2024.04.27 11:55 Hannah1224588 Progressive nightmare Water Damage Vehicle

Aug 2023,
My fiance and I drove down Detroit for our first concert since becoming new parents back in May. We decided to leave the concert a bit early to get back home to our son. On this evening Detroit had gotten very heavy rain and thunderstorm, causing major flooding on I-94.
That evening my 2020 Jeep compass was submerged in water on the freeway. The water did get over 18 inch. Hundreds of cars were stranded on the freeway due to heavy flooding.
Progressive accepted my claim, towed the vehicle to the mechanics and then started the claims process. Shockingly progressive decided to fix the vehicle, replacing the engine.
I received my vehicle back in October, with nothing but issues. Oil pan leaking, odd smells coming from the engine and electrical issues.
One month after receiving the vehicle a fuse blown, causing the engine light on, steering wheel, brakes and parking brake to be stuck my vehicle had to be towed. Mechanics fixed it and gave me the vehicle back.
October - February the jeep had been in and out of the mechanics due to misc issues.
February 2024, while driving on mound rd during rush hour. I stopped at a red light at the intersection and the jeep completely stalls out. Steering wheel locking up, engine light comes on and brakes are locked up. Due to the location of this electrical failure, it nearly caused an accident. I have a family and refuse to ever get behind the wheel of this vehicle, and believe this is a huge liability for myself and innocent drivers on the road.
Repair: replaced starte start/ Stop battery Unknown why the vehicle stopped while driving, notes say safety feature in jeeps if door is open parking brake locks…. Door was not open while driving it.
This car has known electrical issues, has left me stranded twice, and is a obviously a liability to innocent drivers. Progressive will not total the vehicle because it has not reached the 75% threshold. Progressive has been terrible to deal with, Im out 25K between rentals, paying car insurance on a vehicle I do not drive and the vehicle it's self.
Take it somewhere else? Jeep dealerships certified with progressive will not take the vehicle due to water damage, electrical issues and someone elses work. Sell it? Why should this be someone else problem, this car is a suicide box and someone life is worth more than 18K. Also the value significantly drops after water damage, and no one wants this vehicle.
I bought a new car, Jeep is just at the mechanics lot, trying to find a dealership to look at it. I just want this car to go away.
Progressive has been terrible about answering, you have to beat them down. Mechanics think progressive should have totaled it.

Welcome to our home and hopefully you enjoyed your stay.. First I would like to say that the vast majority of Jeep drivers were responsible and respectful of our roads, beach and laws. But to that minority that are going to ruin the welcome for everyone else.
1: Please don't blast you damn stereo with all your doors off, we are not interested in listening to you music a half a mile away.
2: Please obey speed limit on the beach and for God's sake don't drive in the surf.
Thanks again to the 98% of common sense Jeep driver.

2024.04.25 22:20 sneechesgetleeches 22 Days Backpacking in Costa Rica, here's what went down!

