argue about which one to use and we were like "Well this one looks more like me, so..." lol
-I don't like talking about much other than what I am interested in. I have heard it is common for autistics to bring back convos about themselves? If that is true that is me. I try not to sound narcissistic about it, but that is how I relate and contribute to conversations.
-I have been told multiple times I am unobservant when it comes to my surroundings.
-I had fixations on thing and somewhat do still. More when I was younger however. My interests are few but deep.
-Misophonia (uggg)
-social chameleon
-I always liked autistic coded characters .
-I'm solitary.
-I accidently do rude things but it is rare enough that even a NT would experience it that often so idk if that counts.
-When I walk into work, I wonder, "I greeted this person in this way, what words should I say to the other?" Is that common?
-I have epilepsy and I heard that's comorbid.
-I have always felt like the odd one out. When I was in elementary school especially I thought I was just different from the popular kids but then I realized I was overestimating how many popular kids there were. Lol! I guess popular=NT or masking maybe?
Why I maybe don't have it:
-I have never had trouble with sarcasm, idioms, or metaphors. For the most part I am the first to get a joke and explain it to others if they are confused (save instances from my "why I may have it" list).
-I'm solitary but I love spending time with the people I know and get upset (on the inside) almost childishly when I feel like they have to leave earlier than I want them to. "Hey, how about another round of the boardgames?" "No, sorry it is getting dark out and I have to drive an hour away..." But I guess afterwords I feel like it is good to relax.
-I understand my feelings easily and why they happen easily. I don't think my affect is flat, but maybe idk because I may have masked for so long that I can't tell (if I do have autism?!). However I don't usually share my feelings. I don't really say I feel _______ unless it is a strong emotion and need to explain why I am crying, etc. Maybe it is because I'm repressing something or don't know how to talk about it. Idk! Well, I guess when I'm excited or gush about something I do mention my emotions. I'd have to do some introspection on this. Huh.
-Especially now I am not super passionate about anything that could be considered a special interest to the point where I know a ton about a subject besides what I learned in college.
-I actively start small talk and am the first person to say hi when I see someone I recognize.
-I honestly can't tell if I get facial expressions intuitively or know it from when I manually learned it out of interest as a teen? I never have had problems with common or obvious facial expressions especially. Not surprising though.
-Although I did mention about my doll I would participate in imaginary play with others. Can't remember much about it though so I can't remember if I spent more time directing it. So yeah idk about that.
-I usually can work out people's intentions.
-Patterns don't really stick out to me unless I'm actively seek them out. And when I do sometimes they have no logic to me and I don't say anything because I know it wouldn't make sense.
-I have been told for the most part I know myself well by multiple people, as in how I am feeling in my body. If I feel something is off, something is off. However, I will admit I can act anxious and like a but of a hypochondriac.
-Like I mentioned earlier, I have so many conditions that could mimic autism traits.
This list isn't comprehensive.

2024.04.29 01:08 TheBonesOfAutumn In October 1933, United Airlines Flight 23 crashed in Chesterton, Indiana after an onboard explosive detonated. Known as the first proven act of air sabotage in the history of commercial aviation, the culprit, and their motive, remains a mystery.