Hey CRT!
Just got back from a 22 day trip to CR in the month of April and I'd love to share my experience with everyone.
I traveled to San Jose, Manuel Antonio, Monteverde and Puerto Viejo
Couple things upfront:
SAN JOSE
Flew into SJO, the airport is pretty small and pretty easy to navigate. I booked a shuttle through the hostel where I was staying. Looking back I should have taken an Uber because I arrived late and there wasn't traffic but I didn't know exactly how Uber would operate in SJ or at the airport so I decided to be safe and go with the shuttle which I booked in advance.
I stayed at the Selina property in San Jose, check in was great and my room was decent. If you're looking for a hostel with a communal kitchen, co work space and activities this is a pretty safe bet. I found this property is a good one to get your feet wet if you don't backpack a whole lot or solo travel, everyone is really chill and helpful. The location was pretty sweet, it's not right in the hustle and bustle of SJ but it's certainly walkable, I walked everywhere.
The bad: it's a noisy location. From the street noise, the noise from the kitchen and birds starting to chirp at 3/4AM in the morning... my room was also under a staircase so I literally heard every footstep and every bag of luggage going up and down that thing... I had to switch rooms but I was moved to another area of the building where it was closer to the street, so I traded one problem for another.
I would stay here again only if the price was right, I found a great deal through hostel world and would probably book again if I was quoted a similar price.
Not going to sugar coat it, I didn't love San Jose but I'm glad I stopped there for a couple days. I checked out the National Theatre of Costa rica, the tour was pretty cool and I would have checked out a show there if there was one on. I also went to the National Museum of Costa Rica, it has a butterfly garden as well so that was a nice surprise to explore. Also got to explore the local markets and town, I highly recommend stocking up on sunscreen, bug spray, whatever before you venture off into beach towns/more secluded areas of the country as the prices will be much higher for items there.
The best meal I had was at this place called Tin Jo which was asian fusion - highly recommend checking it out but I wasn't blown away but many meals that I had in San Jose.
For bars, I checked out this really cool speakeasy called Buchon, little pricey but really good cocktails. It may not be for everyone but I went to this metal bar called Butts, it's a bit of a dive but it had people there every night and everyone I met there was really cool.
Glad I stopped in SJ but I wouldn't spend more than 2 days here.
MANUEL ANTONIO
I booked a shuttle from Selina San Jose to take me to Selina Manuel Antonio, they used a shuttled service called Interbus. I highly recommend Interbus, they have AC/WIfi and used them a few times during the trip. Book with them directly through WhatsApp, I managed to save a few dollars because I was using them so much and managed to haggle a few bucks off each ride here and there.
Landed at the Manuel Antonio Selina, this property felt more like a resort than a hostel. If you're looking for a hostel vibe this isn't the place but if you're looking at a resort with 3 pools and a bit more of an upscale feeling, then go for it. They had DJ's in town the weekend I was there so it was rather noisy at night but I was told that it wasn't really the norm. Although it's far from the beach, you're uphill in a good area with walkable restaurants and an excellent view for sunsets/sunrises. You can take a public bus, taxi, rent a scooter or walk down to the beach area - I would not recommend walking back up hill - I did that once and it nearly killed me lol
I had to do laundry service at the Selina and it broke the bank, the only laundry available was the next town over and it wasn't feasible for me to get over to do laundry and then come back to grab it. I decided to have the laundry service done during one of my excursion so at least the timing worked but it still sucked.
I highly recommend checking out the Nauyaca Waterfall, it's stunning. I booked a waterfall excursion with Paddle9 and got to swim/have a full day with the tour group, it was pretty fun.
Fun tip: I booked a good chunk of excursions/experiences through Airbnb, they charged in my own currency and sometimes it worked out cheaper than what was being advertised locally or in USD. I found the tours booked through any property I stayed at were easily 20-50 dollars more expensive, so do some digging and find them locally. A decent amount of tours I asked if I can pay cash and I usually saved some money by doing so in person or asking for "last minute deals".
Checking out Manuel Antonio Park is a must, I highly recommend booking with a guide as they really add to the experience. They know where these creatures nest, they know what to look for, they work with other guides to find wildlife, it was great. Manuel Antonio Park has two beaches that are great for swimming, both with calm water and a decent amount of sand to stretch out on. It's the best swimming in Manuel Antonio, when you go on a tour make sure you pack your beach gear. There are loads of beach monkeys trying to steal your stuff, so keep a watchful eye on your belongings.
I booked with Costa Rica Wáköö Tours and would book with them again in the future.
The public beach is decent place to visit but I found the water wasn't super suited for swimming, surfers may love it but the rip current was pretty strong. There's a school bus food truck down there called En Todas that was really good, would definitely check that out.
Again, best swimming is in MA park but you need to pay to get in.
Decent amount of restaurants are tourist traps and not very good, most are overpriced and underwhelming but I'll highlight a few that I enjoyed:
Emilios cafe was great for coffee/breakfast/lunch. I would recommend going during the day and take in the view, it's fantastic.
As for sunsets, Le Papillon is the best place to go, I went for cocktails/snacks for the sunset and it was really magical.
My favourite place to eat in MA was The Falafel Bar, ate here twice and it was the best bang for your buck.
Really glad I stopped in Manuel Antonio but I was meeting people who had a week booked and they were bored after 2 days, most just stayed at the hostel and swam because there wasn't more to do.
MONTEVERDE
Had another Interbus shuttle booked from the Selina in MA to the Selina in Monteverde.
Monteverde was a huge change of pace from MA, it's much cooler and a bit more laid back. It's also really windy/cloudy and can rain, so make sure you pack a couple of sweaters or rain jacket.
The Selina in Monteverde felt more like a ski lodge, it's a gorgeous location and very close to the Monteverde Cloud Forest National Park but very far from everywhere else. If you drive or take public transit/taxis, I recommend it highly but there's no amenities around the hostel.
I booked here mainly to be close to the Cloud Forest and wanted to spot a Quetzal, it was sort of a bucket list thing for me to see one and if it meant going to the park multiple times to spot one I wanted to stay pretty close to it - but that's just me.
If you're looking to go to the Cloud Forest, book a tour in the morning and I would spend the extra money to have a private guide. I booked with a larger tour and half the people didn't get a chance to look through the telescope to see what was spotted because it would fly away or move. Little selfish but I started to stand right next to the guide through the tour when I noticed the large groups were missing wildlife, to be fair I made sure to glance 2-3 seconds through the scope and then move aside for others but after 3/4 people the animal/bird would fly away. I realized this is what I had to do or my own money would have been wasted.
I managed to spot a Quetzal 3 times which was a pretty special thing, I was also relieved that I didn't have to pay the park admission price/book another guide $$$
There's a hanging bridge in the Cloud Forest but was pretty busy so if you're looking for that iconic IG shot of you alone on a suspended bridge it wasn't really the place for that. Ironically, it was a sunny day and not too cloudy, which worked in my favour because I got to see one of the Quetzals I spotted fly around.
Selvatura Adventure is labeled as a adrenaline destination for zip lining but it's an amazing spot for multiple suspended bridges and a sloth sanctuary. I booked with them directly and got a free shuttle service which was a huge bonus as it's a little far away.
They have loads of suspended bridges with hardly anyone on them because everyone is going zip lining, managed to experience that "in the cloud" feeling and got some great photos.
I have mixed feeling on the sloth sanctuary to be honest because it was an up close and personal experience, which is something you sort of dream about but the sloths were kept in an enclosure which made me feel a little sad. To the credit of the sanctuary, they were all rescues and can't be released to the wild but I found other sanctuaries in CR have more of a focus on release and keeping the sloths in outdoor enclosures. Just some food for thought.
The town of Monteverde is really chill and has a few local places to check out, I really enjoyed going to the local bar Amigos and having coffee at the Orchard Cafe.
Although it wasn't as action packed, I went on a night tour with Roys Monteverde Nature Guides. I had a blast going through the forest at night spotting creatures. Looking back, I would have booked a few tours with them if I discovered them sooner.
One thing to note, most tours require a minimum of two people so ask them in advanced when they have tours to join or be prepared to pay a little extra for a private tour.
The most unique thing I did in Monteverde was to watch the sunset at Las Piedras. I took a taxi up to this guys property who lets you watch the sunset from his land for the low price of 2 dollars. It's INCREDIBLY windy but you get an amazing view of the mountains. Bring a drink, try not to get blown over and enjoy the best view in Monteverde.
La Fortuna
Left my ski chalet in Monteverde and took a "Jeep/Boat/Jeep" trip La Fortuna, would highly recommend taking this trip if you're traveling between the two places. The ride is unqiue and the views are fantastic.
Got dropped off at Poshtel in La Fortuna.
The location is RIGHT in the middle of La Fortuna and the hostel is much cheaper than the Selina properties, the price and the location were a huge selling point for me. The staff were very friendly and gave me great suggestions/helped me navigate the public bus system, which I'm super thankful for.
That said, the property needs a little bit of work and there are just things you have to deal with such as paper thin walls and inconsistent water pressure/temperature. Not the end of the world but certainly something mention.
La Fortuna was one of favourite places to visit, it has so much going on and felt more like a backpackers haven than just a tourist stop.
Jungle Tours offered a 4 in 1 day tour of The Arenal Waterfall, Arenal Hanging Bridge, Arenal Volcano and Public Hot Springs. I was a little hesitant to book at first because I wanted to space these places out throughout the trip but the price point was fantastic and the group I went with was super fun. To do all this independently would cost you a lot of money and the guides were really informative throughout the whole process. It also didn't feel rushed, you spent the right amount of time at each location.
I also checked out Proyecto Asis which was a rescue sanctuary, would highly recommend visiting. Birds, Monkeys, Sloths, they have everything. I booked the tour but also got to volunteer by prepping a meal and helping during the animal feeding time. Carlos was our guide and he was very passionate about animal welfare and I found the whole thing super educational.
The Santo Rope Swing is a public hot spring/swimming hole about a 25 min walk from town, definitely work checking out if you're looking to swim and chill out - it's free!
Vita Cafe was my favourite place to get coffee in La Fortuna, little hole in the wall joint but the place was spot on every time.
Pizza Ranch was my favourite place to eat and I'm not trolling. They made an amazing margarita calzones at an unbelievable price - I went here as a joke originally - but it ended up being a staple for me.
Special shoutout to Lavanderia El Almendro, it's family run laundry service who do same day turn around at a really good price - I cannot recommend them enough. Bring cash and google translate, you're golden.
I treated myself to one day of luxury on my trip by spending a day at a paid hot springs and one night at a 5 star resort.
Ecotermales has a great setup at somewhat affordable price when compared to other paid hot springs. You book in advanced and you pick a morning/day or afternoon/evening time slots. I found this hot spring not to crowded and had multiple pools to choose from, about half the time I was in a pool on my own which was really nice and relaxing They also serve food and drinks but they were rather expensive so I brought water and snacks. Some places offer full days or multiple day trips, I spent a total of 4 hours going into the springs/sun tanning and that was enough for me.
For the night I booked a stay Nayara Gardens, it's toted as the best hotel in Central America. It's as advertised and really expensive. I booked a room mid week during a online sale so I saved a TON of money but wouldn't book here full price, it's just so much god damn money.
I booked a private car from La Fortuna to my next stop Puerto Viejo, I was going to take a shuttle but I would have had to get a cab into town and take a shared transfer at 630AM so I decided to spend a little but more and take a car service.
Highly recommend Charlie Shuttle tour CR, they service all over CR and they quoted me a really good rate and I got to Puerto Viejo in a speedy and safe fashion.
Puerto Viejo
My favourite stop, Puerto Viejo.
Landed at Playa 506 beachfront hostel, which was one of my favourite stay of my trip. Literally, right on the beach with great amenities and met lots of good people.
Not exactly IN Puerto Viejo proper but it's a fantastic location. Rent a bike or Scooter, it's the best way to get around. I ended up doing a lot of walking/exploring but biking around was such a highlight for me and I felt safe doing so.
I could easily spend weeks/a full month here.
Jaguar Rescue Centre was really cool to check out for a couple hours, did a tour with them and saw so many animals and learned a lot about the good work their doing.
The main beaches in Puerto Viejo are worth checking out but the swimming is a little rough due to the rip current, so just be mindful. That said, the best swimming of my trip happened at Puerto Viejo and here's where they are:
Playa Chiquita, Uva Beach and the Cahuita National Park.
Playa Chiquita/Uva Beach is out of town but worth traveling to, you can bike/walk/transit/tuk tuk or taxi to both of these places. I recommend bringing drinks, snacks and just spending the day in the water.
Chauita National Park also has a couple great swimming spots, much like Manuel Antonio I booked a guided tour in the morning and then spent the afternoon swimming/exploring the park. I booked a tour of the park with Green Chauita, our guide was Tito and he was fantastic, 100% book with Tito if you plan to go.
That said, the main beaches are worth going to just to take in the views and hang out - you'll find everything under the sun at these beaches from fire spinners, tight line walkers, volleyball, etc. It's a great place to meet people and hang out.
Food was also really good this stretch of the trip, I'll list my favourite spots because I could go on and on, (I already have).
Tamara, Grow, Bread What What, Sol De Caribe, Beach Break Bar and La Nena were all top notch but overall you can't go wrong with most places in town just try to avoid the fancy ones that offer beachfront dining as they can get really expensive.
Back to San Jose
I took another Interbus shuttle back to San Jose for my last night and decided to stay at the Country Inn by the airport. Speaking frankly, I just wanted to stay close to the airport for my last night and wanted to book a hotel that offers a free shuttle. Make sure to book the shuttle in advance, they tried to charge me $20 for the shuttle but I had written confirmation that it was free and just had to show them the email - just confirm in advance.
The one thing worth mentioning is that I did the Starbucks Coffee Farm Tour. I was looking to do this tour at the start of my trip but it's rather far from the city of San Jose but conveniently closer to the airport, so I decided to tag this on to the tail end of my trip and saved some money in transit.
Really cool coffee tour and there's a great look off to enjoy, was nice to reflect over the trip and sip on a pretty decent cup of joe.
Took an Uber to and from the farm, was pretty affordable.... got stuck in rushhour traffic on the way back but other than that it was okay.
After the trip, I went to a little food complex next to my hotel called Fresh Market Ulloa, (I think?) for my last meal of the trip.
Went to bed and then woke up at an ungodly hour for my flight back home.
.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading.
I would definitely visit Costa Rica again and would recommend visiting to others who are looking for a little escape, however you define it.
The most fun I've had on the trip were the little things... the people, the beaches, the swimming holes, the local sodas the paying 2 dollars to sit on some guys land to watch a sunset... my only advice is to seek those moments out whenever you can as those will be the ones that stay with you.
Pura vida

Stolen 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Major Electrical Damage. Total loss or repair?
My 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen and used to commit multiple robberies. The insurance adjuster said she’s never seen anything vehicle stolen like mine before. They added wires and drilled holes. It wasn’t a quick hot wire. They also did body damage to the bumper and right rear panel and door. The collision shop said it will probably have to go to the dealership to fix the electrical and take the entire vehicle apart. They asked me if I wanted it totaled or fixed… I’m struggling to decide what to do because I only have 26k miles on it, it’s 5 years old, my interest rate is 5.6% and will be paid off in 2 years. If I have them fix it, I worry it will never run the same. But then I worry Progressive will low ball me in a payout. In good condition, it should be valued around $21k, but the value will most likely drop 20-30% because of theft and repairs. My comprehensive deductible is also $2k. Does anyone have any advice on whether or not it’s smarter to have it repaired and keep the car because of the low mileage? Or should I let it go and move on?
I also won’t get anywhere near my current interest rate on a new vehicle. Also my credit has dropped because of financial hardship about a year ago. Thankfully, I live in a downtown metro area within walking distance to a grocery store, cvs, restaurants and bars. So I won’t need to buy a new car immediately and can work on rebuilding my credit in the meantime. It’s just hard giving up my Jeep that I spent the past 5 years investing into and I’m not in a place where I can go out to buy a new car. It’s so unfair because the only person that wins here is the criminals that stole my Jeep. I also don’t trust Progressive to give me the fair payout or have my best interest in mind. I pay them almost $4k a year for insurance and it’s unfortunate I can’t trust them to give me the fair amount on my vehicle or get me the repairs I need…
Any advice or similar shared experiences that would be helpful?