Shortly before 9:00 pm on October 10, 1933, Joe Groff, a Chesterton, Indiana farmer, was engrossed in a game of hearts with his neighbors when a thunderous explosion overhead shattered the tranquility of the quiet evening. Startled by the deafening sound, Joe and his companions scrambled towards a window, their gazes drawn upwards to witness the horrifying spectacle of a burning airplane disintegrating in the night sky, showering the ground below with fiery debris.
The earth shuddered as the flaming wreckage slammed into the ground. Joe and his friends raced towards the crash site, driven by the desperate hope of finding survivors. But as they drew closer, the inferno's fury pushed them back. Fred Rhode, another nearby farmer, who had also witnessed the crash, arrived to find a scene of utter devastation. Twisted fragments of the fuselage littered the field, and lying within the smoldering remains was , “a decapitated woman, her body charred, and her limbs reduced to smoldering stumps.”
"We were startled by a terrific explosion. We ran outside. We saw the plane burning in air, about 1,000 feet up. It was falling like a rock, flames shooting out on all sides. It came down faster and faster. We could hear the motor running. The plane zigzagged as if in a tail spin. Then it hit the ground with a roar and a sound I hope to never hear again. Flames shot up at least 200 feet. I heard what I thought were people crying out. We tried to throw water on the flames, but couldn’t get near enough to do any good. We had to stand on, helpless." -Joe Groff
The aircraft was identified as United Airlines Flight 23, a ten seat, twin-engine Boeing 247, bound for Chicago, Illinois. The ill-fated flight had originated in Newark, New Jersey, and made a routine refueling stop in Cleveland, Ohio. There, a pilot change occurred, and two additional passengers joined the manifest, bringing the total onboard to seven.
Now piloting the aircraft was 25-year-old Harold “Hal” Tarrant, a two year veteran of United Airlines, and his co-pilot, 28-year-old A.T. Ruby, a graduate of the University of Illinois. Hal was the son of a wealthy Illinois merchant. Recently engaged, his fiancé, Bessie, was waiting for him at the terminal in Chicago.
Also aboard was 25-year-old stewardess Alice Scribner. Alice was the daughter of a former Wisconsin state legislator. After graduating from college, she became a teacher, and later a nurse at Bellin Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin. Meeting United’s height and weight restrictions at the time, less than 123 pounds and not any taller than 5 feet 2 inches, she had joined the airline only recently. Her fiancé, Evan Terp, was also waiting for her at the airport in Chicago.
25-year-old Dorothy M. Dwyer was flying to meet her fiancée in Reno, Nevada. She was supposed to be on an earlier flight, but missed it due to a flat tire on the way to the airport in Newark. 44-year-old Emil Smith, a former army officer and grocery store owner, had also boarded in Newark, heading back home to Chicago.
Warren Burris, a radio operator for United, was one of two additional passengers picked up in Cleveland. Warren was being shuttled to Chicago to crew another flight. Also added to the manifest in Cleveland was 28-year-old Frederick Schoendorff, manager of a company that made refrigerators in Chicago.
Hal's routine radio transmission at 8:39 p.m. Central Time suggested normalcy; despite the slight drizzle over North Liberty, Indiana, the flight seemed on course. Yet, twenty minutes later, when his next scheduled check-in was due, silence echoed across the airwaves. An hour later, the airline’s station manager received a brief teletype message confirming their worst fears; Flight 23 had crashed.
Meanwhile, in Chesterton, fire crews, police, and local volunteers converged, their desperate attempts to quell the raging inferno a futile battle against the wreckage's relentless flames. As the fire burned into the night, a grim reality settled in; there were no survivors.
Evidence suggested a midair explosion had ripped the aircraft in two, sending the main fuselage, housing both the passenger cabin and cockpit, plummeting to the ground, inverted, at an estimated 150 miles per hour. Meanwhile, the severed tail section, just forward of the lavatory, fell about one-half mile from the scene of the crash, nearly entirely intact.
The bodies of Hal and his co-pilot, A.T. Ruby, were found near the airplane’s mangled cockpit. The bodies of stewardess Alice Scribner, and passengers Dorothy Dwyer and Fred Schendorf, were found nearby, amongst the wreckage of the cabin. The bodies of Emil Smith and Warren Burris weren’t found until the following morning, in the weeds about half a mile from the main section of the plane, near the tail section.
At first, it appeared to be a tragic accident; A fuel leak, possibly. Structural failure also was suggested. Some believed the plane had been struck by lightning, and there was even a theory it had been hit by a meteorite. Mounting evidence of foul play, however, led to an FBI investigation, headed by Melvin Purvis, the head of the Chicago office who would later gain fame as the G-man who “gunned down John Dillinger.”
A full-scale investigation promptly unfolded, hampered initially by the disturbing reality of looted wreckage. Drawn by morbid curiosity, onlookers from miles around had pilfered souvenirs from the crash site, hindering initial efforts. For example, the propeller of one engine was missing a blade, and investigators never found it. Decades later, in a 1999 interview as part of a project conducted by the Westchester Public Library in Chesterton, local resident Howard Johnson finally disclosed what happened to it:
“Donald Slont, who later ran Flannery’s Tavern, was on the local fire department. Of course, the fire truck went out there immediately when the alarm was sent out. When they picked up their stuff from the fire truck to come home after they had done everything that they could, one of the propellers was lying on the ground. It had broken off. Don was one of these guys that just laid his hands on anything that he could see, and he grabbed it,” Johnson recalled. “When they were investigating the thing, they couldn’t find that propeller so they thought the propeller had come off and that’s what made it crash. And here Donald had it all the time. I think it had red, white and blue stripes around it so that when the propeller turned, it looked like a circle of red, white and blue.” -Howard Johnson
United Airlines sold the remaining majority of the wreckage to a Hobart, Indiana junk dealer for $75. He hauled it away just days after the crash. However, despite the missing pieces, amidst the remaining debris agents stumbled upon several unsettling clues; Shrapnel holes were found on the inner-side of the remains of the rear lavatory door. Airline blankets stored in a cubby in the lavatory also bore the same holes.
In a bombshell development on October 14th, the FBI, after consulting with the Crime Detection Laboratory at the Northwestern University in Chicago, announced the cause of the crash was a “high-powered onboard explosive containing nitroglycerin, dynamite of high percentage strength, TNT, or some similar substance."
The meticulous examination of the wreckage pinpointed the blast zone towards the rear of the aircraft, most likely originating in the lavatory or the blanket compartment. “The investigation centered upon a piece of blanket, part of the plane’s equipment, and several pieces of the metal surface of the plane. Both had been pierced many times by small bits of metal. Only a high explosive could produce a force great enough to force metal through metal.“ This revelation transformed what was initially seen as an accident, into a confirmed act of sabotage.
In the wake of the news, a swift search for the culprit was launched, and the FBI quickly zeroed in on passenger Emil Smith. Emil, who boarded the aircraft in Newark, reportedly purchased life insurance just one day prior to the flight. The two dollar purchase promised a payout of ten thousand dollars should Emil’s plane crash. Additionally, eyewitness accounts noted him carrying several peculiar items onto the plane, including a firearm and a brown paper sack he stashed in the overhead compartment.
A thorough investigation into Emil’s background, however, revealed a seemingly normal life. The 44-year-old Army veteran, who served in Hawaii during World War I, resided with his aunt, Anna Reidl, on Argyle Street in Chicago. Previously, he co-owned and operated a grocery store with Anna until its sale in 1930. Financially secure after the sale, Smith enjoyed a leisure lifestyle filled with hunting, fishing, and attending baseball games. Anna described him as a quiet individual who often joined her in the evenings for pinochle games.
Emil’s aunt told investigators he had flown to New York City for the World Series games on October 3rd and 4th, residing at the Roosevelt Hotel on 45th Street and Madison Avenue. While his stay at the hotel was confirmed, investigators couldn't verify his attendance at the games. His activities during his remaining days in the city were also equally unclear. On October 9th, Emil purchased his plane ticket and flight insurance directly from his hotel desk. His final known movement prior to boarding the aircraft occurred at 2:10 p.m. on October 10. Emil sent a telegram to Anna reading, “Leaving New York today by plane. Everything O.K.”
During a later examination of the wreckage, Emil’s brown paper sack was recovered from among the airplane debris. The contents of the sack were never disclosed, but authorities determined it posed no threat. As a result, Emil was cleared of any involvement in the incident.
The following months saw a flurry of investigative theories, including potential "mob involvement" due to the recent travel of Joseph Keenan, an Assistant Attorney General tasked with investigating organized crime, on United Airlines just days before the crash. However, this theory was swiftly dismissed as implausible.
Pilot dissatisfaction was also explored. A United vice president relayed an indirect threat regarding potential aircraft damage if "scab" pilots were used during a labor dispute. Additionally, the brother of co-pilot A.T. Ruby reported ongoing issues with certain union members. However, after interviews with the alleged source of these threats, and confirmation that labor tensions had subsided by the time of the crash, no evidence of employee sabotage was ever found.
Also interviewed was J.J. Lavin, an American employed by the Chinese Consulate who facilitated wheat shipments from the U.S. to China. Lavin drew suspicion when FBI agents learned he was originally scheduled to be aboard the crashed flight, but had rebooked to a later one. He was reported to have made comments about a bomb causing the crash, supposedly before such information became public. Lavin denied these claims to investigators, though he acknowledged the possibility of such discussions while under the influence of alcohol. He was later eliminated as a suspect.
The investigation continued for two years. Then, on September 20, 1935, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, declared “all undeveloped leads in this case have been exhausted, and the investigation has not developed any facts which would justify presenting this matter to the United States Attorney. Therefore, this case is being closed.”
The crash of Flight 23 is known as the first proven act of air sabotage in the history of commercial aviation. In addition, the death of Alice Scribner was the first instance of a stewardess dying as a result of an airline crash. When Alice’s younger sister, Velma Scribner, walked down the aisle in 1940, she wore a “handmade peasant frock that had been imported from Paris. Described as eggshell in color, with a bodice smocked at the neckline, it was trimmed with embroidery on the sleeves and front.” The dress had been intended as Alice’s wedding gown.
In 2017, the FBI declassified 324 documents related to the investigation. Unfortunately no new leads were developed. Whoever was responsible for the crash, and their motive, remains a mystery.