2024.04.25 19:48 pdubs1900 Considering selling paid off impractical car for family car

Tl;dr- New parent, tempted to trade in a paid off coupe for a Baby-Friendly car, but struggling with the cardinal rule of "drive till the wheels fall off."
I bought a used 2016 Mustang Ecoboost back in 2018 for ~$21k. It's fully paid off, and I had always intended to drive this thing into the ground.
Well God laughed at that plan and I now have a 5 month old. The Mustang is terrible as a family car. I live with the mother who is my Fiancée. She does have a Jeep Wrangler that we use as the "family car," but I can't shake the thought of how nice my car would be if it was a sedan/hatchback, as I occasionally need to be able to transport the little one while Mom is taking care of her own business (she works full time and handles majority of daycare pickup/dropoff. I work from home full time).
The baby car seat works in the Mustang, but it's a huge hassle and is objectively less safe due to how difficult it is to load the car seat and that it's not a center placement.
So when I need to transport the baby, the plan defaults to driving out to wherever the Jeep is and trade vehicles.
It'd be so much easier if I had a car that also functioned more practically for kids.
Where I'm stuck is the cardinal rule of driving a car into the ground over selling it. So the options I see that I'm struggling with are: 1. Keep mustang, buy a used vehicle with liquid savings (won't touch fully funded 6month emergency fund). This would likely dip into my current savings goal which is a down payment on my first house purchase. The benefit being I will still have the car, perhaps to gift to kid(s) in the future, but that's a long time, ~15 years, the mustang isn't being used as a regular vehicle, which is an invitation for mechanical issues, I believe. 2. Trade in or privately sell Mustang, buy a used vehicle using the proceeds, aiming to NOT spend any more than the trade in value. With this approach I feel like I am eating the loss of what I bought the car for, trading a very healthy vehicle for one that's less good, all around, other than its practicality. 3. Do nothing and deal with the inconveniences as-is. [ETA] 4. Buy a second car seat that functions well in a coupe.
What am I missing? And why is the solution so unclear to me?
Thanks for any input.
Finances basics:
-36 y/o
-Renting
-Have emergency fund of 6 months expenses
-Only debt is ~6k student loans
-Currently saving for house down payment in ~2-3 years
-Discretionary income after all budgets, expenses, and 401k contribution of 14% gross is ~$300. I have flexibility to tighten the budget, but I don't want to reduce my 401k contributions as I believe I am behind on retirement savings.
Update: I'm going to go with Option 4. While we plan on having more kids in the future, the immediate problem is that neither car seat is good in the Mustang (we have 2: one a good rear facing seat, other is a grow-with-me that can't swivel so is useless in the Mustang right now). The immediate problem is solved by getting a swiveling car seat and deal with the occasional inconvenience of moving the passenger seat around. Once baby can sit front-facing, it'll also be much, much better.
When additional kids come into the picture, this option may suck much more and be worthwhile to go through the hassle of trading in the Mustang. But that decision point will be more clear at that time, and Option 4 holds that off for some time yet. Importantly, in fact maybe most importantly, that bought time is time for the used car market to return to somewhat reasonable levels. Used cars are ridiculously inflated, due in large part to supply chain issues during the pandemic, per my understanding. I've come to this realization of how bad it is after browsing what used vehicles cost right now. Eating $300 on another car seat to wait for better used car prices feels like a much better choice vs spending thousands of extra dollars on a currently overpriced Sedan/SUV/Van/etc.
Thank you all so much for your input and discussion. It was exactly what I was hoping for to get the gears turning!

2024.04.25 13:37 Careless-Current-487 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo 4.7 V8 Leaks.

So I bought a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was from 2 kids. They didnt communicate very well, and for that reason, they "left" out a lot of stuff wrong with it.
So I noticed over the past few days then when I park it, itll leak coolant from the front. Itll make a little puddle if I let it go for a few hours, but nothing major so I dont need to refill it yet. But it doesnt leak at all when I drive it, and it doesnt always leak when parked either! Thats why Im not sure what it is. If it leaked all the time I wouldve guess and pon hole or something, or maybe the radiator, but it only leaks sometimes.
Can somebody help explain what this is? Its a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo 4.7 V8. If its relevant its also 24/7 4x4

2024.04.25 08:17 ThatKidWithThatFro [Online][Other][Fridays 8pm EST] Fallout Vaults and Deathclaws

Intro: I am currently looking for a few extra players for my attempt at running Fallout Vaults and Deathclaws. My players (3) and I we are quite new to the system as well so it will be a learning experience. We originally are formed around DND and may use comparisons to such in the learning curve. Personally those not so experienced in the system are preferred as it has been brought up by my current players that an expert correcting them would be not that pleasing. If you don't know what Fallout is the source books highly recommend those who play or run their system to have to be at least somewhat familiar, otherwise things get really confusing.
How I run things: The sessions will be run every Friday from 8pm EST to 12am EST on Roll20 and a private Discord server so accounts in both would be preferable. The game will be run in the Fallout universe with the Florida setting, though I may warn that I am only adept at being a game master with only about a year under my belt as well as not being a master in Fallout knowledge, so if you have a burning passion for Fallout lore or quality game masters I highly note that my play-style prefers to keep things chill. I warn that I have unfortunately had my hands full doing research on the setting and system before writing anything so the campaign's foundations have not been laid down yet at the time of making this post.
The Source: The book is free and online along with discord servers of support if you search "Fallout Vaults and Deathclaws" I will warn that it took me around a week to manage to understand a majority of the rules, but is worth it should you love the concept of a post-apocalyptic radioactive sci-fi setting.
Warnings: With most sci-fi themes, like those about a nuclear holocaust, it of course includes themes of death, gore, forceful body modification and transformation, missing limbs, zombie-like creatures, and explosions to name a few off the top of my head. I will note that player comfort is one of my main priorities so some aspects of character creation may be off the table in order to keep everyone comfortable. Should there be major fears that would be a deal breaker for any of you I'll be sure to keep them into note for how I run things for example should you have severe trypophobia I wouldn't have you fighting any bee-hive monsters anytime soon.
Cool Stuff: But on the plus side the book covers a variety of really cool topics where in my own words of a rush of several chapters it covers: Crafting along with cooking & poisoning, and dismantling. Implants, Cybernetics, creating your own robot or modifying your own robot body, Vehicles from golf cart to jeeps to a capital T Tank, to vertibirds in the sky which you can do a barrel roll as there's stunts you can do in vehicles.
Bonus: No I haven't seen the show, No you cannot sleep with the deathclaw and or play Fisto- gotta be mature in playing, Yes I love playing New Vegas, Yes I am sleep deprived at the creation of this post so I will provide better clarity should anyone point out I'm missing something, No/Yes we are playing as close to the base rules as possible.
If you are interested please comment below your interest and your experience in Tabletop RPGs, and as well as your general knowledge on Fallout and anything you believe would be relevant. I'll try to reach out for personal interviews sometime mid-afternoon EST as that's when I am available for contact.
Edit: This is closed for interviewing current applicants from multiple sources, should somehow no one make the cut or there are sudden shifts in player schedules this may open back up but future applicants are less likely to be considered at this time.

2024.04.24 21:02 Dabomb6521 A little bit of my story and a question of what would you do?

I (28 yrs old) and my wife (28 yrs old) have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I kinda stupidly got into a few years (September 2022ish) ago in the height of used car prices. My thinking at the time was I got $19k trade in for a Buick that I bought for $19.5k about 2.5-3 years earlier. I still had about 17k on the loan, and it was having some costly repairs coming up. Where I went wrong is I bought the Jeep for $35k on a 84-month loan, I should have gone for an under 20k car and done a much shorter loan or kept the one I had and fixed the repairs. I got a little flustered with having the jeep because I am off road pretty frequently during the summer, I live in northern Utah so winters can be bad, and it has enough space to hold me, my wife, my daughter, and my soon to be daughter. Most of all I was expecting my income to go up, so I justified being able to take on a more expensive car.
I have been fairly good with my money over my working lifetime and usually faired on the side of conservative with my finances, looking back now I made some boarder line decisions that definitely affected me but overall I was doing ok, until late in the year 2022 where I got a much higher paying job than I ever had, and lifestyle inflated myself pretty bad. I went from making about $42k gross to $60k and then a few months later to $80k. I got into about 5k of credit card debt early 2023 (from a vacation I didn't have the money for and my wife losing her job, all within the first 2 months) and the Jeep debt from 2022. As soon as I got hit with the credit card interest, I put a pause on our credit card and searched for ways to tackle the debt.
Over the last year I have gained a major passion with personal finance, and I've watched a lot of YouTube finance content. Things like The Money Guy, Caleb Hammer, Graham Stephen, Iced Coffee Hour, Ramsey Personalities. I started looking for a budgeting software that worked for what I wanted and decided on YNAB, the best app in my opinion. Over the last year I have built up my savings to cover all my deductibles, I have eliminated the CC debt and I have $28.5k left on my jeep loan. Most of all I learned my lesson on buying cars I can't afford. I have student loans for me and my wife, about $30k most of those are at a sub 4% rate or lower and I only pay the minimum payment for now and I have a mortgage with 138k left at a 3.4% rate which I also do minimum payment for. Some other key things would be that I have about $30k in retirement from past and current jobs, I always took the match at my jobs and my current employer puts 14.5% away for me no contribution required.
Now to the question, I am underwater on my Jeep. Like I said I owe $28.5k at a 4.4% rate. The Jeep is worth about $20k - $22k on the high end according to Kelly Blue Book and a quick classifieds look in my area. As of right now I can't really do more than the minimum payment because I am saving for some necessary house repairs, once those are taken care of, I can probably double down on my jeep payment. I have been trying to figure out options, but nothing appears to be better than just keep doing what I am doing. One of the other things I have thought of was sell the Jeep. I don't like this though because I would have to get a personal loan for the ~$6k difference. The interest rate for both the "new" cheaper car and personal loan combined would be way above what I have now. I would probably lose a lot of money in interest even if I were to pay one off fast. I would say I am on FOO step 3, even though my jeep isn't necessarily high interest debt for my age, it is a depreciating asset that I am under water on.
What ideas do any of you have? Even just a "here is what I would do advice" would be great. Heck I would even take some encouraging words, it's hard sticking to a budget and working towards financial freedom. I would have to credit The Money Guy show with the majority of what I have learned thus far, hopefully I can get a little bit more from this awesome community.
Thanks for reading!

2024.04.23 19:34 PigSlam My wife wants a Land Rover Defender 110

My wife has been driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon that we bought new. We have a kid now, and often finding ourselves wanting to have seating for more than 5. She's decided that she likes the newer Defenders, and found that the 110 can be had with a 3rd row. New, they're fairly pricey, but 2-3 year old lease returns seem to be more reasonably priced.
She really likes the size, style, etc. of the car, and she thinks her mind is set on it. The car will spend 99% of its time driving around the Central Valley of California, with occasional trips to the mountains, beach, LA, SF, Tahoe, etc., though we already have a Sprinter Van camper conversion that use mostly use for those sorts of things. In other words, we value the style, size, comfort above cost and reliability.
So far, she's been shopping mostly online, but saw a used example with 50k miles show up at our nearest dealership, so she went to take a look. The car she looked at was freshly returned, and hadn't even been cleaned yet, and had many check engine/error lights on the dash, so we'll pass on that particular example, but she was pleased to see that one not very well maintained still seemed nice inside.
I believe this model was first available as a 2020 model, so nobody can really say how long these hold up for longer than that. The model it replaced were rolling around with dinosaurs. FWIW, the consensus seems to be that Jeeps are terrible in terms of reliability, but we've kept ours rolling with only minor repairs that seemed very reasonable to us, so I guess my question is, relative to a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, how bad would a used Land Rover be to maintain in the long term?
TL;DR: I'm asking for details about what the realities of the "unreliable" reputation actually look like in real life. Does it mean spending 50% of the purchase price annually to keep it running 40% of the time? Does it mean one trip to the shop to stop a leaking valve cover gasket in 10 years? Will it require as many major drivetrain repairs as oil changes?

2024.04.23 17:37 c0sm0nautt Are the major American companies still considered less reliable?

I've always held Toyota, Honda and Mazda in my mind as the highest reliability tier of car makers. I've drove my first Accord for over a decade and am on my second Honda with no issues this far.
I'm considering going American for my second car.
Are the major American companies still considered less reliable? Or is this just old school thinking of past decades? I'm talking mostly about Ford, Chevy/GMC, Jeep.

2024.04.23 04:36 -_Wolfgang_- Should I trade in/sell my Jeep Patriot?

I have a 2014 Jeep Patriot Sport 2.4L 4x4 with 63,000 miles on it. It has been well taken care of and has given me no issues.
Im thinking of selling it now while it still have some value. My motivation for trading it in comes from the hearing that Jeep Patriots are not that reliable and prone to major electrical issues and I’ve just started a family and don’t want the headache of a major mechanical issue down the road. Additionally it doesn’t match my current lifestyle, but that’s more minor.
If you were in my shoes would you get rid of it or could I reasonably expect the car to work well given its history.
(I’d probably get a Japanese Sedan)
Edit: it’s also not one of those CVT transmissions so it’s not too bad.