2024.04.29 00:47 Wonderful_Salt_5576 Endings

If you go with John:
High honor:
TB destroyed Arthur's body so the beating from Micah was actually "the cherry on the cake" (no disrespect meant) Arthur laying on the ground confronting Micah saying to Dutch that Micah is the rat. Dutch flabbergasted seeing his mistake, Dutch leaves, also Micah leaves pissed that Dutch left Without him. Arthur dying and he leans on the mountain looking to the west like he said in Chapter 3 to Lenny and Hosea
Low honor:
After Dutch left Micah said: "Your not better than me Morgan!" Wich Arthur says: " What ever you say you fool" Then Micah points the gun at Arthur and says: "Damn You!" and Arthur answers: " Damn us both!" wich Micah pulls the trigger laughing and spat on the body of Arthur
If you go for the money:
High Honor:
Arthur left the cave Micah Jumped on Arthur Stabbing Arthur in the hip and having a knife fight then Arthur bites Micah in the left hand and stabbing his eye and gets a scar (in the epilogue when facing Micah with John you can see the scar *nice detail RDR2*) Dying Arthur points to Micah saying it's him not Molly not Miss Grimshaw Not even Colm. Micah says: "Your dying black lung"
Dutch left and Micah also leaves and again lays down an faces to the west
Low Honor:
Micah stabs Arthur and after fighting Dutch intervense and says: " You silly fools what have you done." Then Micah says that Arthur robbed Dutch for taking the money. Arthur denys and responds : " i came to take whats mine, you rat." after the same convo and Dutch leaving Micah finishing Arthur by stabbing him in the back literally and figuratively (what i mean is after saving him from the jail and doing stuff together)
Explanation Epilogue 2: American venom
After Sadie comes to Beachers Hope telling John she found Micah Abigaill saying he needs to stay and saying: "Without Arthur non of this would of happend." They are riding to Strawberry Charles says that Arthur doesn't want revenge (refrence to two lines in game "Revenge is a fools game." and "Revenge is a luxury we can't afford.") John says that Arthur wanted revenge against Micah. They arrived in Strawberry finding Cleet. Cleet says that Micah killed innocent people and tried to kill Cleet. Killing Cleet isn't cannon but it is satisfying seeing him die after talking s**t to Sadie and Arthur on the Train in Chapter 6. When you approach the foot of the mountain Charles gets shot by a sniper after advancing till Sadie and John gets ambushed Charles saves Sadie but Sadie gets injurded. John says that he saw Joe so that he is close. After approaching the cabins you see Micah greeting John by saying : "Hello Scarface." Asking how Abigail and Jack are doing and after he is done with him he'll kill them to. John says that Arthur saved him and Micah mocks Arthur's death by telling him that he is dead long time ago and its a new century. After John and Micah shooting at each other Sadie points a gun to Micah. Micah feeling surrounded but has a trick up his sleeve. Dutch comes out of the cabin which John gets flabbergasted and Micah chokeholding Sadie. John makes clear that she's injurded and after a while Dutch shoots Micah. Micah still trying to kill John. John enters Dead Eye and kills Micah. John thanks Dutch and Dutch leaves. John collecting all the money over all the years. Putting into the wedding and paying off the farm.
If you complete the game 100% you get a cutscene Mary Linton visiting the grave of Arthur

2024.04.28 23:43 Ok_Fill3301 I think my pc is broken😭

I’ve had this pc for a good bit and so when I got another one I neglected my old one. I unplugged it for a while and just let it collect dust under my desk. Now I want to give it to a friend but when I turn it on it only shows this? I’ve tried to exit it and it will only show a black screen, when I press the restart button on the pc, it takes me back to the screen again. When I save and exit, it again takes me back to the screen in the photo. I don’t know what to do and can I save this pc😭

Additional Information and Questions
25) Please provide any additional information you feel may be relevant.
26) Feel free to ask any questions below.
Mostly concerned about separation anxiety during the day while we’re working. We want the dog to be happy and healthy so can get enrichment toys for mental stimulation and pay for dog walkers if necessary. Looking for help on which dogs are most likely to be happy with this level of engagement from us. Also interested in any other dog breeds we should consider.