2024.04.23 03:15 Sp1tefull Help find this please

Help find this please
I've already send at least $80 just on the first book :(
Here is the blub:
“Oh, baby,” someone moans. I reach the top of the stairs and more grunting and moaning sounds reach my ears. The sounds grow louder as I get closer to Daniel’s room. I reach out a shaking hand, and I turn the knob, pushing the door open. The sounds get exponentially louder, and my eyes widen at the crude sight in front of me. “Karley,” Daniel moans as my twin sister moans.
“I can’t believe you!” I scream, making both of their heads snap up to look at me. My hand subconsciously goes to my stomach, and I cover my mouth with my other hand. “You’re both dead to me!” I yell, running out of the room. Hurt fills me, my heart pounding, as I run down the stairs, grab my purse, and run to my jeep. I can hear my sister and my boyfriend- or should I say ex-boyfriend- running after me, but I hop in my car and drive off.
————————
Harley
Taking my glasses off, I rub my eyes before opening them again to see the two faint pink lines. Maybe… Maybe it’s a false positive. I grab the second test and find two pink lines again.
Pregnant- one word I never thought I’d use before marriage. My parents raised a “good girl” who always got good grades and perfect marks. They wanted me to be the perfect little daughter. It seemed to be their only goal in life other than raising me to be a puppet, which is one reason I became a nurse. I did what I wanted because I love helping people.
Now they’ll be beyond upset. Looking in the mirror, I sigh. My long blonde hair is up in a ponytail since I had thrown up this morning. I’m still in my pajamas, which are a tank top and a pair of cotton shorts. My blue eyes look a little hazy from being abruptly woken up, so I rub at them again.
Blinking, I push my glasses back up my nose and fix them. I grab my phone, dial Daniel’s number, and bite my lip as the phone rings. It rings a few times then goes to voicemail. “Is it so hard to answer your phone?” I mumble, sliding it back in my pocket.
He needs to know, though.
Quickly, I get up and walk over to my closet, grabbing a sweater and pulling it on. I shove the pregnancy test into my pocket and run out of the house. I jump into my jeep and peel out of my driveway, turning a fifteen-minute drive into a seven-minute drive.
When I pull up to Daniel’s house, I don’t see his car in the driveway, which is unusual because he should be home from work by now. Looking down at my phone, I find no missed calls or texts from Daniel. Again, I call him, but again, it goes to voicemail.
“Daniel, hey. I have something I need to tell you, and it’s really important, like majorly important, so please call me back,” I say before ending the message. With a disgruntled sigh, I put my Jeep in reverse and begin to back out of Daniel’s driveway.
Something in his bedroom window catches my attention, making me stop. Squinting, I stare at the second-story window and see a shadow pass by, and a second later, it passes again.
Since he is home, I put the car in park and climb out. I straighten out my clothes and run my fingers over the test in my pocket, making sure the pregnancy test is still there. I force my feet to move despite the nerves bubbling in my stomach spike to new heights.
Will he be happy? Does he even want kids?
We only talked about it once, when we talked about marriage, but he was undecided, and nothing ever came from that conversation. We didn’t really talk about it again, and now, I’m kicking myself.
I wouldn’t say that I’m in love with Daniel because he wasn’t exactly my top choice of a partner. My parents suggested we date because his parents and my parents are friends. When I turned twenty, four years ago, our parents set us up because we’d be a “suitable match.” He already has a job at my father’s Law Firm, and my parents love him. He is charming and handsome, but he doesn’t have much else going for him.
Nonetheless, I’d like him to be there when the baby is born.
To please my parents, I dated him. We fell into a comfortable relationship, but I have to admit that it’s kind of dull. We’ve been dating for four years. It’s the same things over and over: work, dinner, movie nights where he stays over, then repeat. Our relationship has gotten less intimate over the past few months, and I can’t help but think Daniel is tiring of me. Lately, he’s been busy with work.
When I get to Daniel’s front door, I pull out the house key that I have and slide it into the lock. My hands shake as I turn the key and push the door open. “Daniel?” When I get no response, I set my purse on the table by the door and shut the door behind me. I make my way over to the stairs to my right and start climbing them.
Glancing back, I see my sister and Daniel standing in the driveway, sheets and towels wrapped around them. Tears fill my eyes and I try to scrub them away, along with the anger and hurt rising in my chest. I push down on the gas pedal while wiping away more tears, and soon, blue lights fill my rearview mirror.
A sob climbs up my throat as I pull over and lay my head on the steering wheel. Today is just not my day.
I decide to sit there for a minute to make sure I’m okay to drive. I don’t want my emotions to overpower my driving, so I watch as the police officer drives away. With a sigh, I lay my forehead against the steering wheel and take a deep breath. I’m hurt and sad about the affair, but more than anything, I’m angry and disappointed; however, I should’ve seen this coming.
My sister is prettier, less geeky, and more sensual than I am. There’s also the fact that Daniel has pulled away and spends more time ‘at work’ than with me. I should’ve known he wasn’t at work.
Now that I think about it, I think Daniel’s always been more interested in my sister. When we’d be at my parent’s house for dinner, or a party, he’d hang around my sister more than me. I thought they were just friends since I was dating him, but no. I witnessed their ‘friendship’ today. I groan at the mental image that’s seared into my brain. I’ll never get that image out of my head.
What now?
Since Daniel doesn’t want me, I don’t think he’ll want the baby, and if he does, I won’t give him any say in this. He cheated on me with my sister. He won’t be seeing this baby even if he begs. No one needs someone like that in their lives.
My phone rings, bringing me out of my thoughts. When I pull it out, I see Daniel’s name flashing across the screen. I scoff at his audacity and answer the call, “What do you want?”
“Baby, please come back and let me explain,” Daniel begs, making me roll my eyes. Hurt tugs at my heartstrings, making my anger grow.
“Why should I? You have my sister to warm your bed now, so Daniel, don’t call me again. Don’t text. Don’t show up at my house,” I tell him, surprised at how stern my voice is. “I want nothing else to do with you. Have a good life,” I growl, hanging up before he can reply.
Throwing my phone in the passenger seat, I shift my Jeep into drive and head home. I can do this. I don’t need him.
It’s been two weeks since I found Daniel with Karley together, and he didn’t follow my orders to leave me alone. I still get calls from him, and he keeps sending gifts and tulips, which I am allergic to as he knows, as an apology. It doesn’t matter how many gifts, or flowers, he gives me, though. I’m not getting back with him.
My sister also called, yelling at me for causing Daniel to break off their affair. She ranted like a crazy person, so I hung up on her. If anyone should be mad, it’s me. She was sleeping with MY boyfriend.
Shaking my head, I stand from my recurring spot beside the toilet. I look in the mirror and pull my hair up into a messy bun. Picking my glasses up, I slide them on my face and look at myself. My face is pale from the morning sickness, but other than that, I look about the same.
Today is my five-week mark, so I have an appointment with my OBGYN at ten.
“Your blood work looks good, as do your vitals, and your growth looks good. I’ll send you with a suggestion of some prenatal vitamins to take. Make sure you stick to a healthy diet and avoid the foods I’ll list for you. You can make your next appointment with Sally at the front desk when you leave. If you have any problems or questions, you can email me or call the number on the card Sally will give you when you make your next appointment,” she tells me.
“Thank you, Dr. Anya,” I tell her. She smiles and nods, motioning to the door.
I might not have planned to get pregnant, but I’m going to give this baby the love I don’t get from my own parents.
When I enter my house, I kick my shoes off at the front door and head upstairs. I reach my room and slowly peel my clothes off, walking straight to my bathroom. I grab a book on my way and turn the bath water.
As the water runs, I plug my phone into the speakers, hitting shuffle. Now that music is playing and the tub is full, I turn the water off and slide in, holding the book up to where it won’t get wet. Laying back, I put the book to the side and lay my hands on my stomach. I’ve been around pregnant women before in the hospital, but this is different.
This is my child. My baby.
I’m not in a good mood today, so I decide to buy some sweets. On the way back from the supermarket, my phone rang. Without looking at the caller ID, I pick it up and answer, putting it up to my ear. “Hello?” I answer.
“Babe, you finally answered,” Daniel’s voice comes through the phone. “Are you ready to come back to me?” He asks when I don’t reply. I continue driving, keeping my eyes on the road.
“I don’t want to speak to you, Daniel. You need to leave me alone,” I tell him and hang up the phone, not giving him a chance to reply. Setting my phone in the cup holder, I sigh. Didn’t he get that I don’t want to talk to him from the constant ignoring of his calls? Again, I sigh and scan the road.
When I look ahead on the right side of the road, something catches my eye. The closer I get, the slower I go. “Oh, my gosh,” I gasp and pull over. Scrambling out of my jeep, I run over to the man. “Hey! Hey, are you okay?” I shriek, falling to my knees. The man is lying on this stomach, shirtless and bleeding.
With all my strength, I push the man onto his back. “Hey, sir, please wake up,” I beg, trying to shake him awake, but he doesn’t budge. What is this man made of? Stone? I continue to attempt to pull him, but nothing happens. I push my glasses up my nose and try to drag the man again.
After a minute, I take a break because I don’t want to hurt the baby. I pull again, and a groan erupts from the man. Immediately, I look down at him as he groans again.
“What cha doin’, Lass?” The man asks, his accent thickening his words. Relief fills me at his waking.
“Oh, my gosh, you’re alive!” I exclaim. “Thank God,” I squeak, putting my hand over my heart.
The man blinks twice and groans again. “Lass, no’ so loud,” he mumbles. My hand flies to my mouth, and I release another squeaking sound. I move my hands to talk and glance at my surroundings.
“Um, I was just… uh, you’re on the side of the road, so I was going to take you to the hospital,” I stumble over my words, sputtering from my shot nerves. “Can you stand?” I ask, knowing that I won’t be able to get him up on my own. The man lies on the ground for a second before nodding stiffly.
“I can try.” I step back, giving him room, and he struggles to turn over. A grimace graces his face as he tries to get up, but he slumps to the ground with a moan of pain.
Since he’s on the ground again, I hold out my hand and try to help him up. I think it should be okay as long as I don’t pull his whole weight up. “Come on, you can lean on me,” I tell him, looking down at him with worry.
Why is he like this?
Who did this to him?
Is he a criminal?
Did he get kidnapped and beaten?
What happened?
I really want to ask, but I think it should wait.
“I’m taking you to the hospital where I work to get you looked at,” I tell him as we stagger towards my jeep. The man groans, making me look up.
“No hospital,” he commands, his voice raspy and pained. What he’s asking goes against everything I learned as a nurse, but instead of doing what I should, I nod.
Stopping beside the car, I pull open the passenger door and lean the seat back. I turn the man towards the door and nudge him in the direction. “Climb in.” He looks down at me, and I point, “Use the handle to pull yourself up.”
I wait as he follows my instructions. He pulls himself up while I push on his back, hoping he doesn’t fall backward and crush me. Once he’s seated, I make sure he isn’t in the doorway before closing it. Swiftly, I move around to the driver’s side and get in.
Before I pull away, I glance at the man and move a stray piece of my bangs out of my face. “Okay, since you said no hospital, I guess I will take you to my house,” I say, making him look at me. I stare at him for a second, before looking away.
“Okay, Lass,” he says, his strong accent making my heart patter. If I was standing, I’m sure I would have fallen over.
I watch as the man’s eyes fall closed. I silently drive to my house, letting the man sleep. He looks beaten to hell, like someone took a truck and ran him over… multiple times. Even with the bruises, dirt, and blood, I can see he’s beautiful.
When he looked at me with those striking blue-green eyes, I felt like I’d melt. Who would do something like this?
Not long after I start driving, I pull up to my house. I park as close to my front door as I can get and scramble to the passenger side door. Now, I just need to wake him. I shake his shoulder, hoping to wake him without hurting him, but he doesn’t wake. I shake him a second and third time, but still, he doesn’t wake.
“Hello? Wake up. Please, please wake up,” I call out, shaking him again. He groans and shifts in his seat but doesn’t wake up. “Come on, mister, I need your help,” I plead. As soon as I say that, the man’s eyes snap open, and he looks around.
A second later, his eyes fall on me, and he looks me over. “What happened? Are you okay?” He asks, his voice hoarse. I smile at his concern. He’s the one that’s injured; why is he concerned about me?
Smiling at him, I hold my hand out. “I need your help because I can’t carry you. I need to take you inside to check your injuries,” I say. After staring at me for a second, he nods and pushes himself to his feet. The whole time he’s moving, he’s grimacing or cringing or groaning. He must be in a lot of pain because he’s not moving very much, shuffling and dragging his feet.
Slowly, I lead the man up to my porch and inside. After closing the front door, I lead the man over to my living room and help him lean on the wall.
“Stay here” I tell him.
“I cannae go anywhere, Lass.”
“Okay, I have the kit, so I will fix you up now,” I announce, walking into the room. The man’s eyes open and they find me. His eyes follow my every movement, watching as I walk over and kneel beside the couch.
“I’m a nurse, so I promise I know what I’m doing. I think it would’ve been better to go to the hospital, but I understand that you didn’t want to- and I know that you don’t know me, but you don’t have to worry about me doing anything to hurt you, because if I wanted to hurt people, I wouldn’t have chosen to be a nurse, right? Ha. Well, I-”
His hand comes up, covering my mouth and stopping my ramble. The man peers at me, his eyes crinkling with amusement. He removes his hand. Heat travels up my neck and into my cheeks as I blurt out, “Sorry, I tend to ramble when I get nervous.” Nervous laughter bubbles out of me.
Deciding to stay quiet, I grab a wash rag and pour water on it. I wipe at the cuts on his body. Out of habit, my lip finds its way between my teeth as I work.
“I make you nervous, Lass?” I open my mouth a few times, not knowing what to say. I probably look like a fish, opening and closing my mouth so much. Stopping, I take a deep breath and answer.
“Well, I did find you shirtless, bleeding, and beat up on the side of the road,” I answer truthfully.
Looking down at him, I see a determined expression on his face. “You dinna have to be nervous about me, Lass,” he speaks up, taking my hand in his. I look down at our hands and then up at him again.
“Why do you keep calling me that?” I question, feeling my forehead crease at the confusion. Pulling my hand away, I put the rag down. Next, I pull out a needle and stitching thread.
While I work, I feel the man’s eyes on me. “You mean Lass?” He asks, and I nod. He chuckles, then groans in pain. Once he settles, he speaks again, “I dinna know your name.” I nod, and then my eyes widen.
“Oh, my gosh! I totally forgot,” I shriek. He cringes. “My name is Harley Reed. I should’ve introduced myself earlier,” I tell him, babbling.
The man nods and holds out his hand. “I’m Axel,” he introduces. I smile and put my hand in his, letting his large one engulf my much smaller one. I bite my lip and look at him for a second before speaking up. “I like your accent. Is that Irish?” I ask, thinking. “No, Scottish?”
Axel laughs and nods. “Aye. Scottish,” he answers. My eyes widen, and so does my smile. I’ve never met a Scottish person before.
Does that sound lame?
Get back on track, Harley.
“Cool. You need some stitches in this larger gash, along with the one on your arm, but the others I can just patch up,” I inform him, looking over the wounds I cleaned.
Axel nods, and I glance at the wounds again. “Do you want some Aspirin or Advil or something for the pain?” I ask, concern filling me. I’m about to stitch him up, and I don’t want to cause him more pain. He shakes his head, and I know he wants me to go ahead.
Jumping up, I run to the kitchen and gather ice into a rag, then rush back into the living room and kneel beside Axel. “This is going to be cold,” I warn him. I gently place the pack on his face.
Once I know he’s got it, I move down to the cuts on his torso and body. As I stitch Axel up, I notice him wincing and gritting his teeth. His hands curl into fists, and he growls out in pain.
“I’m sorry,” I whisper, continuing to stitch him up. I wish he’d taken the pain medicine. For some reason, seeing him in this much pain differs from seeing my other patients in pain. I feel it more.
When I glance at him, he’s already staring at me. Heat climbs up and settles on my cheeks, so I look away. Why am I acting like a schoolgirl?
“Sapphire,” his voice catches my attention.
Looking up, I give him a questioning look. “What?” He motions with his hand for me to keep going, so I do, but I listen as he speaks.
“Your eyes. They look like Sapphires,” he tells me. I glance at him again. I’ve never been good at taking compliments, especially from gorgeous men. Biting my lip, I continue looking down at his cuts.
“Um, thank you.”
To be honest, I like him very much and I also like his praise. I think I'll take good care of him.

2024.04.22 00:13 RazzmatazzAccurate61 First time renter on turo

Hi all! My mom and I are considering using Turo to rent our vehicles. I have a ford escape 2020 SE used that I just purchased about a month ago ( 31k miles ) She has a Jeep compass 2022 50k miles ( she purchased brand new but she’s a major driver ). We wanted to bring in extra cash because we travel a lot now and our cars just sit idle when we aren’t in town. I was wondering if anyone can give me tips for the both of us that we can go over before starting on turo? If it helps we are located in Baltimore, MD.
Lastly I was considering adding dash cameras to my vehicle if I’m going to rent it out, but not sure if this is a good idea? Also I have full coverage insurance on my vehicle but I seen mixed reviews about people letting their insurance company know that they’ll be renting their car out whether or not I should let them know?
I’ve been doing extensive research within this group, but any tips that you’ve learned along the way that can help I’d great appreciate it!

2024.04.21 04:03 Roxihavok7 Should I buy a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I'm no closer to making a decision about a vehicle than I was a month ago.
A family friend is selling their grandpa's 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee for $1500 CAD. 200k km, had a tune up, no known issues, needs a new battery and new tires before winter. So it might be about $3k by fall this year if no major issues.
I'm thinking I could drive this one for a year, or longer if no major issues come up and use this time to save up more and decide on a vehicle I actually want to use my money on instead of settling on something now because I need a vehicle.
They're good people and I can't see them trying to fuck with me if there was major concerns with the vehicle.

2024.04.20 23:45 TheLastCoagulant The West could easily equip Ukraine to achieve a full victory reclaiming pre-2014 borders at very little cost.

We just need to send actually meaningful numbers of weapons and vehicles.
If it were up to me the West would send as soon as humanly possible:
Videos show that in real life some Ukrainian infantrymen still use AK-47s. In America we have 120 civilian owned firearms per 100 people. We can definitely gift each one of them an AR-15 platform rifle with an ACOG scope, suppressor, and underbarrel grip. 500,000 of those $3,000 rifles are only worth $1.5 billion. How has this not already happened?
Standard American helmets, visors, ceramic plate vests, night vision goggles, boots, etc. Winter gear set as well. Just the videos coming out of all Ukrainian soldiers being decked out like this would boost Ukrainian/western morale and degrade Russian morale once it’s undeniable.
A brand new American M2A4 Bradley Fighting Vehicle costs $4.35 million. 2,000 of them is only $8.7 billion. What a tiny cost for such a massive boost. This alone would likely guarantee Ukraine’s victory. That’s not even 4 days of the US military budget. In real life the U.S. has only given 190 Bradleys.
Why so many tanks? They’ll have lots of functional tanks in reserve so that tanks can be used aggressively. They’ll grow into the large number of tanks as they build more refueling/repair infrastructure and get more tank ammo and as more trained Ukrainian crews come back from America/Europe. The many tanks that survive the war will bolster Ukraine’s post-war defense. With this quantity of hardware they just can’t lose.
1,000 main battle tanks is nothing for us in the West but everything for Ukraine. 10,300 M1 Abrams tanks and 3,600 Leopard 2 tanks have been built. In real life the US only given 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine and Germany has only given 14 Leopard 2 tanks. What a joke. We’re sitting on massive stockpiles and giving Ukraine next to nothing.
239 have been built and in 2021 we sold 29 of them to Australia. Australia does not need these giant 40 feet (12 meter) long mine-clearing vehicles. Send them all to Ukraine. Ukraine has very few of them.
But with a focus on using cheaper anti-drone anti air systems weapons against cheap drones and using Patriots on more expensive targets.
Here’s what would happen next:

Biden celebrates Tennessee Volkswagen plant’s vote to join UAW
“Congratulations to the workers at Volkswagen in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on their historic vote for union representation with the United Auto Workers,” Biden said Friday in a statement.
The accolades come after factory workers at the Chattanooga, Tenn., Volkswagen plant voted Friday evening to join the UAW, in a decision that could signal even further momentum in organized labor following a year of high-profile strikes and major contractual wins for workers.
“I was proud to stand alongside auto workers in their successful fight for record contracts, and I am proud to stand with auto workers now as they successfully organize at Volkswagen,” the White House statement said.
Biden became the first sitting president in U.S. history to join the picket line on behalf of UAW workers during a UAW strike last year involving the “Big Three” Detroit automakers — Ford, General Motors (GM) and Jeep-maker Stellantis.
Biden, who received the UAW’s endorsement for his reelection bid in January, has also billed himself as the “most pro-union president in American history.”
The vote’s results were announced just two days after governors for six Southern states, including Tennessee, came out against the union vote in a letter. The push posed a threat to “jobs” and “values,” the governors of Tennessee, Texas, South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama argued.
